Pausing To Celebrate a Milestone

I t 's been a year since our new name and color reveal! I am so proud of our staff and participants for adapting to this major change as adeptly as they did. I absolutely adore our logo and the meaning it symbolizes. The “heart” is an image that shows unity amongst all people. It simply connects us all to one another. It symbolizes how we are all more alike than we are different. And as we move forward updating our facilities, I smile about the colors we chose. I have been asked why purple? Simply put, it's a fierce and bold color depicting a rich and powerful history very simi lar to our organization. We have served people for over sixty two years but this month we will just simply pause, enjoy and celebrate our one year anniversary as Ascend Services!

It has been a year since we rebranded and changed the name of our organization. Since then we have made many changes and added services! These opportunit ies open doors to self-realization, human relationships and community connections. Our Mobile Work Crews are designed to provide community based work opportunities for small groups of participants along with crew leaders at a company's location. CREATE: Community based prevocational service designed to empower participants to make an informed decision, through community experiences, about the pursuit of integrated employment. LINKED: Community based day service that offers ways to be involved with new opportunities by providing the knowledge and education needed to discover one's self. We believe choices should be very individualized and meaningful to each person served. Together, we discover individual's interests and abilities, explore options for employment and other community experiences, and make the connections that lead to opportunities.

Fundraising is Going Strong!

Building Facelift andEnhanced Security

Fundraising is important! It may seem obvious why it is important: to raise funds for needed items, services and programs. Yet, raising funds has so many other benefits besides the obvious. It is a way to build awareness, promote our mission and build connections within our community.

What's new to Ascend’s fundraising efforts this year? We have expanded our 5K Run, Walk & Roll and will now include a 0.0 fun run, kids run, family yoga, and a scavenger hunt through the zoo. Don't miss out on this fun day! We hired a Fund Development Coordinator to assist with grant writing and event planning. Please join me in welcoming Kelsey Lueptow! We began a legacy brick program in which anyone can purchase a brick and have their name engraved. Bricks will provide a foundation for a small community sitting area in the front of our main building. And we now accept major credit cards to make donating and fundraisers much easier!

Our main facility is getting a facelift thanks to Lee's Color Studio! We have gone from the dated cream and dark green to a cool soft grey. Purple awnings are coming. We look forward to getting our new sign put up on the building soon! We have also upgraded our building security by installing security cameras around the building.

Ascend Services Announces Multi-Purpose Room Rental Available

A Farewell Letter from a Colleague and Friend

Ascend Services, Inc, is pleased to announce that beginning June 1, 2019 our Multi-Purpose room wil l be available for rent to the public. Ascend offers a beautiful space that can be rented for private and public events, corporate meetings, seminars, and presentations. Non-profits can reserve the room at no cost.

I started here in February 2016 as a support leader. In October of 2016 I became a case manager and the scheduler for our support leaders. Throughout my years here I have worn many hats and have done many different jobs. I consider myself blessed to have been able to work with so many AMAZING individuals. I have learned so much about life, love, friendships and true happiness while working here. Almost a year ago my husband and I bought a house which happened to be farther away from Ascend Services. Through this past year I have made the most difficult

decision, and that is to leave Ascend in order to work for a job closer to my home. I will take with me all of the lessons I have learned here. These lessons include: Smiling everyday no matter what, loving unconditionally, forgiveness, believing in yourself and courage. I truly believe that each and every individual who works with or for Ascend Services is better because of these important lessons. Thank you for allowing me to learn these lessons along with you, and I hope the best for each and every one of you in your future.

Violence... in the Workplace!

Almost two million workers report b e i n g t h e

v i c t i m s o f v i o l e n c e every year-

and many cases go unreported.

Spotting warning signs before a violent incident happens is key. These can include:Ÿ hypersensitivity to criticismŸ hostility toward co-workersŸ unexplained changes in behaviorŸ focus on a recent violent incident

or current eventŸ o u t b u r s t s o f a n g e r , a n d

obsession over a grievance with a

supervisor or co-worker.If you think an employee is

exhibiting these warning signs, speak with a supervisor. Every workplace should have a policy for reporting threats. Know those procedures before you think you will need them and always report concerns, whether a threat seems imminent or you’re just getting an uneasy feeling.

Do NOT confront the employee on your own. Leave it to the professionals who know what to do.
