SHOW ME YOUR FRIENDS AND I’LL SHOW YOUYOUR FUTURE.

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs13:20

The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads themastray. Proverbs 12:26

IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO LIVE THE RIGHTLIFE WHEN YOUHAVE THE WRONG FRIENDS.

Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character .”  1 Corinthians 15:33

TWO THINGS I WON’T LET MY FRIENDS DO

1)DISTRACT ME FROM GOD’S PLAN.

Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." Matthew 16:23 NIV 84

2)CONTINUALLY TEMPT ME TO SIN.

[Potiphar’s wife] caught [Jospeh] by his cloak and said, "Come to bed wit h me!" But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. Genesis 39:12

ONE THING I WON’T STOP DOING

LOVING PEOPLE WITH THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVEOF CHRIST.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love oneanother. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love oneanother.” John 13:34-35

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good

works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people

do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his

return is drawing near.

Be the friend you need to be and talk over today's message with someone.

Here are a few questions to get you started. 1) How has social media affected

your friendships for better or for worse? 2) Do you have the right friends? Are

you getting adequate time with those friends? 3) How present are you in your

friendships? How transparent or open are you? If there is one of these thingsyou need to work on, what is it and what are you going to do about it? For more

FRIENDING — 2

ONE FRIEND AWAY

SHOW ME YOUR FRIENDS, AND I’LL SHOW YOU YOUR FUTURE.

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs

13:20

YOU MIGHT BE ONE FRIEND AWAY FROM CHANGING THE COURSE OF YOUR DESTINY.

When [Saul] came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid

of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. 27  But Barnabas took him and

brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul on his journey had seen the Lord

and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had preached earlessly in the name of Jesus. 28 So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in

Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. Acts 9:26-28

THREE TYPES OF FRIENDS EVERY PERSON NEEDS

SAMUEL: A FRIEND WHO MAKES YOU BETTER.

…Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”13 So Samuel took the

horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the

Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David. 1 Samuel 16:12-13

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17 NLT

JONATHAN: A FRIEND WHO HELPS YOU FIND SPIRITUAL STRENGTH.

While David was at Horesh in the Desert of Ziph, he learned that Saul had come out

to take his life. 16  And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him

ind strength in God. 1 Samuel 23:15-16

NATHAN: A FRIEND WHO TELLS YOU THE TRUTH.

Then Nathan said to David, “You are the man!” 2 Samuel 12:7

An open rebuke is better than hidden love! 6 Wounds from a sincere friend are better

than many kisses from an enemy. Proverbs 27:5-6 NLT

TALK IT OVER

What friend from your past significantly impacted your life?

We need friends who will help us become better, find strength in the Lord and tell us

the truth. What type of friend are you missing?

What is your next step to develop the relationship with the person you need as a

friend? Pray for each other.

YOUR FUTURE.

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs13:20

WHAT CAUSES RELATIONAL POVERTY?

1) INCREASED MOBILITY2) MODERN CONVENIENCES3) A RISE IN SOCIAL MEDIA

YOU ARE ONE COMMUNITY AWAY FROM CHANGINGTHE COURSE OF YOUR DESTINY.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything incommon. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread intheir homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.Acts 2:42-46
