Demonstrate Albany PlanYou are from Massachusetts Colony. You don’t like the French but you REALLY don’t like South Carolina. They have slaves
and you hate slavery. You don’t want to work with them.
Demonstrate Albany PlanYou are from South Carolina Colony. You don’t like the
French but you REALLY don’t like Massachusetts. They are trying to end slavery and you need slaves to run your
plantations. You don’t want to work with them.
Demonstrate Albany PlanYou are from Virginia. You don’t like the French but you
REALLY don’t like Rhode Island. They are Catholics and you hate their religion. You don’t want to work with them.
Demonstrate Albany PlanYou are from Rhode Island. You don’t like the French but you
REALLY don’t like Virginia. They are only interested in making money and they have killed Catholics like you. You
don’t want to work with them.
Demonstrate Albany PlanYou are from Georgia Colony. You don’t like the French but
you REALLY don’t like New York. They are loud and obnoxious and they think your colony is made up of a bunch of
criminals. You don’t want to work with them.
Demonstrate Albany PlanYou are from New York. You don’t like the French but you
REALLY don’t like Georgia. They are all criminals and debtors. You don’t want to work with them.
Demonstrate Albany PlanYou are Benjamin Franklin
You can see that the French are going to kill all the colonists if they win this war. You have a plan to but you need the colonists to stop fighting each other and work together.
You’ve come to this convention and you’re trying to get them to stop arguing and listen
Cut out the strips, attach them to desks. Have students take on the role of the delegates to the Albany Convention. 1 student
will be Franklin. Encourage arguing. Explain this was the way it was and why it failed.
