Headteacher’s update
Dear Parents/Carers,
On Monday we celebrated our special ‘Vocations Day’ where we all had lots of fun thinking about how we are called by God to use our gifts and talents to serve others. We were so impressed by the thought and creativity that had gone into the children’s costumes as they arrived as their possible future selves!
We started the day with a whole school assembly led by our Yr 4 leaders who described how they
use their gifts and talents to carry out important roles in school (including School Council, Eco-
Warrior, Librarian and Technical Crew, to name a few!). The children were then involved in a wide
range of activities including a visit from Fr Craig and Ann-Christy Jon (Diocesan Vocations Officer),
a wonderful prayer service led by our KS2 Chaplaincy Team in which the children created aspi-
ration trees and an opportunity to create a future ‘me’! We are really looking forward to dis-
playing all of these in the hall – watch this space!
Our Yr 1 children have had a very exciting time this week as they have welcomed a number of
visitors into school as part of their ‘Fire of London’ topic. On Tuesday they were joined by Zoe from
Freshwater Theatre Company who shared the story of the Fire of London with them through dra-
ma, role play, music and dance. On Thursday they thoroughly enjoyed their visit from Mr Hanra-
han who talked to them about his role as a fire fighter and the importance of fire safety. The
chance to see a real fire engine was a big hit! They also enjoyed exhibiting their superb Fire of
London homework projects for everyone to see – well done Yr 1!
Our KS2 children have also been very busy with their Praise Reward afternoon on Wednesday in
which this half term’s winners, Nazareth, enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt around the school using
clues to decipher an anagram! On Thursday we held our fourth Try Something New Day of the
year where the children had a brilliant time learning a wide range of new skills including cooking
Easter inspired treats, creating mathematical origami, learning all about German culture, trying
their hand at cross stitch, creating high intensity workouts and practising survival techniques in
the ‘Wild Woods’!
Our Yr 4 children are off to the Botanical Gardens today as part of their topic on ‘Rainforests’- we
look forward to hearing all about it on their return.
We enjoyed welcoming parents for our final parents’ evening sessions this week – we hope that
you found the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss their progress useful.
We were delighted to receive the news this week that we have been accredited with ‘ArtsMark
Silver’ status at school in recognition of the high quality arts and culture provision across the
school. We are very proud of the wide variety of opportunities the children get to participate in
art, music and dance both within school and through our many partnerships.
Enjoy the weekend

We are delighted to announce that staff and parents can now access an innovative ONLINE course about children,
worth £39, completely free of charge. Understanding Your Child is put together by the Solihull Approach, an accredit-
ed, evidence based approach established 20 years ago by psychologists, health visitors and other health profession-
als.
The course usually costs £39 per person. However using the coupon code listed below you can access them at
www.ourplace/learn.co.uk where you can register for your own account and revisit the course indefinitely without pay-
ing a penny.
Understanding Your Child is for parents, carers, and professionals caring for children aged 0-18 years. It looks at
brain development, play, styles of parenting, sleep, temper tantrums, communication and more and is based on the
nationally and internationally acclaimed face to face course offered by the Solihull Approach.
“This has been a really valuable experience that in a way will impact on many aspects of my life”
“This course has been an absolutely invaluable gift to me. It has and will change so many aspects of my life. I am
undoubtedly a better parent and more rounded and fulfilled person as a result. Some aspects have literally been like
‘Eureka’ moments to me! I WISH I’d known all this years ago”
“The Solihull Approach course I did made it clear parents don’t need lessons: daily life throws us enough of those.
What we need is the space to step back and observe our children. We need some structured guidance to help us re-
flect on all the factors that make them behave the way they do; some developmental, some circumstantial.”
“I have found the online course very useful. Now, I take time to think more during difficult situations and during argu-
ments with my kids.”
