10:00 am Worship

11:00 am Fellowship

Sunday, July 26 Biblical miracles can be a real hang up for the modern mind, and even, attimes, a barrier rather than an entry to faith. Even if one may marvel atmagicians, there is always that underlying belief that one's marvel is linkedto our inability to catch what we call the "slight of hand" of the trick. But

to our inability to catch what we call the "slight of hand" of the trick. Butmiracles? Jesus turning water into wine? Really? Or walking on water orfeeding five thousand people with one's boy's supply of five loaves of breadand two fish (which were not large tuna!) As we read John 6:1-12, Rick Ottywill seek to avoid the temptation to either explain or prove the miracles, preferring to delve into discovering exactly, "What Is the Miracle?"

Dear friends, Our mission team of twenty is home fromthe Philippines, with stories to tell, pictures to showand an experience to share. Yet, undoubtedlythere were also seeds God planted during those ten days that will take time -days, months, years - to sprout, take root and blossom. One may not evenbe aware of the seeds' presence, but faith nurtures them until the time isright, and one is someday surprised by another blossom of grace. This Sunday, church members will depart for the annual mission tripto Mission at the Eastward in Maine, and while not to another country, theytoo will have experiences to share and seeds planted. What a joy it is to seeour church's support of and members' participation in mission beyond ourwalls. Yet, God does not just plant seeds during mission trips. Whetherpondering the mystery of nature, viewing the horror of tragedy, experiencingthe joy of relationship, or grieving the fragility of human life, God may beimplanting a seed within, not for now, but for the future. As I write this, I amreminded of "Hymn of Promise" by Natalie Sleeth, the second verse of whichechoes my thoughts:

There's a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; There's a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me.From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery,Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

With Christ's peace,

Next Weeks Prayers Morning: Praise to you, O God most holy,Uncreated Light. I am thankful that in you thereis no night. Let my morning prayer rise to youas blooming flowers turn to meet the sun. May Imeet the adventure of this day open to the

meet the adventure of this day open to theopportunities you give me to show the love andjustice of Jesus Christ. May I be so filled withthe Holy Spirit that peace and compassionradiate from me to bless others so that they are touched by your glory.Enrich my senses with the beauty of your world, my mind with wonder atyour ways, and my spirit with gratitude for all that you prepare for theredemption of creation through Jesus Christ the Son. Pierce my heart withlove, especially for those in any kind of need, so that I am moved to helpwhere I can and moved to cry out for help if the need is greater than I cananswer. Spare others the consequences of my sin, and help me to bereconciled with those I have harmed in the past. Make me slow to anger, quick to forgive, and quicker still to confess my faults. In all things, let metrust in you. Let me finish the day as I begin it, in your care, in your gentle, merciful, loving hands, beloved and blessed triune God, whom I wouldworship and adore now and forever. Amen. Evening: Holy triune God, Lord, have mercy, Lord, have mercy, Lord, havemercy. Thank you for the love you have shown me today. The gifts of air, water, food, and clothing; the gifts of human and nonhuman companionshipand community; the gift of the Spirit around me and Christ within me:all these gifts call for my deepest, highest praise to you. Forgive me for thetimes today when I have failed to follow your guidance, submit to your rule,or glory in your majesty. Grant healing and peace to any whom I haveharmed today; let them not suffer because of my sins. Let us enter the nighttogether, giving praise for your mercy and kindness. Grant that we willjourney into night, led by your eternal Light, and that we may gain comfort, rest, and renewal, rising to a new day giving you thanks and praise until youbring resurrection to all creation. Amen.

Update on Little Children of the Philippines(LCP) Mission Trip

We have received some more beautiful pictures and meaningful updatesfrom Sally and are sharing them here.

Health Education team taught in all 10 LCP communities. Sally holding ajar with a "year's worth of tar" which is what would accumulate in a smoker'slungs if he/she smoked 1/2 pack of cigarettes a day for one year.

A typical "home" in the very poor community of Canday-ong.

The 30+ children that PCIS sponsors met us for "Play Saturday". They loved the waterbottles we shipped to LCP in February (which were filled with candy) and handed out tothem. It was a joyous day of games, singing and dancing.

Bob Braceland plays Scrabble with two of our sponsored children. Eventhough their language is Cebuano, these little girls held their own withEnglish words.

Friday evening was wonderful fun as the shelter kids had a dinner for us completewith entertainment. The shelters are primarily located on the LCP campus. Theyhouse kids (ages 6 and up) who are orphaned, abandoned or abused. Their resiliency is astounding as is their love of God.

This picture is of "Amazon Woman",Debbie Johnson, who is lifting 50 poundweights made of cement inside of largealuminum cans. Wendy Braceland lookson from behind her.
