AcademicsWhere You Learn

IN THE CLASSROOM:

Our classes are small (average class size is 14), active, & engaged.

IN THE FIELD FOR RESEARCH:UMPI students work alongside faculty scientists on cutting-edge research, often traveling to & participating in professional conferences.

I never imagined I’d be doing this level of research during my

freshman year. I’ve been working on a project that identifies and

compares genes in pathogens that are resistant to antibiotics. It’s

exciting to know that this research will have a direct impact in the

world of antibiotic health.”

LYDIA TILLEY ’20MEDICAL L ABORATORY TECHNOLOGY & BIOLOGY MAJOR

IN THE COMMUNITY WITH INTERNSHIPS & PROJECTSYour UMPI education will introduce you to the professional community — to develop skills & establish connections.

How You LearnOur goal is proficiency, meaning we want students to deeply know the course content, and we’ll work with them to maximize learning.

From my first day at UMPI, everything clicked. I felt relaxed, so I

opened up. That has a lot to do with the professors. They make

you want to contribute. They make you feel safe and supported.”

See Your Future, the Way It Should Be

Before I finished my degree, I was hired as a long-term substitute

teacher at a school in my hometown. UMPI was great! They helped me

work it out so I could take the job and complete my student teaching at

the same time.”

I was introduced to the field of Glacial Geology at UMPI and that sent

me down my path. My advisor connected me to a summer research

opportunity in Mongolia and now I’m getting my Master’s in Glacial

Geology. UMPI has amazing research opportunities and faculty — they

help students get out in the field and build real experience.”
