Edward Callahan Pianist and Music Director, New York, NY
Edward Callahan, born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, began piano lessons at age five with Billie Netterwald, who encouraged his interest in classical music, competing regionally through the Music Teachers National Association and the Michigan Music Teachers Association and nationally at the NAACP Act-So competition. He also took piano lessons at Crescendo Academy of Music in Kalamazoo and participated in the Gilmore Piano Camp and early Gilmore for Kids programs that were developed by Rich Ridenour. Callahan attended Western Michigan University as a recipient of the Kalamazoo Promise and served as section leader in the Bronco Marching Band and music director of the WMU Gospel Choir. He moved to New York to work with his mentor, Damien Sneed, and graduated magna cum laude from Nyack College with a degree in piano performance. Callahan maintains an exciting schedule that includes musical theater, choral accompaniment, and serving as a music director and pianist at Creston Avenue Baptist and Abyssinian Baptist Churches. He made his Lincoln Center Debut in 2018. Callahan currently resides in Harlem, New York, and is working on his sophomore album.
William Chapman Nyaho Concert Pianist, Seattle, WA
William Chapman Nyaho grew up in Ghana, West Africa, and earned his degrees from St. Peter’s College, Oxford University, the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Texas at Austin. He also studied at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève, Switzerland. Chapman Nyaho currently serves on the faculty at Pacific Lutheran University and the summer faculty at Interlochen Center for the Arts, and has his private piano studio in Seattle, Washington. As an active solo recitalist, member of the Nyaho/Garcia Duo, chamber musician, and lecturer, his passion is advocating for music of Africa and its diaspora.
Ching-Yun Hu Concert Pianist, Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy, PA
Ching-Yun Hu made her concerto debut at the age of 13 on a tour in Japan and Taiwan. A native of Taipei, she moved to the US at the age of 14 to continue her musical studies at The Juilliard School and the Cleveland Institute of Music. As a passionate educator and keen advocator of classical music, she founded the Yun International Music Festival in Taipei and the Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy (PYPA), which presents the highly-sought PYPA Piano Festival and Young Virtuosi, encompassing intensive recitals, master classes,

and guest lecture series. Her recordings by CAG Records and BMop Sound received critical acclaim, and her latest album, Ching-Yun Hu: Rachmaninoff, released in 2019, is available worldwide digitally on Naxos and Centaur Records. Ching-Yun Hu is a Steinway Artist and serves as an artist in residence and on the piano faculty at Temple University in Philadelphia.
Caroline Oltmanns Professor of Piano, Youngstown State University, OH
Caroline Oltmanns is a Professor of Piano at Youngstown State University, and her students have been accepted into prestigious programs in the US and abroad. She received her early pianistic and artistic conservatory training in her native Germany, based on the Walter Gieseking and Karl Leimer traditions. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Oltmanns is a Fulbright Scholar, International Steinway Artist, a Steinway Spirio Recording Artist, and recipient of substantial awards through the Annette-Kade-Stiftung and the Stipendium der deutschen Wirtschaft. She has recorded six solo CDs on the Filia Mundi label, and her newest concept album, WIND, was recorded in Germany and is scheduled for release in 2021. She recently established 88 Hearts for Youngstown, a fund to support scholarships for piano students. She serves as a screening member of the Cleveland International Piano Competition, and she returns this season as a presenter and performer for Piano Cleveland.
Stephen Pierce Professor of Piano, USC Thorton School of Music, CA
Stephen Pierce enjoys a multifaceted career as a teacher, performer, and scholar. He currently serves as Director of Keyboard Pedagogy and Secondary Piano at the University of Southern California, where he teaches piano major and minor students and courses in keyboard pedagogy and literature. He previously taught at the University of Northern Colorado, Oberlin Conservatory, the Colorado International Piano Academy, and for the Los Angeles International Music Center. He also works with students aged seven and older in his private studio in Pasadena, California. Pierce has performed in the US, Canada, Czech Republic, and South Africa, and his performances have been broadcast on South African television and radio. He is a sought-after adjudicator, has presented master classes and workshops across the US and South Africa, and has given pedagogical presentations at state and national conferences. He regularly publishes articles on teaching and currently serves as editor of CAPMT Connect journal.
