Facebook proposal: A Nigerian man named Chidimma Amedu was tired of trying to find the right woman to marry. So he posted a note on Facebook saying that he wanted to get married, and interested women could reply. The note said that the marriage would take place a week later. One of his Facebook acquaintances, Sophy Ijeoma, responded, thinking it was just a joke. The two barely knew each other, but they made a plan to meet two days later. They instantly fell in love. During the next few days, they visited each other’s families, planned a wedding, and tied the knot on the date indicated in Amedu’s Facebook “proposal.” Cake creations: Zhou Yi can decorate a cake like no other. The Chinese cake artist molds fondant (a thick paste of sugar and water that can be colored and flavored) into intricate figures, complete with clothing, jewelry, hair, and eyelashes. He places his figures in context, such as a woman sitting on a bench or a man holding a book. Nicknamed “Sugar King,” Zhou toils over his work to make it perfect, and may redo certain elements several times. His work, which celebrates Chinese culture, is being recognized worldwide: he won International Best in Show at the 2017 International Cake Competition in Birmingham, England. Realistic tats: Karol Rybakowski is a Polish artist who learned his craft at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. However, Rybakowski does not use his skill in a conventional way. Instead, he tattoos incredibly realistic portraits of people. This talented man plies his trade at the Ink-Ognito studio in Rybnik, Poland. He has created portraits of such famous actors as Jack Nicholson and Bradley Cooper. The arms and legs of his clients are the canvas for images of Charlie Chaplin, guitarist Jimmy Page, and even portraits of pets.
