TESLA and X-ray Free Electron Laser (Project TESLA)
Scientific Programme:General objectives of the project are: participation in the development of the project of linear collider TESLA, construction of X-ray free electron laser (XFEL), and construction and operation of an VUV/X-ray free electron laser at the TESLA Test Facility (TTF FEL) at DESY.
Expected main results: • Construction of diagnostic system for short electron bunches using far infrared coherent radiation from an undulator;
• Construction of photon beam diagnostic unit and characterization of X-ray radiation from X-ray FEL at TTF FEL;
• Conceptual design of pump-probe FEL facility based on two-color FEL amplifier;
• Design and manufacturing of undulators and wigglers for PETRA and TESLA;
• Theoretical work on FEL and beam physics;
• Development of diagnostics of cryogenic systems and semiconductor cryodetectors.

Project TESLA in 2004• Preparation of photon diagnostics for VUV FEL at DESY. JINR manufactured control
electronics for MCP radiation detectors and performed its commissioning at the TESLA Test Facility.
• Design and manufacturing of a prototype of permanent magnet quadrupole for XFEL and linear collider.
• Calculation and optimization of magnetic structure of undulators for XFEL.• Design of an infrared beamline for electron bunch length monitor based on coherent
infrared radiator. A prototype of a collimator with iris diaphragm has been manufactured by JINR and tested at DESY.
• Studies of beam physics related to production of intensive, low-emittance bunches for X-ray FEL.
• Development of elements for cryodiagnostcs for XFEL accelerator.• 38 published papers (18 in refereed journals) 2004.
