02 i news 02 i news Trade delegation visits USA, Mexico A BAO’AN government delegation paid a visit to the United States and Mexico last month to seek cooperation in high technologies, life health, genomics, smart city construction and industrial integration. During a visit to Boston on June 16, Gu Jinghua, head of Invest Bao’an, which is tasked by the district government with attracting investment, signed an MOU with Prof. Shao Zhong, dean of the Computer Science Department of Yale University, on Yale-Shenzhen Innova- tive Center Project, which will inject new vitality to Bao’an’s smart city and AI industry development. Gu also signed an MOU with Prof. L. Jay Guo with the University of Michigan on the industrialization of nanostructured color research. Guo and his innovation group agreed to set up a headquarters and a nanostructured color research institute in Bao’an, which will build a nanostruc- tured color gene bank for future develop- ment of the industry. A Bao’an investment and trade pro- motion was held at Stanford University on June 18, at which Charles Cantor, a globally celebrated molecular biologist, was invited to give a lecture on precision medicine. Gu gave a brief introduction on Bao’an’s investment environment and policies at the meeting. That afternoon at the China Shenzhen- U.S. Silicon Valley Investment Collabo- ration and Exchange Conference, Bao’an and Apostle, a local life science company devoted to technologies for early cancer detections, clinched a deal to cooperate Acupuncture research center opens BAO’AN District Acupuncture Clinical Research Center was inaugurated July 10, the latest fruit of the district’s unre- mitting efforts to promote the develop- ment of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The center is located at Bao’an TCM (Group) Hospital and will be led by Fu Wenbin, a leading acupuncturist and professor at Guangdong Provincial TCM Hospital. Its medical team will be mainly made up of Fu’s apprentice doctor group, with support from the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangdong Provincial TCM Hospital, and Spaulding Neuro- modulation Center of Harvard Medical School. The center is expected to help improve clinical acupuncture tech- niques and modern rehabilitation technologies in the district, as well as scientific research and medical staff training in TCM. The district government hopes that the center will become a first-class treatment center for acupuncture, a healing technique that has thousands of years of history. At an inauguration ceremony, Bao’an Party chief Yao Ren said that as a grass- roots government, Bao’an has been ded- icated to carrying forward the tradition and ensuring the development of TCM in an effort to implement the strategy of “Healthy China 2030.” (SD News) BAO’AN is playing an exemplary role for Shenzhen in promoting high-end international education, which tops the district government’s agenda for this year, Bao’an Daily has reported. In the past five years, Canadian educators have been invited to give lectures to Bao’an teachers, while the district’s education authorities have organized local teachers to receive training in Canada. A Sino-Canadian English-teaching experimental class has also been opened. The district government has also reached out to Germany, con- cluding the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with IB and TINC of Germany on Sept. 12, 2016. The German sides agreed to conduct in-depth cooperation with Bao’an Vocational Technical School in major and curriculum construc- tion, teacher evaluation, and teacher training and exchanges. Bao’an introduced 160 foreign teachers in 2017, covering all public schools and kindergartens across the district. More than 50 teach courses other than English. Five Bao’an primary and middle schools established sistership with foreign counterparts in May. They are tasked with the preven- tion and supervision of epidemics, as well as the supervision of food, drugs and public environmental hygiene, according to Liu Kaiqian, head of the center. Forums and product launches are also among the highlights of the exhibition. Think tanks and industry experts from home and abroad are expected to share their viewpoints on the state of their industries during the exhibition. Two high-end forums will also take place, including a summit focusing on upgrading industries in Bao’an and another upscale forum on global intel- ligent manufacturing development. Meanwhile, more than 55 product launches, sourcing conferences and experiential activities regarding cutting- edge technologies have been prepared for visitors. The expo is organized by the Bao’an District Government, Bao’an Economic Cooperation and Promotion Bureau, and Shenzhen Logistics and Supply Chain Management Association. More than 400 Bao’an firms will take part in the expo, which is expected to attract over 200,000 professional visitors. According to the organizers, the purpose of the expo is to attract more quality firms and talents to settle in Bao’an. The expo will serve as a plat- form to integrate and share industrial resources.
