Pupil Achievements
Events
There have been quite a number of excellent events on in the past week, including our School Choir performing quite brilliantly in the NMPAT Concert at the Spinney Hill Theatre last Fri-day. In a programme full of outstanding young musicians, our Choir totally held their own and I was very proud indeed watching them perform so wonderfully.
The Years 5 and 6 Production Club play, ‘Superheroes’, on Tuesday was also a fine perfor-mance, highly entertaining and a lot of fun throughout. Very well done to all those involved.
Then, last night was the Spratton Hall Athletics Meeting, where we welcomed five other schools to take part. Our boys’ team came 3rd and the girls’ team were 2nd, which meant that we won the overall trophy for the evening. Well done to all the athletes.
House Singing Competition
As I wrote in last week’s newsletter, we are gearing up for the big House Singing Competition this afternoon – always a highlight of the year. Don’t forget that you can watch the House Singing streamed live with the link sent to you by text and email this morning.
T20 Cricket
I do hope the 30 or so boys and girls going to the NatWest T20Blast Northamptonshire v Derbyshire Cricket game this evening at the County Ground have a great time – it should be a lot of fun for them.
Summer Uniform
Just a reminder that all children should be in summer uniform after half-term please.
Common Entrance
As of today, Year 8 have completed their lessons at Spratton and I hope will spend some quali-ty time over half-term consolidating, revising and ensuring they are fully ready for the Com-mon Entrance exams which begin on the Monday immediately after half-term. I wish them all the very best for the exams.
I do hope you and the children have a wonderful and restful half-term break. I look forward to seeing the children return a week on Monday for the second half of term which will proba-bly fly past even more quickly than this half of term!
Thank you
Superheroes were the theme of the Year 5 & 6 Drama Club
performance on Tuesday. Dashing around saving the day,
the four superheroes become disillusioned with their lives
and decide on a new challenge – teaching!

High Scorers Concert
In addition to last week’s newsletter, we have just heard that Rose and Jasmine Cassidy have also been invited to play the piano at this important event. Congratulations.
NMPAT Concert
Huge congratulations to our School Choir who really per-formed well last Friday evening. I was so proud of you all. You represented Spratton Hall beautifully! Thank you to all our supporters too! Also, well done to our pupils who took part in County Music Groups at other points during the weekend.

Theory exam
The theory exam for this term will take place on Saturday 18th June at 10am.
Mrs Elliott
Mrs Carole Elliott, Teaching Assistant in Pre-Prep, talks to three Year 8 pupils Riya Mehra, George Lewis and James McManus.
What is the most rewarding part of working in Pre-Prep? I really like being part of a team and Pre-Prep is a friendly, happy place to be. The staff are really kind and you get lovely smiles from the children on a Monday morning.
How has Spratton Hall changed over the 27 years that you have worked here? It has a lot more facilities like the Hunter Hall and the Pi-rate Ship. The people have changed too, so there have been lots of different faces including four Head Masters.
If you had a canoe, where would you go? I actually would like to get a kayak. If I had one, I would kayak round the Isle of Mull and the Isle of Iona. I really like the way the sea shimmers in the sunlight.
What plans have you got for your retirement? I am going to do a gardening course and am looking for-ward to spending time with my granddaughter. I may also have a glass of champagne in the garden.
Now for the ‘quickfire’ questions:
Favourite holiday destination? Isle of Mull
Favourite sport to play or watch? Rugby at the Saints
Favourite drink? Raspberry vodka
Favourite gadget? Kindle
Favourite meal? Seafood
Favourite day? Saturday
Favourite television show? Anything with Peter Kay in and nature programmes
Favourite film? Any of the Indiana Jones films, in fact, anything with Harrison Ford in it!
Favourite website? www.amazon.com
Finally, can you describe yourself in 3 words? Happy, cheerful, hardworking

Bird Cam
In the end, the Great Tit news was not as good as we
had originally hoped. Some did fledge at the weekend
but some, much smaller, chicks did not leave the nest.
This is a good demonstration of the principle of 'survival
of the fittest', whilst being sad to see.
Cancelled Clubs
Musical Aerobics Club and Years 5&6 Drama Club are
cancelled on Monday 6th June due to staff meetings.

Through the wonders of a creative curriculum, different areas of learning become interwo-
ven, acting as powerful vehicles for each other. Being responsive to the children’s thoughts
and ideas also means that fascinating learning pathways are explored in all sorts of exciting
directions. Following on from their Literacy work based on the story of ‘The Lighthouse
Keeper’s Lunch’, Year 1 decided to use their Science, Design and Technology skills (and im-
aginations!) to create new, delicious and healthy fillings for the Lighthouse Keeper’s sand-
wiches. After Mr Sharpe had helped to source all of the essential ingredients that the chil-
dren had requested, (although he did rule out oysters!) they set about spreading butter on
bread, layering on fillings and carefully rolling their wraps. With sandwiches oozing salmon,
spinach and crab, piled high with bacon, sausage and egg and even crammed full of cour-
gette, broccoli and seaweed, the children created a feast that was fit for a king, let alone a
lighthouse keeper! The proof of course was in the tasting – every single crumb being de-
voured and thoroughly enjoyed in a picnic lunch outside in the Rose Garden.
On Monday, Year 1 showcased their talents further by entertaining family and friends with a
selection of familiar tunes skilfully and enthusiastically performed on their ocarinas. It was
a foot tappingly magical performance and a complete joy to see the children’s confidence
and enjoyment shine through.
Monday also proved memorable for Year 2, as they ventured off to explore the abundance
of wildlife and the leafy ‘Tree Top Walks’ of Salcey Forest. Up to 15 metres above the
woodland floor in places and stretching through the canopy of trees, the children were able
to experience a magnificent and breath-taking bird’s eye view of the forest.
This afternoon sees the last of our ‘Story Time’ sessions for our new Reception children who
will be joining us in September. However, this week Year 2 enjoyed the first of a series of
activities designed to ease their transition into the Prep School. These included a ‘Story and
Discussion Session’ led by the Year 3 staff and being welcomed into a Prep School Assembly.
Finally, now that half-term is upon us, it provides a valuable opportunity to check the fit of
children’s trainers, ready for the much anticipated Pre-Prep Sports Day! Grandparents’ Day,
another equally exciting highlight of the Summer Term for which I have sent out a letter this
week, is also just around the corner. Have a restful week and I look forward to seeing the
children fully charged and ready to embrace the final half-term of the year.
