FROM PASTOR REBECCA
PASTOR’S SCHEDULE
As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, figuring out my new
schedule at church has been a bit of an adventure and has required
both flexibility on my part and from many of you. Together
though, we seem to be finding our way through, and even creating
some new ministry opportunities. As part of my continued attempt
at figuring out my schedule and how I can best use my time and in
the hope of trying to live into the draft of our new vision statement,
I have decided to try something new, at the encouragement of
Linda. So on Thursday afternoons you will find me out in the
community – either at Tim Hortons or Wegmans (or some place
similar) available to all of you and anyone else for prayer or
conversation, or out visiting some of you at the places you work
and volunteer. Like everything else, this will be a work in
progress, but hopefully fruitful for all of us. Check the bulletin
each week, Facebook, or call/text my cell (available on the church
answering machine or in the directory) for the most up-to-date
information and hopefully in a few weeks a pattern will emerge!
SPEAKING OF FAITH
A Short History of Islam and Its Beliefs
What is Islam? Curious about what Muslims believe? What is
Quran? What do Muslims believe about Jesus?
Many years ago POP welcomed Ishaq Mehr, a practicing Muslim
who enjoys sharing his faith with others, to our congregation for
conversation and learning. The event was very well received.
Given the increasing fear and conflict in our world, it seems like
now is an important time to have this conversation again and learn
the truth about what others believe. So join us on October 22nd as
we gather together for a day of learning and sharing again with
Ishaq. We will being promptly at 10am and light lunch will be
provided around noon. Our day will conclude with an interfaith
worship service at 4pm. The event is limited to the first 50 people,
so make sure you sign up if you are interested.

PARISH LIFE/ACTIVITIES
VISITATION/EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY
A renewed visitation ministry at POP has begun to form under the
leadership of Sandy King and Pastor Rebecca. This group of
volunteers has started a visitation cycle for those who are not able
to attend worship on a regular basis. As this group continues to
form and organize, we are looking for the names of those
interested in doing visits and those who may wish to be visited and
are not sure they are on the visitation list. Contact the church
office if you are interested in visiting or being visited.
The hope of the group is to connect all members of POP, both
those in worship on Sunday and those who are not, with each other
so that everyone can fully experience what it means to be body of
Christ together. Eventually this group of volunteers will also be
trained to be Eucharistic ministers who provide communion to
those who desire to receive it on a more regular basis.
COMEDY NIGHT! Sunday, October 2nd is our Comedy Night Event. This will be held
at Rob’s Comedy Playhouse at 1340 N. Forest Road in
Williamsville, NY- doors open at 5:30pm. Plan on an evening of
fun, laughs and chances to win some nice prizes as basket raffles
and a 50/50 raffle will be held. Tickets are $25.00 per person
which includes the cost of the show as well as two cocktails. The
club also has a menu of standard bar foods if you are interested in
buying dinner or snacks while you attend the show. Tickets will
be sold after Sunday services or you can contact Debi Donogher
(or any other council member) for them. All proceeds will benefit
our general fund.
You can be a part of helping this to be a successful event for us as
well! Feel free to sign out tickets to sell to your friends, neighbors
and co-workers. We are also looking for donations for the Basket
Raffle and/or anything that can be live auctioned at the event (an
autographed item, tickets to an event, etc). See Debi Donogher
with your contribution. This promises to be a great evening of fun
for adults so JOIN US AND BRING YOUR FRIENDS TOO!!!

ADULT RETREAT
September 23 – 25 Prince of Peace will be joining other adults
from the area for a retreat at Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Center.
There will be opportunities during the retreat to relax, engage in
Bible study, worship, and explore the Chautauqua area. The
facility we stay at is handicap accessible and there are a few people
willing to provide rides. This is a great weekend to relax, think
about God, and spend time with other people of faith! Talk to
Scott LaBounty or Pastor Rebecca if you are interested.
FLU CLINIC SCHEDULED HERE AT POP
Our annual Flu Clinic is scheduled for Sunday, October 2 in co-
operation with Rite Aid Pharmacy. The pharmacist will be here

scheduling building usage was taken over by the church office.
Council members, organization officers, etc. have been sent a
packet for use in securing the building. Please note that all events
scheduled to take place here at POP must be requested in writing
and approved by the office at least 2 weeks in advance. If you
have not received a packet, but are interested in scheduling an
event for an organization or yourself, applications are available in
the church office. If you have any questions, please contact Linda
in the church office.

PARISH OUTREACH
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY
Our next adopt-a-highway cleanup is scheduled for Sunday,
September 11 following our ONE 10 a.m. worship service. Not
only does this tie into the ELCA’s God’s Work Our Hands Sunday,
but it also marks the anniversary of the loss of many lives in our
country. What better way is there for us to honor our current
neighbors and remember the lives of those lost, than to spend the
day engaged in an act of service?
FAMILY TABLE FOOD MINISTRY
Family Table Food Ministries is up and running again with a new
menu! For information regarding the resumption of this ministry,
please talk to Amy or Dave Day. If the cost of food is an issue for
you, please see Dave, Amy or Pastor Rebecca
CURRENT COLLECTIONS
Our clothing shed is in the back near the garage. Paper recyclables
can be dropped off in the bin located near the clothing shed. Soda
can tabs are collected in the kitchen. These benefit the Ronald
McDonald House. The collection of cans & bottles benefits our
youth group. Please drop bottles and cans off at church and
remember to separate out plastic and glass! Our food collection to
benefit the Tri-Community Food Pantry continues. Please put non-
perishable goods in the bin in the narthex.
OUTREACH
Our outreach division will begin meeting this fall to plan activities
and events. If you are interested in participating or have an idea for
this group, talk to Pastor Rebecca or Chris George.
NEW SCHEDULE IN EFFECT
Please note that our new schedule is in effect. Generally, Pastor
Rebecca will not be in the office on Mondays. If you have an
emergency, you may call her cell phone. The office closure is
planned for Monday, but could change due to other commitments.
If you need to see or speak with her on a Monday, please call and
make arrangements with her to switch days.

CONFERENCE EVENTS
LUTHERAN CAMPUS MINISTRY
New branding coming soon. Since drastic financial cuts have been
made to the ELCA’s campus ministry program staff, a grassroots
movement among current campus ministers has begun using the
concept of “LuMin” to help communicate to student what our
ministries are all about. So we too will start using the same
"brand" at LCM of WNY to help our students on campus see the
light of Christ illuminating their journey in these difficult student
years. You can read more about it here: http://lumin-network.com.
Help us reach out to your students. Since Pastor Steve Biegner has
been working with LCM of WNY for the past five years, he
received three (3) notifications of students from ELCA
congregations starting in local WNY campuses. Three. 3. Please
have your church's staff communicate to Pastor Steve if a young
adult from your community is heading to a WNY campus. This is
the only way we know. Even if they were never active in your
youth group, living at a family home in WNY or at a local
community college, please let us know some contact information
for these students so that we can make sure they are aware that
Lutheran Campus Ministry is here with them. Send contacts to

MISSION MESSAGE
LUTHERAN DISASTER RESPONSE
Lutheran Disaster Response brings God’s hope, healing and
renewal to people whose lives have been disrupted by disasters in
the United States and around the world. When the dust settles and
The headlines change, we stay to provide ongoing assistance to
those in need.
We are a church that is a catalyst, convener and bridge builder.
Lutheran Disaster Response collaborates with other disaster
response organizations and religious entities. This enables the
Greatest stewardship of resources and maximum impact of
response. We are a welcome partner because we respect the
perspectives and strengths of others.
We recognize that every disaster is local. Because of this, we
believe every response needs to be rooted in the community; we
work to accompany that community from immediate relief through
long-term recovery. In our international work we partner closely
with companion churches and other Lutheran and ecumenical relief
agencies to make sure local needs are being addressed and met. In
the United States, we work through our extensive affiliate network
and other partners to address these same concerns.
Where Lutherans are responding: Africa Drought, West Virginia
Flooding, Texas and Louisiana Flooding, Japan Earthquakes,
Nepal Earthquake, U.S. Wildfires, Middle East and Europe
Refugee Crisis, AMMPARO: Protecting Migrant Minors
Lutheran Disaster Response would not exist if it were not for the
thousands, if not millions, of people who make an impact by
getting involved. Whether efforts are financial support,
volunteering or helping to prepare communities for disasters, lives
and livelihoods are improved. YOU are one of the people who
helps, just by contributing to your ELCA congregation, which, in
turn, sends mission support to its synod.
Thank you!

WORKING VISION STATEMENT
Just as Jesus welcomed everyone into his family, we are called to
be a house of safety, love, hope, and grace where ALL are
accepted. As God’s beloved children, we work together to build a
community of disciples for friends and family, neighbors and
strangers.
