We gather here for the expressed purpose of praise and worship today. Praise has many meanings and in modern context I think it is appropriate to characterize it as jubilant and joyful corporate acknowledgement of who Jesus is and what He has done. The term “worship" seems to have a more reverent, introspecve, and personal tone to it. Not always, but o*en I think of praise as something we do together. Worship is more one-on-one between an individual and God. I agree - these terms can mean different things to different people and that meaning can shi* given the varied backgrounds and experiences we have. I define them in this way to give you an insight into how I think about our worship gatherings. Everything I do in planning worship falls under one primary mandate: the church meets to bring glory to God. On my list of priories the “glory of God” occupies the first 10 slots. At number 11 of consideraons I begin to branch out into the various ideas of how to accomplish praise and worship. However we praise, it has to bring glory to God. And, however we worship, it has to bring glory to God. I create moments in each service that allow us to corporately express praise and I create moments in each service that are more inmate and one-on-one with God. Don’t miss the opportunity to do both.
