SHIHAN STUART CORRIGAL SENSEI GARRY O’NEILLShihan Stuart Corrigal (6th dan) began his Kyokushin journey in March 1968, and is currently branch chief of the IKO Canada (awarded in 1984 by Sosai Oyama), responsible for the Western Canadian region. He is head instructor of the Rich-mond Kyokushin Karate Club, South Arm dojo.
Shihan Stuart has traveled extensively throughout the world, training, competing, officiating and conducting IKO Officiating Seminars. He was recently appointed to the Interna-tional Tournament Officials Committee as a Chief Executive Referee for Kyokushin. He has also competed as a competitor in both the 14th All Japan Tournament & the 3rd World Open Karate Tournament.
Shihan Stuart has the distinction of being the only non-Japanese North American to have trained most extensively with Sosai Oyama. This included regular training at the old Honbu dojo, Mt. Mitsumine, Yugawara camps, Hawaii Summer camps, and North American Black Belt Conferences.
Sensei Garry began training Kyokushin Karate at the age of 14 and then successfully completed (at age 16), a 40-man kumite to attain his shodan. He lived as uchi-deshi (live-in student) at Brisbane dojo for 2 years under the guidance of Cameron Quinn. At the age 19 he did a second 40-man kumite to achieve his nidan grade and, at age 21, completed a 30-man kumite for his sandan grade at the headquarters in Japan.
Sensei Garry moved to Japan in 1995 to dedicate himself to the study of karate, and trained for 2 years at the Kamata dojo under Hiroshige Shihan, instructor to some of Kyokushin’s most suc-cessful tournament fighters; Midori Kenji (5th World Champion), Yamaki Kenji (6th World Champion), Kazumi Hajime (5 times All Japan Champion).
In 1995, Garry competed in the 6th World Open Tournament and placed 4th; the first time an Australian fighter has ever placed so high in a World Tournament. Then in 1996 and 1997, he competed in the All Japan Open and placed 2nd on both occasions; a first for a non-Japanese fighter in the 43 year history of the All Japan competition. In 1997, his last year in Japan, he was employed by the Honbu as a full time instructor.
With an extremely impressive tournament history worldwide, and particularly in Japan, Sensei Garry’s knowledge and experience, coupled with his humble approach, will be of immeasurable value to all those who attend.

Shihan Kenny was awarded his 7th dan in Japan in
2007, alongside an honourary award for his contri-
butions to the growth of Kyokushin in Africa and his
untiring efforts and significant contribution to the
youth segment in Kyokushin.
At the 10th World Tournament in 2011, Kancho
Matsui appointed him to the IKO International Com-
mittee. He is on the technical advisory committee to
IKO Japan, is Chairman for IKO Africa, and Provincial
Advisor to South Africa.
Shihan Tockar and Shihan Kenny’s enduring friend-
ship spans 40 years, beginning when Shihan Kenny
began studying karate under Shihan Tockar’s tuition,
and finally developing into their karate partnership.
SHIHAN KENNY UYTENBOGAARDTUndoubtedly one of the most respected karate-ka
worldwide, Shihan Kenny is all they say in legend
and more. Often referred to as “the gentle giant”,
his mild and peaceful manner belies his ferocity and
intensity on the dojo floor.
Shihan Kenny is held in high esteem and admired by
all martial artists. His training methods, manner, and
considerable patience, humility, technical under-
standing, and years of experience define him as
both a sage and authority; setting him in an extrao-
dinary league of his own.
Since 1979 he has been acclaimed in Japan, ap-
pearing on Japanese television, and even becoming
a Japanese comic book hero. In 1980 he thrilled a
huge crowd at the Good Hope Centre in Cape Town,
smashing two piles of ice, each containing 5 x 90kg

Shihan Tockar’s absolute committment to the Kyokushin ethos, extreme generosity and warmth, and killer classes are evidenced in his thriving, action-packed dojo in North Bondi.
Shihan Trevor Tockar has practiced Kyokushin Karate for
45 years and was awarded his 6th Dan by Kancho Matsui
in February 1996 after being assessed by a formida-
ble grading panel consisting of Kancho Matsui, Shihan
Sampei, Shihan Midori, Shihan Gorai, and Shihan Barnes
(his teacher). Fourteen years earlier, in 1982, he was
awarded his 5th dan by the legendary master himself -
Sosai Masutatsu Oyama.
Shihan Tockar competed successfully in tournaments
from an early stage of his karate career, at regional,
national and international levels, most intensively between 1969 and 1981.
During this time he was awarded his national colours for Knockdown Karate and
represented his State, South African Universities, South African Maccabi, and
the South African All Styles team. Shihan Tockar was a member of the South
African team which competed in the first World Open Karate Tournament in To-
kyo in 1975, and from 1979 until 1999 he was coach of the very powerful South
African Knockdown Karate team, which competed in the infamous Kyokushin
World Tournaments, as well as in tournaments in France, England, Australia,
Seychelles and elsewhere on the globe.
For two decades, he was South African branch-chief, and vice-chairman of the
IKO (International Karate Organization Kyokushin) for the continent of Africa.
Shihan Tockar is currently IKO Branch Chief for Australia, operates the North
Bondi dojo, and is host of the first Friendship Gasshuku in Australia this year.
He officiates at international events all over the world, and is an internationally
accredited referee.
The Kyokushin organisation in Australia is well established with Shihan Nik Cujic as Country Representative and Branch Chief, together with Shihan Trevor Tocckar (North Bondi), Stephen Takiwa (NZ), Shihan Con Kakatsos, Shihan Chris Gower (NZ), and Sensei Dominic Hopkins.

He was selected for the Aus-tralian Team in 1975, 1979 & 1984 to fight in the World Open Tournament, but due to injury and committments was only able to compete in 1984.
Nikola Cujic lives the life of a Karate teacher and puts his dogi on six to seven days a week. He regularly travels overseas to attend Tournaments, Camps, Seminars and Conferences in Japan, USA, Hawaii, Canada, New Zealand, and Russia.
When asked what he considers the best part of Kyokushin Karate, he answers: “Through Kyokushin I have brothers in every part of the world.”
Shihan Con began training Kyokushin in 1967, at the young age of 14. He has a
long, impressive tournament history including placing top three for full contact
at Australian Nationals (a few years running). He was also part of the Australian
Squad Team for non-contact All Styles which was chosen for the World Champi-

A pioneer in Kyokushin Australia’s history, Shihan Con’s incredible flexibility
and superfast legs, coupled with his humble and mild manner, has produced
respected, talented, and fierce fighters in the competitive arena.
Shihan Con runs Kyokushin Revesby; an historical dojo, operated over the years
by many great Australian fighters and instructors, and also one of the first Ky-
okushin dojos ever established in Australia.
Shihan Con was graded to his godan in 2007 at Mount Mitsumine by Kancho
Matsui; having completed a tough grading with over 60 fights.

Kyokushin World Title ever held by a Kiwi!
Chris lived the hard road as an early foreigner
in Japan, training under the late Sosai Oyama
at Tokyo Honbu and being among the few foreigners at the time permitted to fight in
the All Japan National Tournament. He has hosted Kancho Matsui in NZ for a month,
owns and runs the Mt. Victoria dojo, and leads the NZ National Technical Committee

He was appointed NZ Branch Chief for the IKO in 2000 and is a well-respected IKO referee at national and international events.
Shihan Takiwa is the highest ranked NZ fighter and instructor, and continues to develop his students in the Kyokushin way.
