“This Institution is an

Equal Opportunity

provider”

Here We Go WP-B! Another Year!

Ready or not, here we go! The first days of school are again upon us!

It seems like the summer months go by very quickly each year I see

many students throughout the summer involved in various activities,

whether it is swimming at the pool or playing ball at the ball park.

What a joy to see our West Point –Beemer students active outside of

school!

The start of this school year brings changes to West Point-Beemer.

We have some new faces in the district along with a “new normal”.

The three W’s of COVID are important to remember as we begin this

journey during these uncertain times: wash hands often, wait six feet

apart, and wear face masks by honoring these simple steps, our

efforts together can have the best possibility of having a successful

school year.

Enjoy the remaining days of Summer Break, and we will see you

soon!

Go Cadets!

Nurse’s Station

Another school year is almost here! Here are some reminders from the health office:

Back to School Health Checklist

Yearly physical exam, eye exam, and dental checkup – All students going into Kindergarten and 7th grade are required to have a physical exam prior to starting school.

Immunizations up to date? – Check with your health care provider to make sure you are properly immunized, especially children entering Kindergarten and rising 7th graders.

Care Plans – All students with conditions such as Asthma, Severe Allergies, Diabetes, and Seizures are required to complete a new care plan each school year. These forms are available through the health office.

Medication – If your student requires medication during the school day, whether it be scheduled or as needed, please complete a Medication Administration form each school year. No medication may be administered to your child without this form. Also, any medication must be brought to the school in its original container for distribution to your student.

Create a daily schedule for: waking up, eating breakfast, arriving to school on time, doing homework, enjoying free time, having dinner with the family, bathing, and packing up for the next day; and post daily chore list on the fridge as a reminder.

Any forms and medications may be turned into the elementary or high school office at any time- the earlier, the better! Thank you for your part in making this a healthy school year!

August is National Immunization Awareness Month

National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages and to raise awareness about the important role vaccines play in preventing serious, sometimes deadly, diseases across the lifespan.

One of the most important things a parent can do to protect their child’s health is getting their child vaccinated according to the recommended immunization schedule. Whether parents have a baby starting at a new child care facility, a toddler heading to preschool, a student going back to elementary, middle or high school – or even a college freshman– parents should check their child’s vaccination records.

Child care facilities, preschool programs, schools and colleges are prone to disease outbreaks. Children in these settings can easily spread illnesses to one another due to poor hand washing, not covering their coughs and sneezes and other factors related to interacting in crowded environments.

Serious health consequences can arise if children are not vaccinated. Without vaccines, children are at increased risk for disease and can spread disease to others in their play groups, child care centers, classrooms and communities. This includes spreading diseases to babies who are too young to be fully vaccinated and people with weakened immune systems due to cancer and other health conditions.

Be Well,

Mrs. Katie Anderson, RN, BSN
