I’m Jane Ellen Felchuk and I’m asking for your vote for re-election to the North Judson TownCouncil on November 5th. After two terms I would be grateful to carry on with my fellowCouncil members who are working to grow our community and move forward in a proactive, fiscally responsible manner. I support the Town’s current infrastructure improvements proj-ects to upgrade our water, sewer, and storm water systems; an ADA ramp and sidewalk proj-ect now fully funded through INDOT grants; sidewalk improvement grants to start in 2021 or2022 including the construction of new sidewalks along Talmer Avenue; continue mainte-nance and improvement of Town-owned property; enforcement of ordinances for privateproperty upkeep; the Town’s first comprehensive plan; participation in the Constellation ofStarke Regional Stellar Communities Program. I’m looking to carry on with our uncondition-al support for our Fire, Police and Utilities departments as they do the best they can to beas responsive as possible to our residents every day. Personally, I spearheaded the currentanimal ordinance, developed a committee for establishing a dog park, continued the reno-vation of the stone terraced area across from the Methodist Church, the repair of the clockat Grand Central Station on Lane Street, as well as landscaping upkeep and improvementprojects at the downtown gazebo, the Police Department and Public Library flower bedsamong other future opportunities for beautification.I welcome your ideas and concerns and can be contacted through the Town Hall or right athome. My husband and I have lived in North Judson for 50 years, raised our daughter hereand been active in the early Mint Festival, Kiwanis, Methodist Church, 4-H, and the AmericanLegion. My husband retired from Thermo Products and I retired after 38 years as the LibraryDirector here in Town. It’s my hope that these few thoughts can show you the dedication I have to our Town, thecommitment I have towards improving our future, and that I’m ready to work hard to earnyour vote November 5th.

VOICE YOUR OPINION! DON’T FORGET TO VOTE, NOV. 5TH

HALLOWEEN SAFETY ON AND OFF THE ROADKids love the magic of Halloween: Trick-or-treating, classroom parties and trips to aneighborhood haunted house. But for moms and dads, often there is a fine line betweenHalloween fun and safety concerns, especially when it comes to road and pedestriansafety.

In 2017, 7,450 pedestrians died in traffic or non-traffic incidents, according to InjuryFacts. Non-traffic incidents include those occurring on driveways, in parking lots or onprivate property.

NSC research reveals almost 18% of these deaths occurred at road crossings or inter-sections. Lack of visibility because of low lighting at night also plays a factor in thesedeaths.

Here's a scary statistic: Children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car andkilled on Halloween than on any other day of the year. In 2017, October ranked No. 2in motor vehicle deaths by month, with 3,700. July is No. 1, with 3,830 deaths.Costume SafetyTo help ensure adults and children have a safe holiday, the American Academy ofPediatrics has compiled a list of Halloween safety tips. Before Halloween arrives, besure to choose a costume that won't cause safety hazards. All costumes, wigs and accessories should be fire-resistantAvoid masks, which can obstruct visionIf children are allowed out after dark, fasten reflective tape to their costumes and bags,or give them glow sticksWhen buying Halloween makeup, make sure it is nontoxic and always test it in a smallarea firstRemove all makeup before children go to bed to prevent skin and eye irritation. When They're on the ProwlA responsible adult should accompany young children on the neighborhood roundsIf your older children are going alone, plan and review a route acceptable to youAgree on a specific time children should return homeTeach your children never to enter a stranger's home or carInstruct children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friendsTell your children not to eat any treats until they return homeChildren and adults are reminded to put electronic devices down, keep heads up andwalk, don't run, across the streetSafety Tips for MotoristsNSC offers these additional safety tips for parents – and anyone who plans to be on theroad during trick-or-treat hours:Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbsEnter and exit driveways and alleys carefullyAt twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing. Discouragenew, inexperienced drivers from driving on Halloween

I would like to say THANK YOU to the friends and businesses that helped support the Silent Auction and

Bake Sale on Oct. 19th and made it a success. My broth-er, PAUL MATZAT, was very appreciative of the com-

munity support to aid the ALS Association in raisingfunds for check-ups, therapy, research and other services.

There needs to be a cure found for this 100% fatal dis-ease. Paul was diagnosed with ALS this year. Donations

can still be sent to: ALS Association Central and SouthernOhio Chapter, 1170 Old Henderson Road, Suite 221,
