Silver Bells in the City Friday November 18 at 5:30 pm
The MSU students of University Lutheran Church (1020 S. Harrison Road,
East Lansing, MI 48823) have invited the International students of
Friendship House MSU, and their families, to join them for the 27 th
Annual Silver Bells in the City celebration in downtown Lansing on
Friday, November 18.
This year features the 15th annual Electric Light parade which starts
about 6:00 pm in downtown Lansing. Immediately following the
parade, the steps of the State Capitol will sparkle as the State Christmas
tree is lighted, followed by a spectacular fireworks display cascading
over the capitol dome.
Interested International students should sign up at Friendship House or
contact Rich (517-332-8050). Our students will meet at the UniversityLutheran Church parking lot at 5:00 pm for rides to downtown Lansing
(and back afterwards).
Advent by Candlelight for
Women Saturday, December 3
at 6:00 pm
This event is for women only.
Our Savior Lutheran Church (located in west Lansing at 7910 E. St. Joe
Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917) invites the women students, Visiting Scholars
and female family members of Friendship House to its annual Advent by
Candlelight on Saturday, December 3. Volunteer hostesses set tables in
holiday finery from their own homes. Delicious homemade desserts are
served. Inspirational readings are shared and ancient Christmas carols sung together. This event is always held
the first week in Advent. Advent (from the Latin word adventus meaning "coming") is a season observed in many
Western Christian churches, a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of
Jesus at Christmas. Interested International student women should sign up at Friendship House or contact Rich
(517-332-8050). Rides to and from Advent by Candlelight will be available but please indicate on the sign up if
you need rides. Rides will leave Friendship House at 5:30 pm.
Boars Head Festival Concert Sunday, December 4 at 2:00 pm
is leading a trip, open to all
Friendship House students (but we have a limit of 20 tickets), to attend the amazing
Boars Head Festival Concert at Concordia University/Ann Arbor on Sunday,
December 4 at 4:00 pm. This concert enacts medieval Christmastraditions and the
story of Christ's birth in this moving musical spectacle involving orchestra, choir,
pipe organ and musical actors. Tickets cost $10 apiece tickets are limited the first
20. Transportation leaves Friendship House at 2:00 pm. The group will return to

Christmas Festival Concert Sunday, December 4 at 4:15 pm
If you are unable to attend the Boars Head but are interested in
Christmas music locally, there is an outstanding alternative in the
Christmas Festival Concert at Martin Luther Chapel on Sunday
December 4 at 4:15 pm (the Chapel is located at 444 Abbott Road,
East Lansing, MI 48823).
This Chapel event is a free festival of music celebrating the
upcoming Christmas season. Holiday music selections will be
performed by the seasonal choir accompanied by an orchestra
comprised of musicians involved in the ministry at Martin
Luther Chapel.
Sign-up is available at Friendship House or contact Rich if you need a ride (517-332-8050). The Chapel will
transport our signed-
will arrive at Friendship House at approximately 3:45 pm. Students may wait inside Friendship House to stay
warm!

MI 48842) invites the women students, Visiting Scholars and female
family members of Friendship House to its annual afternoon
