Wizards of the Coast

A Galaxy Command campaign is all abouttoys.

The starships, the droids, the energy pistolsand the photon torpedoes define this sci-fi sub-genreas much, if not more than the plot. The star-spanningcommand has an assortment of technologicalwonders to share with its member worlds, and theheroes need all these technological marvels to beatback wave after wave of indomitable WARSTARjuggernauts.

This short sourcebook spotlights thefuturistic weapons approved for use by GalaxyCommand’s heroes and adventurers. Several ofthese weapons first appeared in the GalaxyCommand campaign setting, or either the SpaceMafia or Adorable Avenger sourcebooks, and arecollected here for the first time. A few new weaponshave made their way into this quick, useful andcompletely free sourcebook.

Ranged Weapons

Shows like Space Academy were reluctantto show a lot of violence. Maybe it was a politicalconcern; probably it had more to do with the factthey didn’t want to have to pay a stuntman tomock up a fist fight. Bigger budget prime-timeshows like Star Trek weren’t shy about showing apunch or three, but for the most part, the heroesand enemies of pulp sci-fi solved things with adazzling variety of fancy energy pistols.

Amnesia Wand This small golden cylinder is studded withpsychoactive yahn crystals. This psychoactiveweapon directly affects the target’s mind, weakening their intellect, making concentration andmemory difficult and sabotaging abstractreasoning.

Special: Anyone struck by the weapon’sgolden beam suffers a -4 circumstance penalty onall skill checks for 12 hours after the strike. Acharacter can’t be affected again by this weaponuntil the effects of the previous shot wear offcompletely. This is a mind-influencing effect.

Special: This weapon’s effects are resolvedas a Ranged Touch Attack.

Atom Cracker Heavy RifleThis massive device is only used by the

strongest, genetically engineered troops. The deviceresembles an old combustion engine more than amodern energy weapon, with four piston-likedevices, two on either size of the barrel, which pumpin and out as the weapon power cycles.

Special: This armor is designed to unleashthe atomic energy stored within heavily armoredtargets. On a successful hit, the atom cracker’starget suffers additional damage equal to its NaturalArmor or Equipment Bonus to Defense/AC. Thisweapon is usually only deployed to take downmecha, constructs, armored vehicles and other suchtechnological adversaries.

4Cryogenic Pulse CrystalThe Cryogenic Pulse Crystal is a Proximite

weapon. This fist sized blue-white crystal is veinedwith luminous golden circuitry and is carved into arough pyramid shape. Held in a fist, it responds tothe user’s thoughts, and fires a beam of lethal cold.

Special: A target struck by the cryo pulsefrom this weapon is encased in a sheet of ice. Thetarget must succeed at a REF Save (DC 10 + ½ thedamage inflicted) or be entangled for 1d6 roundsafter the shot by sheets of ice. The ice melts if thetarget suffers any fire damage.

Diplomacy PistolThis unusual, wand like silver weapon is

carried as a standard sidearm by all Pacificianambassadors and Adorable Avengers. Unlike Unlikemost weapons, this psychoactive device aims todefuse and de-escalate conflicts, using soothingsonic pulses and euphoria inducing psychic viruses.

Special: The gun’s user receives a +4equipment bonus against anyone she successfullystrikes with this weapon, as the victim is slightlymore receptive to her words. This bonus remains for1 hour after a target is hit. This is a mind-influencingeffect.

Special: This weapon’s effects are resolvedas a Ranged Touch Attack.

Deckard-74 Ion PistolThis heavy, long barreled pistol was

designed by android-hunters long before the GreatRobot Liberation. Though an older model, and muchheavier than modern weapons, it still does its jobwell.

Special: This weapon does double damageto Constructs (including Star Droid), FullConversion and Light Reconstruction Cyborgs, aswell as any character with more than five cyberneticimplants of any type or mostly robotic characterssuch as Synths.

Defender-1000The sleek Defender pistol is the standard

sidearm of Galaxy Command. This angular, blackand grey pistol can be set switched between lethaland stun settings with a simple click of a button, andat its full power setting can vaporize plate steel.

Special: The Defender can be set for eitherlethal or subdual damage. Switching between modesis a standard action. When set for stun, it not onlyinflicts subdual damage, but anyone struck by thebeam must succeed at a FORT save (DC 10 + ½the subdual damage inflicted) or be paralyzed forone round from neural trauma.

Special: When set for lethal damage, theDefender-1000 ignores the first 5 points of hardnessor non-magical Damage Reduction in a target.

Encephlo-Rifle The Encephlo-Rifle is a Galaxy Command

weapon commonly issued to Galactic Marshals, as away to capture dangerous criminals without killing. Itis also commonly issued to xeno-biology teams, sothey can anesthetize and examine alien animals froma safe distance. This well made, finely machinedenergy rifle is always considered a masterworkweapon, and provides the shooter with a +1masterwork bonus to attack and damage rolls.

Special: This long barreled, sniper-like rifledeals only subdual damage. In addition to thesubdual damage inflicted, the target must succeed ata FORT Save (DC 12 + ½ the subdual damageinflicted) or fall unconscious for 1d4 hours, or untilshaken awake.

Gunbuster Blaster This weapon somewhat resembles a

traditional pistol, but fires a gelatinous shell filled withunique nanites. The barrel is short and blunt, and isringed with decorative, multicolored bands whichrecall the ring-system of the Pacifician homeworld.

Special: If this weapon hits a target, allpowered ranged weapons worn or carried by that

Page 5: Free20 Command Armory

target become nonfunctionalfor 1d4 rounds. Otherwise, the soft, rubbery shell doesno damage as it burstsagainst the target. This effecthas no effect on muscle-powered ranged weaponssuch as bows, crossbows,or thrown weapons. It canhowever, nullify energy weapons andballistic weapons of virtually any other type.

Special: Only a Pacifician human charactercan use this weapon. The gun’s artificial intelligencewill not fire if wielded by another species. Theweapon can be hacked with a DC 28 ComputerUse check to modify it for use by other species.

Hiawathian Energy BowThis modern version of a traditional hunting

weapon has only become popular amongHiawathians within the last century or so. The energybow fires packets of neon plasma rather thanarrows, giving it tremendous stopping power.

This greenish alloy weapon uses amagnetized metallic bow string to generate energy topower the laser system built into the bow’s curvingshaft. As a result, the archer adds his STR modifierto the energy damage inflicted with a successful hit.

HungergunThe Pacifician populace dislikes this

weapon, though it is carried by most Pacificianheroes. Using a Hungergun is too close to activelyharming another life form for Pacifician tastes. Thetiny Hungergun is designed to fit into the palm of awoman’s hand. Its small size grants its user a +2circumstance bonus on Sleight of Hand checksmade to conceal the weapon.

Special: This weapon causes intense hungerin the targets, making the unfortunate victims feel ifthey are on the verge of starvation. Targets struck bythis weapon field become fatigued, and alreadyfatigued victims become exhausted. The effects

fade 1d4 hours after leaving the field’s area of effect;during the hunger state, most victims will gorgethemselves to the point of illness if the opportunitypresents itself.

Special: A Hungergun’s effects are resolvedas a Ranged Touch Attack. This weapon has noeffect on some one fully enclosed in an airtightstructure, vehicle, armor or spacesuit, nor oncreatures who do not need to eat.

6Tal-Anon Raptorix

The Raptorix is a thrown weapon, resembling a razor edged discus, forged from lightbut strong alloys unique to the Tal-Anon homeworld. The Raptorix was designed to bring down birds onthe wing, but its nearly monomolecular edge makesit a great, if unconventional weapon against lightlyarmored targets. A slice from the Raptorix can easilyopen a human’s arteries.

The Raptorix is a boomerang-like weapon. The thrower can catch the weapon after a rangedattack roll, either successful or not, as a swift actionat the end of her turn.

Tracker GunThis massive energy weapon is mounted on

a servo frame worn over the shooter’s armor.Capable of laying down withering fire, the TrackerGun is commonly issued to the largest and mostpowerful guys in a Galactic Marshall squad, andonly when heavily armored or dug-in resistance isexpected.

It requires a STR score of 16+ to use aTracker Gun effectively. Users with a lower STRscore suffer a -4 penalty on ranged attacks with thisweapon, in addition to non-proficiency penalties ifthose apply.

While wielding a Tracker Gun, the shootersuffers an additional -2 armor check penalty, whichstacks with additional armor check penalties, if any.The wielder’s maximum DEX bonus can be set atno higher than +1.

Tracker Guns provide users with the properSTR a +2 bonus on aimed single shot attack rollswith this weapon. Using a Tracker Gun in full automode imposes no penalty due to the weapon’ssuperior gyro-stabilization.

Melee Weapons

Galaxy Command’s heroes trust a goodblaster by their side. For the most part, the age ofmartial weapons is a distant memory, but there are afew holdouts who still wield the ancient weapons oftheir race with pride and skill.

Hiawathian Crook-AxeThis traditional weapon is a heavy, long

hafted axe with a curving, S-shaped blade. The longhandled weapon can be used to hack with its sharpedge, or hook an adversary’s hoof (or leg) with theaxe’s blunt inner curvature. Hiawathian hunters wearthis weapon strapped to their backs, and are quiteadept at using it to break the ankles of the horse-likequattha striders which form a core part of theirrace’s diet.

Urlok Ice SpearThis jagged, twisted hunting spear is nearly

fifteen feet long, and sized for an Urlok’s powerfulhand. The Ice Spear has an iron core; a blade ofchemically hardened, pale blue native wood twinesaround the shaft; chemical reactions within thestrange wood reduce temperatures more efficientlythan a liquid nitrogen bath. Ice crystals form alongthe length of the blade, and the weapon steams innormal temperatures. Urlok hunters have used theice spear to bring down game (or to win glory inwarfare) since the dawn of their history.

Special: In any area where the ambienttemperature is at least 100 degrees F, the IceSpear’s cold generating properties fail, and theweapon delivers piercing damage rather than cold, until it is removed from the hot environment.
