What is GPS in the Freight Industry• A device that fits into either the truck or trailer and captures the GPS location
information apart from other vehicle information at regular intervals to a central server.
• Other information can include:• Fuel amounts, engine temperature, door open/close, tire pressure, battery
status, cumulative idling, computed odometer, engine RPM, throttle position, GPRS status and a lot more.
• The expansion of telematics and electronic onboard recording devices (EBOR) along with the ability to transmit data over cellular networks vs. satellite networks has allowed for the expansion of information to become endless.

Driver Routing and Job Management• Better visibility and control via technology increases operational flexibility.
• Disruptions and delays, realized soon enough, can be communicated and managed to avoid significant impact to the carriers customers.
• The opportunity to respond more rapidly to priority changes, as with diversion of en route shipments.

Activity Monitoring• Increase the efficiency of stops and improve supply chain communication
through Automated Workflow messages, which are generated automatically based on a geo-fence that's created around a location or event.
• Lower overall communication costs and increase dispatcher effectiveness with communications and reporting based on exceptions in addition to or in place of traditional time-based communications, e.g. hourly updates.
• Increase efficiency of automated paper-based manifest processes. Through automated carrier workflow, load and route information is automatically delivered to the driver upon arrival through an automated manifest that is integrated with your dispatch system.
• Simplify driver interaction with onboard trip management, which allows drivers to view trips, stops, and actions for each stop.

Future of GPS
Enhanced Efficiency
Enhanced Safety
Enhanced Security
Enhanced Sustainability
BST MANAGEMENT LTD. | Br inging Agil ity to the Suppl y Chain
Enhanced Efficiency• A more efficient transportation system.
• Port Metro Vancouver’s Drayage GPS Dashboard.

Enhanced Safety• A safer transportation system.
• A reduction in drivers ‘job stress’ has been recognized as devices now track metrics and activities automatically what drivers used to have to calculate by hand.
• A 12% reduction in total logbook violations and a corresponding 12% decline in out of service (OOS) tallies linked to hours of service (HOS) violations over the past several years as EOBR usage has increased.
• The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) noted that out of the 48,815 North American Standard Level 1 inspections conducted during its 25th annual Road check inspection blitz, just 22.4% of vehicles and 3.9% of drivers were placed out of service (OOS) – the second lowest level ever achieved over the past quarter century.

Enhanced Security• A more secure transportation system.
• The technology also exists to attach pill-sized tracking devices to cargo itself.

Enhanced Sustainability• Fuel efficiency reduces costs, and greenhouse gas and air emissions
• Idling: Idling wastes fuel, increases costs and emits greenhouse gases. Avoid idling
• Route planning: Route planning ensures that delivery vehicles are used to capacity, eliminates unnecessary driving, and can help avoid traffic snags.
• GPS systems and route planning software allow for strategic scheduling while mapping and planning efficient routes.

Why Freight Companies Invest in GPS ?• Increased efficiency and productivity, often thought of as cost reduction
benefits.
• Improved reliability and service quality, usually thought of as tools to retain good customers and grow market share and revenue.
• Derive productivity benefits in industries that depend on freight transportation.
• Reduced environmental effects of freight transport.
