TERM 3 WEEK 8 13th September 2018
SLEEP OVER AND EXCURSION Congratulations to the Room 2, 4, 8 and 9 children and teachers, who were involved in an excursion plus sleep over last Friday. My highlight was our impromptu disco in the gym and I am sure the children all had a fantastic time with many personal highlights.
PEDAL PRIX Best of luck to our Pedal Prix team who will be involved in the 24 hour race at Murray Bridge on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September. This is a world class event, and the team would love to be supported by our school community.
CHOIR In a few weeks our Choir will be performing at the Festival Theatre as part of the Primary School Music Festival. These students have been rehearsing every week since the beginning of the year, having to learn a number of songs as either an Alto or Soprano. Once again thank you to Sharon Raymond and Joy Wildman, our choir teachers, who have worked tirelessly all year. We look forward to the senior choir performing at our Grandparents Day ceremony and end of year picnic.
Part of our reporting process includes offering parents the opportunity to meet with their child’s class teacher.
You are welcome to make a time during the first two weeks of term four. Please contact your child’s teacher if needed.
2019 CLASS PLACEMENTS
We are currently in the process of developing our 2019 class structure and will be looking at class placements during term 4.
To best support students, we take into account friendship groups, gender balance, learning abilities, behavioural and social needs.
We achieve this by consulting the students, staff and parents. Parents are invited to contribute to the class placement process in writing. This is not a forum for choosing a teacher but rather an opportunity for parents to voice particular educational, social and emotional needs.
Please respond via email with the title “2019 class placements” to:
[email protected] or by written note to the front office
2019 ENROLMENTS
We are experiencing a large number of families expressing interest in enrolling at Hahndorf School and Preschool. To assist our planning for 2019 please let us know if your child/ren will not be attending our school next year (excluding current Year 7 students). Please contact Jenny Chapman at the front office as soon as possible.
Also if you are aware of any families whose children are interesting in enrolling at our school or preschool next year, please encourage them to also contact Jenny as soon as possible.

Parents and Hahndorf School Community
We would like to give a very big thank you to everyone for helping us with our soup day. To all the S7 parents that donated soup, sent crock pots of pumpkin soup and helped make the 300 cup cakes or muffins, we are all extremely grateful. We couldn’t have made such a difference to help the farmers without all of your support.
Some students donated $5, $10 and $20 for soup, cakes and some just as a generous donation. Due to all your help, we raised an amazing $1,070 for the farmers.
We also have to acknowledge Coles at Bridgewater who gave us a $60 donation that covered most of the cost of the rolls for the soup. Thank you Coles, we really appreciate your support and help to increase our overall total.
Our class is proud of our efforts, achievements as well as our teamwork. We all put in our best and everyone in the school community made a small difference for a very worthwhile cause.
Again one big thank you!

READERS’ CUP This year, we had two teams entered in the
Adelaide Readers’ Cup competition.
The students had a limited time to read 5
specific novels, “specialising” in 2 of them. At
the end of term 2, we all went to Nairne
Primary and competed against 17 teams from
other hills schools. We answered challenging
questions that really tested our knowledge of
each book. For example, we
had to draw a map of the
journey in the book “Rowan
of Rin”. It was hard but fun –
we had snacks on our tables
to help us through the quiz.
Then we were given a book
of poems called Big Silly,
Little Sensible by Mike Lu-
cas. We had to invent our
own creative presentation based on a favourite poem. Team
1 chose a fairytale poem that ended with a luncheon. They
acted out what might have happened to Cinderella - she was
the lunch! We did well to perform in front of such a large
audience. To make it even more fun, we performed in front of
the author, Mike Lucas. He then presented prizes to the
winners and runners-up. His speech was hilarious!
We thank Matilda Book shop for sponsoring the event and
donating the book vouchers for all the students in winning
teams. We did score well, but didn’t quite make a winning
team! Maybe next year!
PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE (PRC) Congratulations to everyone who read 12 books – (and a lot
more since!) and passed in their completed sheets.
Congratulations to Room 4 and Room S7 – who worked as a
whole team to help each other all finish their reading and
record sheets. Well done! Now we just have to wait while
they make all the certificates and medals. Hopefully by early
November.
BOOK WEEK A fun week in the Resource Centre! Classes shared the
picture books that were judged the best in Australia, and
created lots of interesting works of art around the book
themes. We are still voting to decide Hahndorf’s favourite.
We engaged in Pirate activities and treasure hunts. We also
had a competition to guess treasured books – Each day a
student or teacher nominated their most treasured book. We
gave a clue for the book, and then winners who guessed
correctly were awarded a book prize.

Term 3 Week 8 13th September 2018
On the 31st of August rooms 2, 4, 8 and 9 went on an excursion to Adelaide zoo.
We went to the “Meeting Spot where we learnt about animal’s adaptations and life cycles. Adaptations are things that all animals have that enable them to survive in the wild. Life cycles are the different stages in an animal’s life.
After that we went into the “Envirodome” to look at animals and watch a performance with different animals.
When the show was over we split up into groups and walked around the zoo with our adult. We saw lots of animals like alligators, baboons, gibbons, birds meerkats and more.
On the way back, we went to Morialta playground and stopped for a quick play. When we went back to school we ate pizza for dinner, watched a magic show by the magician Magic Mike, we watched a movie in our sleeping bags then went to sleep at school. We had such a fun time!
