(2) It need not be a mere current affairsmagazine but rather it can be a holisticsupport system for competitive Exampreparation with question banks, tips andtricks , concepts and practice exercises,general awareness, traditional GK andmore such similar features.

Hence, the result is this magazine whoseeditorial team is a blend of youth, energy,knowledge and experience. As explained earlier,I promise my readers two things:

Company) has lowered the country’s growthforecast for the current fiscal to 7.3%, from theearlier projection of 7.5 %.

SEBI Fines NSE Over Rs. 625 crore In Co-LocationScam Markets regulator SEBI directed National Stock

Exchange to pay more than Rs625 crore in thecase of misuse of its co-location facility. SEBIhas been probing alleged lapses in high-frequencytrading offered through NSE’s co-location facility.

The amount, if considered with simple interest,would come to little less than Rs1,000 crore. If itinvolves a compound interest, the fine couldamount to around Rs1,300 crore.

State Bank of India Links Interest Rates To RBI’sRepo Rate India’s largest bank State Bank of India has moved

to a new interest rate regime on large savingsaccount deposits as well as short-term loans.

Earlier, SBI had announced that it will link itsinterest rate on savings account with a balanceabove Rs1 lakh and short-term loans like overdraftand cash credit facility to Reserve Bank of India’srepo rate, effective 1 May 2019.

Netherlands Becomes The Third Largest ForeignDirect Investor In India The Netherlands has emerged as the third largest

foreign direct investor in India during 2017-18,with investments pegged at about $2.67 billionacross sectors.

The Netherlands was also the second largestdestination for foreign investment by Indiancompanies, after Singapore, with investmentsworth $12.8 billion in 2017.

RBI Enhances Housing-Loan Limits UnderPriority Sector Lending For RRBs, SFBs The Reserve Bank of India has decided to enhance

the housing loan limits for Regional Rural Banks(RRBs) and Small Finance Banks (SFBs) foreligibility under priority sector lending, in a bid togive them a level playing field with other ScheduledCommercial Banks.

Henceforth, housing loans given by RRBs andSFBs to individuals up to INR 35 lakh inmetropolitan centers (with population of 10 lakhand above) and INR 25 lakh in other centers.

Mastercard Announces $1 Billion Investment In

India Global card payments brand Mastercard has

announced its plan of investing $1 billion in Indiaoperations over the period of next 5 years. About$350 million of the total amount would be investedin setting up a local payments processing centeras per the Reserve Bank of India’s mandate tostore all payments data locally.

monetary penalty of Rs1 crore on Nainital Bankfor its failure to fully automate the non-performingasset (NPA) identification process, despite specificdirections issued in this regard.

RBI Releases ‘Vision 2021’ For Payment SystemsFor ‘Cash-Lite’ Society Reserve Bank of India has released a vision

document ‘Payment and Settlement Systems inIndia: Vision 2019 - 2021’, with its core theme of‘Empowering Exceptional E-payment Experience’for ensuring a safe, secure, convenient, quick andaffordable e-payment system.

The move comes as the apex bank expects thenumber of digital transactions to increase morethan four times to 8,707 crores in December 2021.

ADB To Provide USD750 Million Loan To IndiaFor Railway Track Electrification Multilateral funding agency Asian Development

Bank (ADB) has announced that it has signed anagreement to provide USD 750 million equivalentin Indian rupee long-term financing to electrifyrailway tracks in India.

It is the largest single non-sovereign loan evercommitted by ADB to Indian Railway FinanceCorporation (IRFC) to fund the railways trackelectrification project.

India’s Economy To Grow 7.5% By 2020: OECDReport As per the Organisation for Economic Co-

operation and Development’s (OECD) EconomicOutlook, India’s economic growth will regainstrength and approach 7.5% by 2020 buoyed byrural consumption and subdued inflation.

As per the report, Gross domestic product (GDP)growth in India is projected to strengthen to closeto 7.25% in FY19.

RBI Allows Modern Currency Chests To HikeService Charges The Reserve Bank of India has announced that it

will allow large modern currency chests toincrease the service charges on cash deposited bynon-chest bank branches from the existing rateof Rs5 per packet of 100 pieces to a higher ratesubject to a maximum of Rs8 per packet.

RBI releases draft norms on liquidity riskmanagement for NBFCs RBI stated that all non-deposit-taking non-banking

financial companies (NBFCs) with an asset sizeof Rs 5,000 crore and above, and all deposit-takingNBFCs irrespective of their asset size, have tomaintain a liquidity buffer in terms of a LiquidityCoverage Ratio (LCR).

In a draft on liquidity risk management frameworkfor NBFCs and core investment companies, these

measures will promote resilience of NBFCs topotential liquidity disruptions by ensuring they havesufficient High-Quality Liquid Asset (HQLA) tosurvive an acute liquidity stress scenario lastingfor 30 days. The banking regulator proposed thatit will implement LCR through a glide path from01st April 2020 to 01st April 2024.

Suvidha’, a product for GST-registered MSMEs.The product has been designed as part of thebank’s efforts to provide the best products to theMSME sector.

PV Bharathi, Managing Director and ChiefExecutive Officer of the Corporation bank,launched the product in Mangaluru recently.

RBI extends timings for RTGS from 4:30 pm to6:00 pm RBI has extended timings for customer

transactions in the Real Time Gross Settlement(RTGS) system to 6:00 pm from 4:30 pm. Thenew time window for RTGS will come into effectfrom 01st June 2019.

FICCI survey forecasts India’s GDP growth at7.1% for FY20 The country’s median GDP is forecast at 7.10

percent for Financial Year 2020 and 7.20 percentfor Financial Year 2021. The industry body FICCI’seconomic outlook survey stated that the minimumand maximum growth estimate stood at 6.80 per0cent and 7.3 percent for 2019-20.

The survey was conducted in May 2019 amongeconomists belonging to the industry, banking, andfinancial services sectors. Inflation is expected toremain moderate and the Wholesale Price Index(WPI) based inflation rate is projected at 3.1percent in 2019-20, While, the Consumer PriceIndex (CPI) based inflation has a median forecastof 4 percent for 2019-20.

STATE AFFAIRSKerala Becomes First Indian State To Tap IntoMasala Bond Market Kerala became the first state to tap into masala

bond market by listing the Kerala InfrastructureInvestment Fund Board (KIIFB)’s masala bondworth of USD 312 million (Rs 2,150 crore) inLondon Stock Exchange (LSE)’s InternationalSecurities Market (ISM).

It has a fixed interest rate of 9.723% per annum.

The bond issue builds on the Kerala government’sfocus to get multinational corporations to investin the state.

Meghalaya Government Approves Setting Up OfFarmers’ Commission The Meghalaya government has approved setting

up of a commission to look into the problem facedby farmers. The proposal was made by theAgriculture Department to set up the Farmers’

Commission in line with the resolution passed atthe ‘farmers’ parliament’.

The ‘farmers’ parliament’, first of its kind in thecountry, was organised in December 2018 and wasattended by scientists, bureaucrats, apart fromfarmers, to discuss issues related to the agrisituation in the state.

PS Golay was sworn in as Sikkim Chief Minister Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) president Prem

staked claim to form the government.Naveen Patnaik takes oath as Odisha CM for 5thterm Naveen Patnaik took oath as the Chief Minister of

Odisha for the fifth time after a decisive victory inthe state elections that were held along with nationalelections. The 72-year-old is the longest-servingchief minister of the coastal state.

Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal administeredthe oath of office and secrecy to Mr. Patnaik andhis twenty councils of ministers. The council ofministers comprises 11 cabinet and nine state rankministers.

NATIONAL NEWSIndia To Purchase 10 Kamov-31 Choppers FromRussia For INR 3,600 cr The defence ministry has approved the

procurement of 10 Kamov Ka-31 Airborne EarlyWarning and Control helicopters for the IndianNavy.

The cost of the deal would be around Rs 3,600crore and the 10 helicopters would be deployed onthe aircraft carriers and warships of the Navyincluding the INS Vikrant and Grigorovich-classfrigates.

Indian Navy launches fourth Scorpene classsubmarine The fourth of Indian Navy’s stealth Scorpene class

Submarines of Project 75 was launched today atthe Kanhoji Angre Wet Basin of Mazagon DockLimited at Mumbai in Maharashtra.

The submarine has been named ‘Vela’ after an earliersubmarine, which was the lead submarine, of theerstwhile Vela class, the second batch of the Foxtrotclass submarines acquired from erstwhile USSR.

The steel cutting for this submarine commencedin July 2009. The submarine has completed joining

of all its sections.India Re-Elected As Observer To ‘Arctic Council’ India was re-elected as Observer to the Arctic

Council, an intergovernmental forum. The decisionwas taken during the 11th Arctic Council ministerialmeeting at Rovaniemi, Finland.

The Council also appointed the InternationalMaritime Organisation (IMO) as a new Observer.India successfully got the Observer status in 2013during the Kiruna Ministerial meeting held inSweden.

1st Apache Helicopter Formally Handed Over To IAF First AH-64E (I) - Apache Guardian helicopter was

formally handed over to the Indian Air Force atBoeing production facility in Arizona, USA.

IAF had signed a contract with US Governmentand M/s Boeing Ltd in Sep 2015 for 22 Apachehelicopters. The first batch of these helicopters isscheduled to be shipped to India by July 2019.

Indian Navy Successfully Test-Fires MRSAMMissile The Indian Navy has successfully test-fired a

Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM),achieving a significant milestone to enhance its anti-air warfare capability.

The test-firing of the missile was undertaken onthe western seaboard by Indian naval ships Kochiand Chennai.

Indian Coast Guard Ship VigrahaDecommissioned The Indian Coast Guard ship (ICGS) Vigraha was

decommissioned at Visakhapatnam, AndhraPradesh. It is a frontline offshore patrol vessel(OPV).

It was commissioned into service on April 12,1990. It has played an instrumental role inprotecting the east coast of India for 29 years ofservice from 1990 to 2019.

GSI Report: Arunachal Has Highest 35% ofIndia’s Graphite Deposits The Geological Survey of India (GSI) in its report

revealed that about 35 % of India’s total Graphitereserves are found in Arunachal Pradesh. This isthe highest found in the country.

Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX)-19 has commenced

ISRO Successfully Launched Earth ObservationSatellite ‘RISAT-2B’ Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has

successfully launched the ‘RISAT-2B’ Satellitefrom the Sriharikota’s, Satish Dhawan SpaceCentre, SHAR.

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C46)lifted-off from the First Launch Pad and injectedRISAT-2B into an orbit of 556 km, about 15 minutesand 25 seconds after lift-off.

The RISAT-2B is a radar imaging earth observationsatellite, weighing about 615 kg. The satellite isintended to provide services in the field ofagriculture, forestry and disaster management.

The all-weather, radar imaging satellite has thecapability to observe and image the earth from about500 kms.

Tech Mahindra Signs Rs300 crore DefenceContract With Indian Navy Tech Mahindra announced its biggest defence order

worth over Rs 300 crore with the Indian Navy. Aspart of the ‘Armed Forces Secure Access Card’(AFSAC) Project, Tech Mahindra will implementRFID (Radio Frequency Identification) basedAccess Control System across all naval bases andships.

The new AFSAC Card will replace the existingpaper-based Identity Card for all Navy personnelincluding dependents and ex-servicemen.

Kids Right Index 2019: India Ranks 117, IcelandTops India stands in a lowly 117th position out of 181

countries in the KidsRight Index, the annual globalindex which ranks how countries adhere to andare equipped to improve child rights. Icelandsecured the top position in the index followed byPortugal.

Countries are judged on five indicators: right tolife, right to education, right to health, right toprotection and enabling environment for childrights.

DRDO test fires guided bomb from Sukhoicombat Jet Defence Research and Development Organisation

(DRDO) has successfully test-fired anindigenously-developed 500 kg class guided bombfrom a Sukhoi combat jet at Pokhran in Rajasthan.

The test firing of the guided bomb came two daysafter the Indian Air Force successfully test firedthe aerial version of the supersonic BrahMos cruisemissile from a Sukhoi jet at the Andaman andNicobar Islands. The 2.5-tonne air-to-surface

missile has a range of around 300 km, and it willsignificantly enhance the IAF’s combat capability.

US removes India, Switzerland from its currencymonitoring list The Trump administration removed India from its

currency monitoring list of major trading partners,citing certain developments and steps being takenby New Delhi addressing some of its majorconcerns. Switzerland is the other nation that hasbeen removed from the list. However, the listincludes China, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Italy,Ireland, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam amongothers.

Military tribunal allows Karambir Singh to takecharge as new Navy Chief The Armed Forces Tribunal cleared the way for

Vice Admiral Karambir Singh to become the nextNavy Chief, while it deferred for four weeks thematter of Vice Admiral Bimal Verma which seeksto quash Singh’s appointment.

Karambir Singh, who is the Commander-in-Chiefof the Eastern Naval Command, will take over asthe Navy Chief on 31st May 2019.

RBI sets up committee on corporate loans RBI has constituted a six-member committee on

the Development of Secondary Market forCorporate Loans to come up with recommendationsto increase the efficiencies of the debt market andaid in the resolution of stressed assets.

The committee, headed by TN Manoharan,Chairman, Canara Bank, will makerecommendations on required policy/regulatoryinterventions for facilitating the development of thesecondary market in corporate loans, including loantransaction platform for stressed assets.

was sworn in as Prime Minister for the secondconsecutive term. President Ram Nath Kovindadministered the oath of Office and Secrecy tohim and a team of 57 ministers at a glitteringceremony on the forecourts of the RashtrapatiBhawan, New Delhi.

NASA unveils schedule for ‘Artemis’ 2024 Moonmission NASA unveiled the calendar for the “Artemis”

program that will return astronauts to the Moonfor the first time in half a century, including eightscheduled launches and a mini-station in lunar orbitby 2024. The original lunar missions were namedfor Apollo – Artemis was his twin sister in Greekmythology, and the goddess of hunting, wilderness,and the Moon.

Administrator Jim Bridenstine confirmed thatArtemis 1 will be an uncrewed mission around theMoon planned for 2020. Scott Morrison sworn in as Australia’s PM Scott Morrison has been sworn in as Australia’s

Prime Minister, 11 days after retaining the positionin the country’s general election. Along withDeputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack,Morrison was sworn in by Queen Elizabeth’sofficial representative in Australia, Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove, in the capital,Canberra.

A limit of your Kindness

Recently Steve had a car accident. So he put his car in the garage to carry out the repair work. Since hehad to go to the job daily, he decided that until the car is ready, he will travel by the metro train. One day,he noticed a homeless guy at the train station at night. He felt pity for him, so he gave him some changefrom his pocket.The homeless guy thanked him for it. Next day again, he noticed the homeless guy at the same place. Thistime Steve though to get him something to eat, so he went outside the station and brought him a meal. Thehomeless guy thanked him for his kindness. But Steve got curious and asked him, "How did you get to thispoint?"The homeless guy looked up at him and with a smile, he said, "By Showing Love." Steve didn't understandit, so he asked him, "What do you mean by that?" The homeless guy replied that "Throughout my wholelife, I made sure that everyone was happy. No matter what was going right or wrong in my life, I alwayshelped everyone."Steve asked him, "Do you regret it?" To which the homeless man replied, "No, It just hurts my soul that thevery people I gave the shirt off my back to wouldn't give me a sleeve of that same shirt when I was inneed. Son, It is better to build your own house and invite someone in for shelter than to hand them yourbricks while you are building yours. Because one day you will turn around and look at the spot where youhad planned to build your house. It will be an empty lot. Then you are the one looking for bricks."Steve understood what the homeless guy meant and thanked him for the good advice.Moral: Helping others is not a bad thing at all. But Sometimes, while we are helping others, we forget ourown problems and needs. One must remember that sometimes sharing is better than giving away.
