lots of blank days

October 10 2010 should be the date for new entities for the DXCC list as some of the Netherlands Antilles become independent or

their status changes within the Dutch govern-ment There probably will be 2 deletions and

up to 4 additions Operations from the new entities are being planned now to begin on 101010

In 2011 people in the southern Sudan will

vote on whether to become independent from Sudan If the vote is for independence Southern Sudan could return to the DXCC

List

Good luck tune the dial and listen

This solar charging project was inspired by Jim

Clymer WS6X

So far my solar system is working great The DieHard battery is a sealed AGM type with 3 year warranty

Basically you start with the combined 60 watt

panels wired up to the controller thru a shut-off switch and a 10 amp fuse thats inside the control panel From the output of the control

panel it goes to a 100 amp resetable circuit breaker connected to the positive post of the

battery

Then I just connect a wiring block that has all

the radios wired to the battery I do have a 200 watt inverter if I need to use it for an AC item

I will be adding 2ea 3 12 LCD displays for

voltage from the panels and the battery Also will add an ammeter of the same display size to the circuit Taking a long time to get them

from China Jim Erbe WA6NIF

Irsquom happy to say there are

some new faces taking the

lead with ARES The County

has also made some

changes that we have yet to

see culminate CERT is con-

tinuing the excellent training

with another class this

month SATERN is growing

with in the Salvation Army

We are planning a Birthday Party for ARES later

this month

Lewis Roberts KI6YWX has put his skills to work

and taking the lead on our training His Computer

skills will also benefit in the Administration Ini-

tially he is creating a database with each memberrsquos

training status and updating contact information so

if you havenrsquot filled out a recent application expect

to do so in the near future Next he will be imple-

menting training focused on the basics such as traf-

fic handling and net procedures

Fresno County has been infected with monetary

shortfalls like most of the state and nation This

means an increased interest in various Volunteer

organizations One hurdle we have to clear is that

it also means that an intense game of musical

chairs has been added to the management teams

Some have retired others promoted and new hires

have replaced known contacts The good thing is

that we have a chance to renew our commitments

and new protocols will be engaged Irsquom hoping to

expand on this next month

CERT is continuing their 911 classes to add to their

over 800 trained graduates This class will start 21

September For more information contact Citizen-

CorpsFresnogov This is a great basic awareness

course and a must have if you want to do more

than radio during a disaster

The Fresno Salvation Army is expanding and is

finding that during a disaster an understanding of

SATERN and a reserve will be needed in the case of

an extended event To rectify this interested per-

sons are in the process of earning their Technician

Licenses They are discovering a whole new world

that was not apparent to them prior to this class I

personally find it gratifying to see the wide-eyed

response The Salvation Army is also offering a

Disaster training class on the 18th of September

For information contact Captain Dwaine Breazeale

KG6SYA

dwainebreazealeuswsalvationarmyorg

We are having a Party You are invited to come

see the operation at the Citadel and celebrate 75

years of ARES We will be on the air as K6CME and

will have some informational forums that you can

participate in and learn from There will also be

cupcakes This will be 25 September from 9 AM to

1 PM All are welcome non-hams as well Come

and see what ARES and EmComm are all about

For more information infofresnoarescom

The ARRL is revamping the ARECC Level 1 course

to be out after December It is no longer being of-

fered online however we can still certify Level 1

completions locally We will then be offering our 3rd

Level 1 Class in November The date is yet to be

established and will be tailored within reason

This is a description of how I built my first wire an-tenna using 450 ohm window line The idea was to make an antenna that I would be able to use on both the 40 meter and 20 meter bands using my limited knowledge of antenna building electronics and sol-dering I wanted to use the antenna in the phone sec-tion of the two bands

The first thing I did was to purchase 100 feet of the 450 ohm window line wire

Next was to cut it in two equal 34 12 foot sec-tions I intentionally cut it longer than what I thought it should be to allow for tuning I then stripped the insulation from one end of both 34 12 foot sections of the wire Then I twisted the two exposed wires together I purchased a center insulator to attach the two sides of the antenna One 34 12 oot section would attach to each side of the insulator and 50 ohm coax would be used to feed the window line antenna I am using 50 ohm coax to feed it to more closely match the 52 ohm impedance of the inverted V

I then placed the twisted ends through the eye of the insulator And twisted the wire braid from the insulator and the antenna together

OK This is where you may get a little chortle as my soldering skills might not be very goodbut each wire was soldered to the braid and a good connection was confirmed with an ohm meter reading I then wrapped the soldered wire connections in black pvc electrical tape The outside layer of the electrical tape was the coated with a light coat of PVC cement The PVC cement melts the tape and makes for a kind of heat shrink wrapping The picture above was taken afer the cement had dried completely

HOW DOES IT WORK

Well I havent raised it up the push-up pole just yet I plan on doing that in the next week or so I will update this site as I get it up and tuned After some research I will be tuning the longest wire first (40m) and then the 20m Check back here for updates Of course your comments are wel-come and appreciated Just CLICK HERE to send me an email

We are having a Party You are invited to come

see the operation at the Citadel and celebrate 75

years of ARES We will be on the air as K6CME and

will have some informational forums that you can

participate in and learn from There will also be

cupcakes This will be 25 September from 9 AM to

1 PM All are welcome non-hams as well Come

and see what ARES and EmComm are all about

For more information infofresnoarescom

The ARRL is revamping the ARECC Level 1 course

to be out after December It is no longer being of-

fered online however we can still certify Level 1

completions locally We will then be offering our 3rd

established and will be tailored within reason

September For more information contact Citizen-

course and a must have if you want to do more

than radio during a disaster

The Fresno Salvation Army is expanding and is

finding that during a disaster an understanding of

SATERN and a reserve will be needed in the case of

an extended event To rectify this interested per-

sons are in the process of earning their Technician

Licenses They are discovering a whole new world

that was not apparent to them prior to this class I

personally find it gratifying to see the wide-eyed

response The Salvation Army is also offering a

Disaster training class on the 18th of September

Well I havent raised it up the push-up pole just yet I plan on doing that in the next week or so I will update this site as I get it up and tuned After some research I will be tuning the longest wire first (40m) and then the 20m Check back here for updates Of course your comments are wel-come and appreciated Just CLICK HERE to send me an email

their status changes within the Dutch govern-ment There probably will be 2 deletions and

up to 4 additions Operations from the new entities are being planned now to begin on 101010

In 2011 people in the southern Sudan will

vote on whether to become independent from Sudan If the vote is for independence Southern Sudan could return to the DXCC

We are having a Party You are invited to come

see the operation at the Citadel and celebrate 75

years of ARES We will be on the air as K6CME and

will have some informational forums that you can

participate in and learn from There will also be

cupcakes This will be 25 September from 9 AM to

1 PM All are welcome non-hams as well Come

and see what ARES and EmComm are all about

The ARRL is revamping the ARECC Level 1 course

to be out after December It is no longer being of-

Well I havent raised it up the push-up pole just yet I plan on doing that in the next week or so I will update this site as I get it up and tuned After some research I will be tuning the longest wire first (40m) and then the 20m Check back here for updates Of course your comments are wel-come and appreciated Just CLICK HERE to send me an email

finding that during a disaster an understanding of

I will be adding 2ea 3 12 LCD displays for

voltage from the panels and the battery Also will add an ammeter of the same display size to the circuit Taking a long time to get them

from China Jim Erbe WA6NIF

means an increased interest in various Volunteer

have replaced known contacts The good thing is

that we have a chance to renew our commitments
