From Randy... ...Do this in remembrance of me. What an opportunity to observe Lords Supper and focus on freedom when we gather to worship on Sunday, July 7. The truth shall set you free Jesus spoke in the Gospel of John. Freedoms abound in the United States, and freedoms abound to those who are a part of the Kingdom of God. Express your freedom on July 4 and express your freedom on July 7 as we observe the Lords Supper as a part of worship. and then came Music Camp. As of the writing of this article we already have 30 children signed up to be a part of Music Camp from July 8-12 with performances scheduled for Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14. Both performances will be in the Family Life Center. Where do all these children come from? This year we are doing an analysis as to whereour VBS and Music Camp children are coming from. Here is a quick analysis of VBS: 15 families from Shiloh were represented in attendance 14 families who attend other churches were represented 1 unchurched family was represented We will do a similar analysis for Music Camp. Why?”, you ask. To get a better picture of how to use events such as these as outreach events to the community. Not every events primary purpose is designed to be an outreach to the unchurched although the unchurched are always welcome to be a part and participate. A question to ask ourselves is how do we purposefully promote and provide publicity to specific unchurched areas and families in our community. As we enter into budget planning in future years how do we set aside funds to specifically reach out to the unchurched in our community through the various ministries our church has on its calendar. Do this in remembrance of me Jesus said. Does that include intentionally reaching out to unchurched families in our community? I think it does.

“Let the Little Children Come to Me”

A t the beginning of worship service following the week of Vacation Bible School (VBS), Shiloh’s children’s minister, Rebecca Goff, gave a brief, yet passionate,

summary of the VBS events and thanked eve-ryone who participated. Following her intro-duction, our energetic and high-spirited chil-dren filled the front area of the stage, and they sang three up-tempo arrangements choreo-graphed with sign language learned during VBS. By the excitement shown on the faces of the children, you could see the spirit of how the entire Shiloh ministerial team and volun-teers had worked together to make this yet an-other successful VBS. Accompanying our reg-ular Sunday morning musical team were Sa-vannah Hagewood, who played her electric guitar, and Mahala Becker, who played a beau-tiful piano rendition of “Above All” during the offertory interlude.

Pastor Randy’s worship message character-ized a perfect example of his appreciation of all the folks in our church who volunteer their time, effort, money, and sincere dedication to God and Shiloh.

He started his message by noting that within a week or two the new ramp would soon be completed, and we can once again enter and exit via the front entrance of the sanctuary, providing access to all wishing to attend whether they are young, older in years, or physically challenged.

He then reflected on the other end of the spectrum regarding the highly successful week of VBS and how the members had volunteered their time, money, energy, and assistance to ensure the needs of the children were met.

Just as Jesus elevated the faith of little chil-dren, the Pastor reflected on how he saw the folks who helped with VBS interact in the same way with the children. Following the actions of Jesus who exclaimed: “Let the little children come;” likewise, those workers ele-vated the future of those children. A church without children is a church without a future.

13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.—Mark 10:13-16

He compared the number of birthdays individuals may have had and how that ramp may someday serve as a benefit. Con-versely, he commented on the future accumulation of birth-days for the children and how that same generosity and com-mitment enable us to have a fully functional facility that serves to address the spiritual and physical needs of each end of the spectrum.

In closing, the Pastor commended the people in the congre-gation on their ability to stand tall and be counted upon for whenever a need arises. He also reminded us we must come as little children in order to receive the Kingdom of God. A show of hands revealed that nearly a third of the congregation had participated in VBS, a commitment that reflects what Jesus tells us in Mark 10:13-16. That says it all! —Joe Parker

Once the rails are added to the ramp, everyone will have access through the front entrance.

Children’s Ministry By Rebecca Goff

Music camp starts this month! Once again Barbara Perry will lead our children in a fun filled week of learning lines, song and choreography for “A Not so Terrible Parable”! All completed 2nd -7th graders are invited to come out July 8-12 from 9AM-12PM with performances on Saturday, July 13 at 2:00PM and again on Sunday, July 14 during our regular service time at 11:00AM. Children’s Church this month continues with the theme, “Raise your Game”. Our verse is “God began a good work in you. And I am sure that he will carry it on until it is completed. That will be on the day Christ Jesus re-turns.” Philippians 1:6, NIrV. Our lessons will continue with the fruits of the spirit that we started in June. We will be learning how to show God’s goodness to others, to be faithful so others can count on you, that God can give you the strength to be gentle and the power to have self-control. We are looking forward to a great time in Children’s Church this month!
