Examine Your Objectives What aspects of study abroad are important to you--courses, locale,

cultural experiences, learning a language, opportunity to participate in internship or service learning, travel?

Primary Program Considerations Where would you like to study? What is your foreign language ability? How long do you want to stay—a semester, a summer, a year, a short-term? How much does the program cost? Will you need financial assistance to carry out your plans? (Most regular financial aid

may be applied to the cost of IPFW/IU/Purdue study abroad programs, but may not always apply to programs sponsored by other institutions.)

Academic Considerations Does your GPA meet the requirement? Do you want to take classes in English or the local language? Do you have specific degree requirements to fulfill while overseas? What do departmental advisors think of your plans?

Would you prefer to study with other Americans, students of the host country and other international students, or with a combination of both?

Do you want a study abroad program to arrange your housing, meals, curriculum and travel or would you prefer to make these arrangements yourself?

Third-Party Provider Programs- programs organized by agencies specializing in international education (ISEP-Direct, Arcadia, CIEE, IES, IFSA, DIS, etc.). Application, payment, and organized through provider. Financial aid can be applied to these program costs, and credits will transfer. Programs are available for the summer, semester or academic year. Cost: pay the program fees directly to the co-sponsor. comprehensive program

Advanced: Fribourg Switzerland is very strong in law, philosophy, and theology, emphasizing European law, comparative religions, and philosophies.

Arabic Programs

Morocco: 1-2 Arabic Lang & Cult + English: Business Administration, Science and Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences . Of special interest are courses in history and political science that focus on North Africa and the Middle East.

UAE: AUS is also a unique place to study Middle East culture which is why Exchange and Direct students are encouraged to look at Middle East studies courses that are spread across disciplines

Japanese Programs Beginner: Chukyo University or Nihon University -

Mishima. Nihon-Mishima offers a variety of international relations courses taught in English, recommended as a supplement to Japanese language coursework. Chukyo offers a genuine immersion experience and is for self-motivated and independent students that want to improve their Japanese

Intermediate: Toyo University. Toyo's language and culture courses follow a calendar similar to the U.S. academic calendar and requires one semester of Japanese language experience. Toyo only accepts full-year placements.

Advanced Ritsumeikan University conducts an immersion program- numerous courses in Japanese language and culture, utilizing the extensive historical and cultural resources of the ancient city of Kyoto. The program also offers courses in English regarding both Japan-related and business subjects.
