Everyone has heard of lemonade stands, right? Kids from across the country make a few pitchers of lemonade and offer a glass for a dollar or two to neighbors passing by their yards on a hot summer day. It’s a great first business to start and learn about profits (more on that later), but is there anything else you can offer to stand out from the lemonade crowd? Watermelon Stand Ice cold watermelon is a hot weather staple. And, not only does it give you a boost of energy, this is a pretty affordable product to sell. Or, if you have one of those classic movie theater poppers, it’ll add major curbside appeal. Order a few packages of nostalgic popcorn containers and you’re all set. The Lemonade Stand Reinvented!Everyone has heard of lemonade stands, right? Kids from across the country make a few pitchers of lemonade and offer a glass for a dollar or two to neighbors passing by their yards on a hot summer day. It’s a great first business to start and learn about profits (more on that later), but is there anything else you can offer to stand out from the lemonade crowd? Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Fruit Infused Water StandInstead of lemonade, try this neat recipe for infused water. It has less sugar and is great for those health conscious customers.

Ingredients (per pitcher)

• 2 Cups of Water

• 2 Cups of Ice

• Hand full of Raspberries, Strawberries, Blueberries, Oranges, Lemons, or limes

• 2 Leaves of Basil and Mint

To make, fill a pitcher with water and ice, then add a handful of your favorite fruit and a few leaves of basil and mint.

Freezie Pop StandOn a hot day, anything cold is sure to be a hit, so break open the freezer and get out the Freezie Pops! Plus, you can also pair the pops with water or juice for double-hydration.

Watermelon StandIce cold watermelon is a hot weather staple. And, not only does it give you a boost of energy, this is a pretty affordable product to sell. Simply slice it up, store in an ice chest and sell a slice of summer.

Popcorn Stand You can make a ton of this movie-night favorite right on your stove in a large pot. Or, if you have one of those classic movie theater poppers, it’ll add major curbside appeal. Order a few packages of nostalgic popcorn containers and you’re all set.

Lemonade stand - continued

Bake Sale StandBake sales are great at school fundraisers; why not bake some yummy treats for a private streetside sale? Any leftovers can be frozen and stashed for a special occasion... if you don’t eat them all!

Temporary Tattoo StandOrder a few dozen of your favorite temporary tattoos, add water and a washcloth, and you’ve got yourself the makings of a very fun roadside pit stop.

Hose Down StandWhen temps start rocketing well over 1000 in much of the u.S., a nice misting of cool water might be worth a few pennies. Have your water hoses stationed down by the street, ready to spray anyone who wants to pay a nickel or two for the instant cool-down. Don’t be surprised if you are soaking wet by the end of this little business venture!

Dog Bath StandStop people taking their dog for a walk and ask if you can give them a bath for a few dollars. It’s a great way to cool down their pet on hot summer days. Plus, you could also get some doggy treats and sell them for an extra fifty cents and make more money!

Money & Banking 101!

What is a profit? As we said, the lemonade stand is a great first business idea to help you earn a few extra dollars. And those extra dollars that you earn is what the business world calls a “profit.”

To figure out your profit, you add up all the money you got from selling your product and then subtract how much it cost to make it.

For example, let’s say you bought a box of 40 Freezie Pops from the store for $10. If you sell each pop for $2, how much profit would you make? Let’s figure it out together.

Step 1: Add up all your sales: Step 2: Subtract your total cost from your total sales:

• Sale #1 = $10 •Sale#6=$12 •TotalSales(fromStep1)=$___________

• Sale #2 = $6 •Sale#7=$6 •TotalCost(ofpopsfromthestore)=$___________

• Sale #3 = $4 •Sale#8=$10 •TotalProfit=$____________

• Sale #4 = $12 •Sale#9=$4

• Sale #5 = $8 •Sale#10=$8

Total Sales = $__________________ 70 $ ofit = r otal P er: T nsw AFun & games!

DIY Bubble PicturesWhat you’ll need:

• Water •1CupperPaintColor

• TemperaPaint •1StrawperCup

• DishSoap •CardstockPaper

In each cup, mix 1/2 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of paint and a few squirts of dish soap. You can add a little more dish soap to make bigger bubbles.

Next, add a straw to each cup and blow into the mixture (make sure to blow and not slurp). It’s just like blowing bubbles in your milk or juice.

Once you have a huge bubble foam on the top of the cup, remove the straw and lay a piece of cardstock paper on top to print the bubbles on the paper. The bubbles will “POP” and create art!
