The new season has started well, as detailed in the race reports below. This letter also includes a full list of event dates for the rest of the year, and some OB rowing news.
Key dates for your diary in 2017 Star Head is on 15th January, Bedford Head on 12th
February and Schools Head on 23rd March. The Friends
of Bedford School Boat Club AGM will be on 1st
February (7pm in the Memorial Hall) and we will be
looking for volunteer(s) to co-chair the Friends for the
next year. The Annual Boat Club Dinner and Awards
Evening will take place on Saturday 18th March in the
Great Hall. Information on how to purchase tickets will
be available early in the Spring term.
New Ergos!
Early this term, funds raised by the Friends of Bedford
School Boat Club were used to purchase four new ergos
for the boys to train on. Thanks to everyone for their
ongoing support!
Bedford Small Boats Head 2016 The Boat Club had a successful day with wins in J18
4x, Novice 4x (pictured below) and Novice 4x+, as
well as a win for Dr Suthers in IM2 1x.
J15, J16 and Senior training camp Boys from the J15, J16 and Senior squads enjoyed a
training camp in Pangbourne during October half-term.
They took part in seven training sessions over the four
days, making the most of some good weather to
improve their technical skills.
Colts row Cambridge Head to Head
In a busy weekend of rowing, two Colts crews
competed at Cambridge and both the J16 VIII and
Novice VIII (pictured below) won their categories.
Meanwhile, the J15s competed at Hampton Small
Boats Head, benefiting from racing competitively
in a variety of crews.
Fours Head of the River
In wet conditions, two Senior crews competed on the
Tideway (pictured below) in early November. The IM2
4+ finished 28th and the Junior 4+ finished 7th,

Star Small Boats Head 2016 The Boat Club had a very successful day with two wins
for the Colts (Novice VIII and Novice 4x+), one win for
the J15s, (pictured below) and three wins for the
Seniors ( IM3 4-, IM3 4x and IM3 4+). There were also
a number of crews close to winning.
Wallingford Head The Seniors competed at Wallingford Head and put in
an impressive performance, finishing 5th from a field
of 25 school crews rowing in various categories.
Indoor house rowing 2016
All year groups competed noisily in a number of side-
by-side races on the ergos in the Great Hall. Victory
went to Paulo by one point from St Cuthbert’s.
Note from Mr Mulkerrins, Director
of Rowing It has been a very promising start to the year for all age
groups, and boys have benefited hugely from the
events they have raced in so far this year.
