NAME

Clamp Charger™

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The Charger is clamped to a stable surface or post. By

cranking the handle, human energy is harvested from the

user. This energy is converted into electricity and made

available to power products. The electrical output is regulated

to a factory pre-set voltage, generally 12V DC but this can

be customer specified to almost any value. The charger is

equipped with an LED charge level indicator that illuminates

once the minimum crank speed is reached. The handle can

be turned in both directions and the faster the handle is

turned the higher the level of power generated. The power

output cable can be fitted with a wide range of connectors,

as specified by the customer.

An ideal portable backup power supply for small electronicproducts. FreeCharge ensures that users will always be able

to make that emergency call, get a GPS location fix, or just

listen to a few more songs on an MP3 player.

POWER SOURCE

Power System: AC alternator driven by the crank via a transmission.

Dissimilar transmission materials provide improved gear

meshing and wear characteristics.

Output:Standard cigarette lighter socket

12V nominal, 14.2V regulated maximum (other customised

outputs, eg with product specific parameters are available by

special order).

The output current is generally determined by the recipient

device specifications. If the device allows it, currents of up

to 800mA are available if the FreeCharge is cranked

energetically enough.

TYPICAL PERFORMANCE

Mobile Phones

For mobile phone applications talk time performance from the

FreeCharge is influenced by several factors. These include

phone make and model, network provider signal strength,

handset battery condition, duration and effort of winding and

the characteristics of the cigarette lighter adaptor used.

It is recommended that a minimum of 3 minutes winding be

applied before the phone is used. Generally, about three

minutes of talk time per minute of winding is achievable.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The Lifeline Encore radios are highly dependable self-powered

and solar radios, with an MP3 playback option, designed

for a range of applications in both the developed and

POWER SOURCE

Self-Charge A large glass-reinforced nylon handle with comfortable knob


connected to the high efficiency 3-phase alternator via a

rugged transmission. Spur gears co-moulded with dissimilar

materials give optimum gear meshing.

The alternator has an 8W to 10W (electrical, continuous)

rating, which is double the power generated by the average

user. Over-vigorous winding will not damage the radio and in

fact all the generated power will be conserved and stored.

Solar Panel

Both integrated and external solar panel options are available.

A polycrystalline 5V 30mA solar panel is integrated into the

rear of the radio. An optional accessory 5V 50mA solar panel

with a 2-metre nylon-filament-reinforced cord attaches to the

rear quadrant of the radio for storage.

Power Management

A rechargeable NiMH 3 or 4 cell battery pack stores energy.

An automatic low-voltage cut-out senses when the battery

has reached a low discharge state and isolates the battery

from its load. This prevents a damaging over-discharge of the

battery. The radio will play for approx 30 minutes (minimum) at

normal volume per 30-second wind at 130 RPM

LIGHTING

The Encore has an optional lighting feature. Two ultra-bright

LEDs are fitted into lenses in the frequency window. When

switched on these LEDs illuminate an area in front of the radio

for tasks or reading.

MOBILE PHONE CHARGING

The radio’s power generation system may be used to charge

a mobile phone. This power output can be configured to

standard USB, or to generic 6V 400mA, current limited phone

protocols.

OTHER CHARGING OPTIONS The radio may be recharged by a DC adaptor. The radio may

also be used to power or recharge another device.

The Tuf radio is a rugged, robust self-powered solar radio,flashlight & emergency phone charging combination designed

specifically for emergency preparedness kits and for use in

disaster relief management.

POWERSOURCE

SolarPanelPoly-crystalline solar panel, 5V 30mA, with solar charging

indication. This serves to play the radio or to charge its batter-

ies without having to wind.

USB The Tuf may also be fully recharged via a standard USB cable.

A rechargeable 3,6V NiMh rechargeable battery pack stores the energy generated from human and solar power.
