Textbook : Present Yourself 2, Viewpoints by Steven Gershon (Cambridge University Press, 2009). You will need your textbook beginning the second week of classes.
Objectives : The aim of this course is to help you discuss and present your ideas in English effectively. Presenting your ideas to a group is an important life skill.
You will:
Practice and improve your English presentation skills. Build confidence and overcome difficulties in giving presentations, such as stage fright. Improve grammar use and presentation organization and delivery. Utilize effective body language, eye contact, and pronunciation.
Evaluation:
Participation 30% (in class activities, homework, mini-presentations) Attendance 10% Writing Evaluation 5% Writing Quizzes 10% Midterm Project 20% Final Project 25%
Attendance : Every class is important. You should try to come to every class. If you miss 6 classes in the semester, you will fail the course. If you are more than 5 minutes late, you are marked late. Three late marks equal one
class absence. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will lose 1 point. After 30 minutes, you will
lose 2 points (same as being absent) If you are absent, please bring an official excuse paper to the Language Center office in
Room 207. It is your responsibility to get notes, study material from your classmates, and do any
homework you missed.
Participation:
It is very important you work hard and attend every class. In order to get a high participation score you must: Try your best to speak English only in class. Ask questions when you need help or do not understand. Assist and cooperate with your classmates. Join in activities enthusiastically. Come prepared to class and complete all homework. Bring your textbook, notebook, and pen(s) to every class.
Projects:
You will make two major presentations. More information about each will be provided in class.

Daily Schedule:
Classes will focus on brainstorming ideas and creating an outline for a presentation. We will also focus on the introduction, body, and conclusion of a presentation, and listening to model presentations.

Week 5 Unit 3: Dream Vacations (continued)
Week 6 Unit 4: How the World Works.
Week 7 Unit 4: How the World Works. Rehearsal for Mid-term.
Week 8 Mid-term Project Evaluation.
Week 9 Unit 5: In My Opinion.
Week 10 Unit 5: In My Opinion (continued).
Week 11 Mini-presentations Based on Unit 5; Writing 1st Draft.
Week 12 Rewriting 1st Draft; Final Writing Test, Unit 2: Young People Today.
Week 13 Unit 2: Young People Today (continued).

I hope you enjoy this class. I know speaking in front of people makes almost everyone
nervous. I will try best to create a friendly and relaxed class atmosphere. Have fun and
