INTERESTING FACTS

Weight gain around this time of year may not be from all the food.

Researchers have found that lack of vitamin D reduces fat breakdown

and triggers fat storage. So, the lack of sunlight has more to do with the

extra gain than all the pumpkin spice lattes. Well, at least some of it.

SPORTS The McCook Lady Bison volleyball team dropped two matches

last night at the MHS gym, falling to Gothenburg and Lexing-

ton. The Bison boys tennis will host Beatrice today and Ger-

ing tomorrow at the Bison and Elks Tennis Courts. The Lady

Bison softball team leaves for Omaha today and the Class B1

district finals vs Omaha Skutt. The Bison football team will

host Holdrege tonight. Pregame coverage on KICX starts at 6

p.m. Southwest will host Arapahoe on 103.9 The Hawk. Pre-

game coverage starts at 2 p.m.

The Nebraska football team worked out in helmets only for

over two hours on Thursday inside the Hawks Championship

Center. Head Coach Scott Frost addressed the media follow-

ing practice to talk about the quarterback situation. “We’re in

a lot better place with the quarterback spot than we were a

year ago this time,” Frost said. “I feel like we’ve got several

guys who know the offense and are talented enough to go

make things happen. We’ll see who’s up there playing, but

we feel good about several guys. The team will rally around

whoever it is.” Frost also commented on sophomore running

back Maurice Washington. Washington was suspended for

the first half of the game against Northwestern last Satur-

day. Maurice has had a good week,” Frost said. “We need

him to be ready to go for a whole game. He obviously makes

us a better team when he’s out there, so we need him out

there more often.” Kickoff on FS1 is set for 6:30 p.m.
