COLLEGE OPTIONS FOR STUDENTS DURING HIGH SCHOOL

• Students who wish to pursue college before completing four years of high school may apply for Advanced Placement courses and/or College Credit Plus.

• This may allow qualified students to receive college credit while in high school.

• A student may attend college full time or take some courses at the high school and some courses at a college.

• Many college courses are available at WHS through adjunct professors or online with a support teacher.

Page 23: Freshman and Parents Night for Class of 2020

• The courses are available to qualified, academically talented students. • The curriculum content of these courses is such that, upon completion of the

Advanced Placement course, students will be prepared to take the nationally administered Advanced Placement Examinations in May.

• According to their performance on the examination, student may receive credit for college course work or advanced course placement for each examination.

• Students are responsible for the full cost of each AP exam they take. • Weighted credit will be awarded for AP courses completed at WHS. If you drop

an AP class, you do not get a weighted grade.

The following AP courses are being offered during the 2015-2016 school year (please note class offerings may change from year to year based on minimum enrollments in

the course):

AP English AP Calculus AB AP Calculus BC AP Physics AP Government AP Psychology AP Studio Art

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

College Credit Plus (CCP)• These are specific classes in which students may earn both high school credit

and college credit. • CCP classes are taught by Washington High School teachers who have been

approved by a local college or university for adjunct professor status or as support teacher of Stark State online courses.

• These classes follow a specified college syllabus which meets both college curriculum goals and high school graduation standards. Students will qualify for CCP by meeting entrance guidelines of the selected college or university and Washington High School.

• One 3 hours college class is the equivalent to a 1 credit class at WHS. CCP and AP courses are weighted the same with the exception of embedded courses in Career Technical Education classes.

• All text books purchased by Massillon City Schools must be returned to Massillon City Schools or the student will be charged.
