What is an Online Livestock Sale? To ensure the safety of our youth, volunteers and our community

supporters, our annual 4-H / FFA Livestock Sales will be offered though

a virtual experience for 2020. The Frederick County 4-H & FFA Online

Livestock Sale is available for 4-H / FFA members to market and sell

their Beef, Sheep, Swine, Goat, Rabbit and Turkey Projects.

Community members and local businesses are able to purchase local,

fresh meat for their freezer raised by the 4-H and FFA members of

Frederick County, Maryland. “Add On” donations may also be made to

the 4-H / FFA members, through the sale platform, to help them invest

in future projects, pay for their first vehicle, or further their education.

Sale Date and Time

The sale will open for bids and add on donations at 9 am on Wednesday

September 23, 2020 and will close bids for all lots at 6 pm on Thursday

September 24, 2020.

Terms of Sale

1. All registration information the bidder provides shall be current,

complete, and accurate. Bidders must be 18 years of age or older and

must provide a valid Driver’s License Identification Number.

2. The Great Frederick Fair, Frederick County 4-H and Frederick County FFA

will never give or sell your information to any outside company. The

information you provide us with will only be used by us, and the sellers

that you purchase items from, to maintain records for the auction sales

and to aid us in providing service to you.

3. Bidder agrees to not use any device, or software to interfere or attempt

to interfere with the proper working of or any transaction being

conducted on and during the auction sale.

4. Bidder acknowledges that this auction is conducted electronically and the

seller and buyer rely on hardware and software that may malfunction

without warning.

5. Bidder is solely responsible to provide accurate information that will be

used to identify you to this system, to deliver notices to you and to allow

us to contact you. If your information changes then you are responsible

to update it on the site. We will not be responsible for lost, delayed or

misdirected notices in the event you do not update your information in a

timely manner to [email protected] .

6. Bidding is done in increments and will vary by item according to the

current price. The bidder is encouraged to bid the maximum amount

he/she is willing to pay for the item. A bidder may be outbid seconds

before the auction closes and may not have time to enter another bid.

7. A bid by any person shall be deemed conclusive proof that the bidder is

familiar and agrees to the Terms of Sale.

8. Every transmission over the Internet travels a different route and can be

delayed by a variety of factors, including the bidders own computer. The

time lapse between submission of a bid and its registration can vary by

several seconds. Bid positions are awarded on a first come first served

basis.

9. There are no bid retractions. ALL BIDS ARE NONCANCELLABLE ONCE

SUBMITTED. Once a bid is made and confirmed, it cannot be retracted.

When a bid is made the bidder discloses his/her intent and ability to buy

the item at the bid price. Once a bid is placed the bidder will be obligated

to buy the product at the said price indicated.

10. As a bidder you are responsible for any bids placed by you or a designated

representative under your bidding number and password. The security of

your bidder information is the sole responsibility of the bidder. The

bidder, will be responsible for any and all bids placed under his/her

number. If at any time the bidder feels that his/her user account and

password have been compromised due to lack of security on his/her part

the bidder must notify The Great Frederick Fair immediately at

[email protected] .

11. All lots will close simultaneously. A bidder can always check the time

remaining information that appears under each lot! REMEMBER TO CLICK

ON REFRESH FOR UP-TO-DATE TIME REMAINING!

12. Payment for purchases must be completed at the closure of the sale. A

link will be sent to the buyer with online payment instructions for

purchases and/or add on donations. Note: There will be a 3% sale fee for

all credit/debit card purchases.

13. Any purchase not paid in 7 business days is subject to a $50 late fee and a

daily finance charges of $0.50 per day. A fee of $50 will be assessed on all

returned checks and the bidder may be denied access to future auctions.

14. Scheduled dates for processing of animals is provided by the sale

committee. Due to COVID-19 a limited number of spots are available at

each location compared to previous years. The buyer will select a

preference of processor. Should space not be available at the desired

location the bidder gives the sale committee permission, by agreeing to

the terms of the sale, to select another processor. The cost of processing

is the responsibility of the buyer. The processing facility will contact the

buyer directly to determine desired packaging, with the exception to

Rabbits and Turkeys, which are packaged whole.

15. Any person bidding on items in this auction agrees to these terms and

conditions and understands that they will be held financially responsible

for their actions.

Register as a Bidder Online

1. Buyers can pre-register to participate in the Online Livestock Sale at:

Accessing the Sale Platform During the Event 1. The site can be accessed from a desktop computer, mobile device or an

iPad.

2. Once pre-registered the business or individual will log into the sale

platform by going to http://go.umd.edu/buyerguide and selecting

the link to the online sale.

3. A drop down will appear with a list of pre-registered individuals.

Select your name from the list.

4. Select the tab to receive a verification code. For security purposes a

verification code will be sent to each account to log in.

5. Once logged into the sale platform, available lots can be viewed. A

toolbar is available to filter the selections based on your purchasing

preferences.

6. All lots are sorted by species with the 4-H / FFA Members listed in

alphabetical order.

Placing a Bid 1. To place a bid click on the desired lot.

2. At the bottom of the screen select the “Make A Bid” button.

3. You will be promoted to select the destination in which you would

like your animal to go following the sale if you are the winning

bidder.

4. The platform will provide the next available bidding amount for the

lot which is allowed. A bidder may bid greater than the set amount if

they would like to.

5. Each lot has a minimum starting bid, which varies by species.

6. Once the bid has been placed and the bidder is the current winner

for the lot, it will highlight in a green field on the screen.

7. If the bidder is out bid, a notification will be sent as a text message to

the telephone number provided during registration. This will include

a link to the auction site to place a new bid if desired.

8. A toolbar at the top of the auction page will list a Running Buyer

Total for bids and add on donations for the buyer.

Placing an Add On Donation to the 4-H / FFA Member

1. To place a bid click on the desire lot.

2. At the bottom of the screen select the “Add On” button.

3. The bidder then can enter the desired amount they would like to donate

to the youth member.

4. Add on donations are flat donations to the youth member and are not

in exchange for the animal listed in the lot.

What Options are Available if I Purchase an Animal

1. Process the Animal for Meat

packaged for your freezer.

o The sales committee will request the bidder to select a

How Much Meat You Receive From the Animal

o Animals will be sold with a listed approximate weight from the

week of the sale.

o The dressing weight or hanging weight of the carcass is a

percentage of the live weight at the time of sale. For example:

A 1250 lb. steer = 769 lb. carcass = 538 lbs. of meat

A 130 lb. lamb = 64 lb. carcass = 48 lbs. of meat

A 260 lb. hog = 190 lb. carcass = 148 lbs. of meat

A 100 lb. goat = 50 lb. carcass = 40 lbs. of meat

A 30 lb. turkey = 26 lbs. of meat

A single 9 lb. rabbit = 7 lbs. of meat

A meat pen (3 Rabbits 5 lbs. each) = 11 lbs. of meat total

Picking Up Your Freezer Ready Meat

o Once the meat is ready for pick up from the facility the

processor or a sale committee member will contact the buyer.

o For processing facilities outside of the Frederick County area,

meat may be delivered to the Frederick area for pick up.

Arrangements will be offered by a sale committee member at

time of contact.

2. Buyer Takes the Animal Home to Keep

A buyer may choose to keep the live animal.

Following the sale the buyer will be contacted by a sale committee

member to arrange a time and location for delivery / transfer of the

animal.

Not available for Turkey Lots.

3. Donate the Animal Back to the 4-H / FFA Member to Keep

A buyer may choose to donate the animal back to the youth

member who sold it.

The animal would then become the property of the youth member.

Both the value of the purchase and the donation may be tax

deductible. Speak with your accountant to confirm.

4. Donate the Animal to be Resold with the Proceeds to Benefit a Charity

of Buyer's Choice

A buyer may choose to send their animal to be resold at auction

with the proceeds to be returned to the business or donated to a

charity of choice by the buyer.

Both the value of the purchase and the donation may be tax

deductible. Speak with your accountant to confirm.

Not available for Rabbit & Turkey Lots.

Check Out and Payment Procedures

1. Payment for purchases must be completed at the closure of the sale. A link
