FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends, Families and Faculty of ISU,

I hope that you have all had some down time over the summer months – pursuing pastimes and enjoying

the company of friends and family.

It has been a great kick off to the 2019-2020 school year. I am delighted to welcome so many new fami-

lies to our community and to welcome back so many familiar, friendly faces.

Next week I will send arounяd a collection of new faculty autobiographical statements in the Medee. For

now, here are some updates about what lies ahead:

Co-curricular Activities

ISU’s co-curricular programme this year will run from 1515 until 1600 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fri-

days and from 1415 to 1500 on Wednesdays. This year they begin on Tuesday, September 17th

.

PTG ISU Community Fun Fair, September 14

I hope to see you all at the ISU Community Fun Fair on September 14. It is a great opportunity for mem-

bers of our community to meet in a social venue, where food and entertainment are provided for all. Our

Parent Teacher Group (PTG) will be providing more information about this.

Listening Conferences – Sep 10 afternoon / Sep 11 morning

ISU holds parent/teacher conferences (in Primary; parent/teacher/student conferences in Secondary) sever-

al times throughout the school year. However at the Listening Conferences on Sep 10/11, parents do all

the talking and teachers do all the listening.

You will be asked to come to the school on either the afternoon of September 10th

or the morning of Sep-

tember 11th

to meet your child’s teacher (homeroom teacher in Primary / advisory teacher in Secondary)

and to give that teacher any information about your child that you think it is important we know. You will

receive more information about these conferences in the coming days.

эхэлнэ.

9 сарын 14-нд Эцэг Эх, Багш нарын Зөвлөлөөс (PTG) зохион байгуулдаг уламжлалт Намрын өдөрлөг болно.

Илүү дэлгэрэнгүй мэдээллийг ЭЭБЗ-өөс та бүхэнд хүргүүлэх болно.

FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY

We are off to an excellent start. Thank you for getting your children here on time in the mornings. The

halls have been filled with laughter and smiles as students embraced each other after long breaks and wel-

comed our newcomers. The new schedule seems to be a hit with as students are enjoying the extended

periods and of course the shortened Wednesday :)

Please join us for Back To School Night on Wednesday August 28th! We have several new teachers this

year, and this is a great chance to meet the teachers, and learn about our subjects and course materi-

als. Teachers will be arranged in the north wing of the school and will be available to answer your ques-

tions, and show you their course overviews.

Week Without Walls (IDEALS) September 2-6!!

This is a reminder about our Week Without Walls which is scheduled for the first week of September. All

students will be off timetable exploring the regions of Mongolia and learning valuable life skills. This is an

integral part of our program where students use this learning opportunity as points of reference throughout

the school year. It is indeed a highlight for students that creates memories for a lifetime.

Week Without Walls (WWW) itineraries and packing lists have been shared for each trip (except Grade

12) in ManageBac. Please check parent messages in ManageBac for details of your son/daughters particu-

lar trip.

It is expected that all students attend these trips. If your child is not attending, parents must contact the sec-

[email protected] and provide reasons, along with a doctor’s note. Students who do not at-

tend, will need to report to school where alternative activities will be provided. These are considered at-

tendance days. If a student is not on WWW and does not report to school, he/she will be marked as ab-

sent.

As school year goes underway, you will have more chances to participate in many different activities and

we encourage you to attend these events. As you know, parents’ participation is one of the key factors of

your child’s school success.

FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY

Dear Primary Parents and Students, We’ve had a wonderful start to the school year. We welcomed over 40

new students, between PreK and Grade 5- we know that they will quickly become part of the ISU commu-

nity. Thank you for all your support and encouragement, as our students have settled into their classrooms.

The implementation of our new start time of 8:00am has been fairly smooth. We are sending students to

classes at 7:55am, to unpack bags, hang up coats etc. Their homeroom begins at 8:00am and this is a real-

ly important part of the day- this is the time to connect with their classmates, engage in activities to

strengthen their social/ emotional wellbeing and to build community.

Next Wednesday we invite you to our ‘Back to School Evening’. Last

year we changed the format and, apart from meeting your child’s

teacher, we added some workshop sessions. These were a great suc-

cess, and the feedback from parents was excellent. There will be 7

different sessions on offer- you will be able to choose to attend two of

them. Where possible we have made them appropriate for parents of

all grade levels.

The workshop list will be sent via Managebac and Storypark/

Seesaw. We will also post some hard copies around the school from

Monday of next week.

During the year we offer a variety of workshops but we’d love to hear

from you about what topics or issues you’d be interested in exploring.

We’re looking forward to a great year, partnering with you in support

of your child’s learning.
