Decoding Viola Spolin's Theatre Games! ~ Ed Reggi [3, 8] Viola Spolin’s writings and philosophy influenced not only American theatre, televi-sion, and film, but the American theatre classroom. But few students and teachers un-derstand how to decode her theatre games. In this workshop, participants will decode the key principles behind Spolin’s theatre games and the critical role the side-coach plays in teaching theatre. Experiencing Yes...And, Give and Take, Emerging Who, and other Spolin theatre games, participants become better acquainted with the most over-looked parts of Spolin’s pedagogy. This workshop is geared for the advanced improv student and/or educator who wants to take a deeper dive into Viola Spolin's theater games.

Vocal Techniques for the Young Singer: Health, Stress and Breathing ~ Chase Moore [2] Please join Director of Musical Theatre and Associate Professor of Music Chase Moore (Eastern Arizona College) to learn about healthy vocal techniques, dealing with stress as you sing, and proper breathing techniques used by professionals today! Mr. Moore has had experience teaching vocal and music performing techniques for such shows as Urinetown: The Musical, Little Shop of Horrors, Grand Night for Signing: Rodgers & Hammerstein Revue, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Along with his work in musicals, Mr. Moore has taught private voice at the collegiate-level and has worked closely with various choirs such as the Women’s Chorale of Eastern Arizona College and the Men of Song chorus, an all-male mass choir representing the music fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha. Batman Stunt Spectacular: You Design the Villain's Lair! ~ Scott Dahl [1] Join Scott Dahl (Eastern Arizona College – Associate Professor of Design and Production) to create a set design of a new “Villain’s Lair” for a Batman Stunt Spectacular! Theme park show. Mr. Dahl designed a series of stunt show set-tings for Six Flags Theme Parks across the United States based on the DC Com-ic characters and updated with the release of each sequel in the Warner Broth-er’s Batman film series. The shows feature pyrotechnics, flying rigs for actors, stunt car & motorcycle sequences as well as scenic building facades and break through walls. In this workshop you will design a new “lair” based on a villain of your choosing! Join Professor Dahl to discuss design process and to develop these new facades to insert into the 3d design model.

Developing Dramatic Design without the Dollars ~ J. David Blatt [1, 8] J.David Blatt brings his 35 years of scenic and lighting design to students and teachers to explore inexpensive ways to conceptualize dramatic environments for live performance

Dialogue ~ Stephen Gregg [5, 6] The number one question that playwriting students ask is: how do I write better dia-logue? The answer is clear and might surprise you. And by learning what makes good dialogue, you can also learn quite a bit about how to construct an entire play.

The Two Types of Plays ~ Stephen Gregg [7, 8] There are really only two types of scenes in playwriting. Once you've learned them, you can write any play you want. Bring something to write with, cause we'll be writing them both.

Stage Managing the Rebellion: Student Training ~ Theresa Howe [5] In order to work with RSP in starting a Children's Theatre with your troupe, all stu-dents wishing to be stage managers must complete training with an RSP representa-tive. This is a great class for anyone who has the desire to stage manage, work in theatre education, start a theatre company, or stretch yourself as a performer/tech by seeing the stage manager's side of a performance. The class will also satisfy half of the stage manager's training requirement through RSP. The rest of the training can be completed online or by inviting an RSP rep to your campus for group training.

This process can get messy—how do actors work to-gether effectively and avoid feeling like “there are too many cooks in the kitchen?”. In this workshop, students create a script from scratch, incorporating helpful strate-gies for effective group collaboration.

Stories that Soar! Live Foley Sound ~ Sean Cronin, Tyane Kuya [7] Bam! Pow! Zoinks! From slapstick fight scenes, to spooky forests, Foley sound got its name in the early days of film, but it has been enriching performances onstage and in film for centuries! In this interactive workshop, students experiment with Foley instruments, and explore sound as a character, before trying their hand as Live Foley Artists!

Using Characters to Develop Strong Stories ~ Michael Gilboe [4, 5] Story is character. Character is story. In this workshop, students will learn elements for creating strong characters, and how to develop story from those choices. Stu-dents participate in a brainstorming session; developing a story from their ideas.

Playwriting/Directing

The Sonnet Man: Hip-Hop Shakespeare Writing Workshop ~ Devon Glover [3, 5, 6, 8] Let’s put Shakespeare into our own words. In the Sonnet Man work-shop, we will be introduced to the Bard’s sonnets in a modern innovative way: through hip-hop. We will study the structure and make up of a Shakespearean (Elizabethan) sonnet: their components, values, and meaning, as well as write our own. The workshop will conclude with presentations of original sonnets written and performed by the attendees.

Finding Your Voice Through Verse ~ Devon Glover [1, 4, 7] Students will learn different methods of creative writing (poetry, hip-hop, storytell-ing, etc.) and how they can be incorporated when writing a story or play. We will discuss several topics, including the difference between verse and prose, and the different ways they could be used when writing a play. We will also discuss the process of writing a script that connects to the writer, writing a role perfect for them. We will conclude with the students forming short plays through verse and creative writing, which will be performed.

Ten minutes to Glory: Writing the Ten-Minute Play ~ Jonathan Dorf [1] Ever since the Actors Theatre of Louisville launched the National Ten-Minute Play Contest, the ten-minute play has become one of the theatre's most popular forms. The haiku of the playwriting world, it's great for festivals and competition, popular with audiences, a great calling card for a new playwright—and it's the easiest play to finish! Ready to write one? This workshop will have you well on the way to creating your new mini-opus.

Playwriting As You Like It ~ Jonathan Dorf [3] Are you struggling with dialogue? Need help coming up with a strong title? Still figuring out what to do with your finished draft? Here's a writing workshop where you choose the lessons that matter most. Come with your list of questions and top-ics and get ready to learn playwriting…as you like it.

How to Write a Mini Musical ~ Helen Mitchell [2] This workshop is designed for students to see on a small scale what goes into the musical writing process. Students will be divided into groups and given materials to compose a musical title and synopsis, song title and background of the song, as well as lyrics and acting to pre-recorded music. The second half of the class will be performance of the piece.

Playwriting: Where Do We Start?? ~ Hadley Singer, Paige Adams [2, 4, 5, 8] Do you like to write? Do you have great ideas you'd like on paper? Specifically in a play format? Come check out this workshop! We'll discuss basic formatting, how to defeat writer's block, and start brainstorming for your next hit show!

Writing For Actors OR Writing for Actors ~ Michael Kary [6] This workshop is designed to bring out the writer in you, or if it's already there, get that writer to better communicate your ideas on the page to actors. Using simple acting techniques, we will learn how to create compelling, coherent scenes with dialogue, dialogue even actors couldn't mess up...well, we can hope, can't we?

Actorbatics: An Introduction to Russian Movement—Carrigan O’Brian [1, 7, 8] Welcome to Droznin, the movement technique taught at the world-renowned Moscow Art Theatre School, and the cornerstone of the National Theater Institute’s movement curriculum. Through a series of rigorous physical exercises, stretches, balance poses and partner acrobatics, students slowly unlock the body, freeing them up for the work they will need to do on stage. All experience levels welcome in this movement workshop. Participants must wear comfortable clothing.

Introduction to Motion Capture Performance ~ Harrison Butler [1, 2, 5, 8] Introduction to motion capture performance is a lecture / rehearsal workshop de-signed to give the attendee an overview of the actor's job on a motion capture set. Attendees will be introduced to the concepts of video game performance capture, terminology in Kinematics work and In-game technical skills that prepare the actor for work in various areas of performance capture. The workshop also explores the business side of motion capture and the secrets to getting cast in this exciting new field of the entertainment industry. This workshop is designed for all levels of abil-ity and interest.

Learn how to do it yourself—a terrific opportunity for both singers and non-singers; improvisers and non-improvisers. Our presenters will walk you through the steps and work-shop your monologues and give you some acting tips to nail your next audition!

Broadway Bootcamp: Dance Auditions! ~ James Gray [6] Audition Broadway-style with the choreography you’ve learned throughout Broad-way Bootcamp!

Auditioning for Improv ~ Mathew Huss [7, 8] Come and experience what an improv audition looks like, In this workshop, you will learn what to expect in an improv audition, while at the same time actually audition-ing for while at the same time audition for the National Comedy theatre House High School League team.

How to Choose the Right Audition Song ~ Helen Mitchell [4, 8] This workshop will focus on how to choose the right song for your audition. The workshop will be broken into two parts: ballads, and uptempo. Emphasis will be on the nature of the production, range of the auditioner, and other criteria to keep in mind when it comes to vocal showcasing, style, and more.

How to Nail Your Vocal Audition ~ Helen Mitchell [7] This workshop will focus on all aspects of how to have a successful audition. Topics covered will be song choice, vocal warmups, where to look, if movement should be added, and more.

Are You Ready for Your Close-Up? On Camera Auditioning ~ Gene Ganssle [2] Learn about commercial auditioning from a Valley professional with over 25 years' experience and commercials running. We'll use real copy and get you on camera for an audition!

How To's of Hollywood Auditions ~ Angela Scates [2] As an aspiring actor in film and TV, you will be asked to walk into an audition room and cold-read from a script, or you may receive the sides to a project just a few hours before your audition. How do you create a backstory and a world for your character to live in if you only know a few lines of the dialogue? Learn how to make strong choices, listen carefully, and fill out your part as honestly as possible in this Cold Reading for Film and TV workshop. This class will pull sides from contemporary TV and film scripts, and teach you how to best present yourself and your character when you walk into the audition room. It will be upbeat, fun, and get your cold-reading chops ready for the world of on-camera auditions!

Energize Your Acting: Techniques of Michael Chekhov ~ Wil Kilroy [1, 2, 5, 6 This active, participatory workshop will guide you in creating unique characters and finding healthy ways to express emotion as a character, all based on the im-aginative techniques of Michael Chekhov - taught by the co-founder of the Na-tional Michael Chekhov Association.

Building Character with Imagination & Body through the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique ~Rebecca Rich Joy [1] Our psychology and bodies are intertwined. The Michael Chekhov Technique is a psycho- physical technique that engages both the body and the mind in devel-oping character through imagination and movement. The workshop is open to any level of experience, from young student to seasoned educator. Any short bit of memorized text (from a monologue, or a poem, or almost any few sentences+) is helpful in applying the technique, but not required. Bare feet, socks or soft-soled shoes and clothing that gives one the ability to move are preferred (but not required).

Emotional Freedom ~ Brynn Lucas [2, 6] This intensive emotional workshop is designed to break through the actors emo-tional walls in a safe place, allowing them to tap into the freedom within oneself. With this freedom the actor gains the ability to give that freedom over to role.

Acting with a Purpose ~ Thomas Underdal [3, 4] Acting with Purpose is a movement based theatre workshop that challenges its participants to us different techniques to build character and create purposeful choices for the stage. Wear clothes that you can move in.

The Liberated Actor—Dylan LaRay Welker [8] In this workshop, students will be introduced to the basics of Body Memory, a physical theatre practice in which the actor’s ingenuity and creativity are brought to the forefront through spontaneous movement and physical expression. This form is designed to give the performer more autonomy on the stage.
