KRASNODAR

KRASNODAR• Krasnodar - a town in

southern Russia, the administrative center of Krasnodar Krai, the capital of the Kuban.

• The city was founded in 1793.

• Before 1920 was named Ekaterinodar.

• The city was founded on January 12, 1794 as Yekaterinodar.

• After the October Revolution, Yekaterinodar was renamed Krasnodar (December 1920).

• There are two potential meanings for the new name of the city either beautiful gift or red gift (i.e. 'gift of the reds').

Krasnodar - a cosmopolitan city.• It lived 786 thousand

people a hundred nationalities of which:

• 90% - Russian,• 3,3% - Armenians,• 2,8% - Ukrainians,• 1,1% - Adyghe,• 2,8% - other nationalities.

• From airport you can fly to 32 Russian cities, 5 capitals of the CIS, CIS ountries.

• In Krasnodar you can travel by all kinds of transport: by air, rail, river, bus, urban electric transport - tram, trolleybus.

Krasnodar is one of the major cultural centers of Russia.

• The city has a drama theater, puppetry, circus arts, museums, a philharmonic, numerous parks and gardens, botanical garden, a water park.

The most interesting place of Krasnodar is Krasnaya Street. One can see the Avrora cinemacenter.

A "Triumphal Arch" is situated in the middle of Krasnaya Street.

Main sights

Krasnodar is home to the steel lattice hyperboloid tower built by the Russian engineer and scientist Shukhov in 1928.

• Our Gymnasium was founded in 1975. • Since the foundation of Gymnasium number

23 is the institution with intensive study of English.

• There are 1112 students in Gymnasium (38 classes).

• The motto of the school "The Future - here!"
