Frisco, TX 12/10/2013 If I were blueprinting my ideal shooting experience this would be about as close as I could get to realizing that vision. Shooting has been a big deal in my family my whole life. Growing up in Abilene, I went out and shot on the outskirts of town quite a bit. I always loved the experience of plinking, relaxing and being outside. In the city that is a very difficult experience to replicate. Most gun ranges are poorly ventilated, dirty, extremely loud due to no effort to abate noise, and the worst part, the staffs are knowitalls and not the least interested in customer service or wooing people into the sport. I'm an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor so I'm acquainted with the various forms of approach in teaching people how to shoot. I truly appreciate that FGC has taken the approach of hiring knowledgeable instructors who are GOOD people. One of the range officers, Eric, is a Gunnery Sgt Marine, hooah. He spent quite a bit of time working with my mom and daughter the other day on shooting technique and I know they appreciated hearing a different voice besides me. It is possible to have both a safe range AND to be a positive, encouraging instructor at the same time. If you are getting started in shooting, this is a great place to come, especially if you have had bad experiences with other ranges. I'm a VIP member. We decided as a family to invest in the vision of the club long before dirt had been broken and it's played out even better than we imagined. I've taken time to get to know many of the staff members and would give high marks for customer service and a Yesfirst approach. Jerah Hutchins and Brandon Johnson have been great emissaries to the members over these last few months and the GM Earl is fantastic. If I were blueprinting my ideal shooting experience this wouldbe about as close as I could get to realizing that vision. Shooting has been a big deal in my family my whole life.Growing up in Abilene, I went out and shot on the outskirts oftown quite a bit. I always loved the experience of plinking,relaxing and being outside.  In the city that is a very difficultexperience to replicate.  Most gun ranges are poorlyventilated, dirty, extremely loud due to no effort to abatenoise, and the worst part, the staffs are knowitalls and notthe least interested in customer service or wooing people intothe sport.

I'm an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor so I'm acquaintedwith the various forms of approach in teaching people how toshoot.  I truly appreciate that FGC has taken the approach ofhiring knowledgeable instructors who are GOOD people.One of the range officers, Eric, is a Gunnery Sgt Marine,hooah. He spent quite a bit of time working with my mom anddaughter the other day on shooting technique and I knowthey appreciated hearing a different voice besides me. It ispossible to have both a safe range AND to be a positive,encouraging instructor at the same time. If you are gettingstarted in shooting, this is a great place to come, especially ifyou have had bad experiences with other ranges.

As far as the ranges themselves, the technology isbreathtaking. The target retrieval system in the range iselectronic so you can punch a button and send it to setdistances (3, 7, 15 yards, etc.).  The pulleys are shielded soyou can shoot shotguns unlike many other ranges thatprohibit due to you striking the retrieval chain/pulley.  There isa fantastic noise dampening material lining the walls. Mybrother blasted off 5 quick shots of a Benelli M4 in the laneright next to me and I couldn't believe how much it killed thesound.  The circulation is state of the art in drawing lead andsmoke downrange.  It's so unclutttered in the ranges, causethey take time to sweep the brass up frequently.  One of thetouches I deeply appreciate is the ballistic glass wallsbetween stalls.  If the guy next to you accidentally dischargeshis weapon towards you, for instance, the bullet will bestopped. I appreciate that you can shoot fullauto if you havea Class III weapon, and you can pretty much shoot as fast asyou want as long as the RSO's feel you have good controlover your weapon.

The VIP element is really just kicking in. I believe therestaurant is coming online this week.  I've sampled some ofthe menu at a couple events and HOLY SMOKES this guy isamazing.  One of the finest chefs in Dallas. Today I was inthe range and he said, "Hey would you like to try out myCuban Press sandwich." Well, sure.  That was one of thebest sandwiches I've ever had in my life.   Sometime in thenext couple weeks they'll be finishing up the afterhoursbiometric access.  That means that if you're a VIP memberyou can come in and shoot at 2am if you like.  I can't evenbelieve that's going to happen.  So excited! At my companywe have many dignitaries/celebrities come to town and we'rethrilled to have a unique and fun place to take them forshooting and fine dining. Anybody can go play golf.

I've had a few chances to spend some time talking withChristian, the owner, and he's a great guy and I love hisapproach to the culture he's creating here.  I appreciatevisionaries and folks who break new ground in an industry.You can tell a lot about leaders by the people they choose todelegate to and the evidence of Christian's leadership isobvious in the people surrounding him.

Anyway, I didn't intend to write War & Peace here, but I'mjust thrilled about this club.  Looking forward to watching itgrow and take root in the community and very proud to be amember!
