Davis Main Road, one of the more important and high traffic density roads on this side of the railway t rack , has become a motorist's nightmare over the last year. This road was black topped, painted and affixed with reflectors in early 2014.
With low rise apartments, bungalows, convents and green trees peeping out of the compounds, this road had the beauty and charm of the Bangalore of yore. Within a few months of the road being tarred, B W S S B p r o j e c t o f replacing the old drain pipes in the area was announced.
Many banners, with the then corporator and area MLA beaming out of them, were strategically placed, announcing the pipe replacement project which would benefit the residents of the area.
The Hutchins Road was dug up first and was soon followed by the digging up of Davis Road. The carriageway of the road
Davis Road Needs Urgent Attentionwas reduced to half and soon the road developed a reputation of being a 'Truck Catcher'.
Ironically, one of the first vehicles to get mired in the many trenches here was a BWSSB truck! Post this, there have been multiple efforts to dump sand and mud to temporarily patch up the craters which keep cropping up on a daily basis. The road also has a few spots which appear to be perennial springs, as we always find water sprouting out of these points.
The Hutch ins Road , which runs perpendicular to Davis Road, does not even have a semblance of a road. The foot paths h a v e c o m p l e t e l y disappeared or have caved i n . P e d e s t r i a n s a r e literally forced to hop-skip and jump when they navigate these stretches. A little drizzle makes the junction of these roads a free skating zone and one c a n fi n d m a n y t w o wheelers losing balance. L a s t w e e k , B B M P
appears to have covered some of the holes with m e t a l a n d m u d . N o amount of patch work w o u l d a d d r e s s t h e s i t u a t i o n a n d i t i s imperative that both the r o a d s a r e r e - l a i d forthwith. With a new Corporator, new Minister for Bangalore, who also
happens to be the area MLA, and fresh budget allocations, we sincerely hope that these two roads would be relaid at the earliest, without resorting t o a n y p i e c e - m e a l approach.

Mobile vans, street plays to h e l p p r o m o t e w a s t e segregation in BengaluruTired of seeing big piles of g a r b a g e i n y o u r n e i g h b o u r h o o d ? Understand why they are there and do your bit to solve the problem.
On November 21st, the BBMP issued a circular with an instruction to strictly follow waste segregation at source in accordance with Solid Waste (Management and Handling) Rules 2000.
Here are highlights of the circular: Create awareness among public to segregate wet, dry and sanitary waste; Create awareness among civic workers to collect s e g r e g a t e d w a s t e a n d transport each type of waste to specific waste processing units; Auto tipper/ push cart facility will be provided to civic workers for waste segregat ion; All waste processing units to get only wet waste.
While this is not the first time the BBMP has started working on segregation, it

a p p e a r s c o n fi d e n t o f learning from its previous m i s t a k e s . B B M P commissioner, Kumar Naik said, “Apart from KCDC, dry waste collection centres and waste processing units like Terra Firma and MSGP, we also have additional six waste processing units. These units have been developed with the intention of processing only the segregated dry waste. All we need to do is to streamline things.” Why are there garbage dumps on roadsides?
The heaps of garbage piled up all over the city will disappear only if the waste is segregated at source, says the BBMP Commissioner.
T h e g a r b a g e s t a r t e d mounting everywhere after processing units closed their doors to trucks that bring mixed waste. In addition, villages around Bengaluru are refusing to accept the waste in the landfills, as it affects their quality of life.
The trucks which are sent back, dump the waste in the
city. This can be solved only if the chain of segregation is mainta ined, by people segregating waste, by civic workers collecting it, and by contractors transporting it.'90% segregation in RR Nagar’ The Commissioner has also claimed that waste s e g r e g a t i o n h a s b e e n successfully implemented in R R N a g a r z o n e . “Segregation is happening up to 90% in RR Nagar. If the people and contractors in RR Nagar can do it, why not others?” he asks.
The wet waste generated in RR Nagar is transported to t h e D o d d a b i d a r a k a l l u processing unit. This unit has the capacity to process 300 tonnes of waste per day, and at present, is functioning at 60% of its capacity.
BBMP also send some of the segregated waste from KR Market to this unit.
Offenders to be penalisedOne of the challenges before BBMP is deal ing with p e o p l e w h o d o n o t segregate. The public will find an easy way out, by conveniently dumping the mixed waste by the street side.
“This is one major concern that we should address. We will first penalise bulk generators that do not segregate waste even after repeated requests. It will be then followed by penalising individual households who fl o u t t h e r u l e s , ” t h e Commissioner says.BBMP launches awareness campaigns
In order to create awareness about waste segregation, BBMP has called on board 12 theatre troupes who will be performing plays on the topic for the next 2 weeks. In addition, 10 mobile display v a n s e q u i p p e d w i t h loudspeakers and staff to distribute pamphlets on segregation are doing the rounds across the city for a month.

Investment options for the 'common man'- Financial Planning for self (FPS)
A common thought amongst most of us is that everyone other than us seems to be making money easily! Another concern is that one keeps hearing about investment options but where does one make a beginning?
A common thread amongst the business community, salaried class, retired personnel and homemakers too who end up saving small amounts of money, is the frustration of not having ' basic awareness' of various financial / savings options and how to increase their income using their existing savings/ wealth.
Terms like Post tax returns, equity funds, debt funds, bull run, bear run etc are frequently heard but how does not break it up to understand in simple terms.
The worry amongst the retired class as well as the working category too is about their savings being slowly wiped out by increasing inflation and the inability to understand where to invest to ensure the returns are better. Should the investment be in gold or a Fixed deposit or a Post office scheme or in FMCG shares or PPF or in land? Should it be in one mode or in all types? Will my money be safe?
The other thing which puts off most of us is the high sounding jargons used by investment experts and their suggestions to invest in schemes which we know may not be safe.
VESOP ADVISORY SERVICES (VAS) is a professional consulting entity. We try to keep things simple so that people at large understand the financial aspects of their savings and wealth. We equip you with the basic understanding to evaluate investment options from a return and liquidity perspective. The objective is two-fold- Steady flow of income as well as safety of your hard earned principal amount too.
You may like to contact VESOP Advisory Services (VAS) on 9741597791/8971098431 to attend awareness sessions/ workshops which could help you understand in simple terms the financial aspects of your Wealth/ Income.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has unveiled the full scale model of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas in Bengaluru city's iconic Minsk Square.
Tejas is a single engined, light weight, highly agile, multi-role supersonic fighter. It has quadruplex digital fly-by-wire Flight Control System (FCS) with associated advanced flight control laws.
Extensive use of advanced composites in the airframe gives it a high strength to weight ratio, long fatigue life and low radar signatures. Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) is the project manager for the development of LCA. LCA's production facilities have been set up at HAL.
Earlier, the Minsk Square housed the model of Ajeet (Gnat) aircraft which was removed due to the metro work in 2009.

Everyone feels sad, low or just disinterested every now and then. Feelings of sadness and sorrow are n o r m a l , a n d w h e r e appropriate, healthy and a necessary part of life. Such depressive episodes, in the regular course, often allows us to value what we have when we have it, cherish the good things and through the sorrow and sadness, we often get in touch with a deeper sense of what it means to be alive and come back to the business of living.
For some though, the sadness refuses to go away, or appears for no discernible reason. Yet others might just not feel anything, or there is a sense of apathy and no energy. For a few, there m i g h t b e a n g e r a n d aggression that seems a persistent state. Such feelings and associated thoughts, might affect how one eats, sleeps, works, relates and just lives.
The persistence of such a state, where one begins to feel hopeless and helpless can be clinical depression
Sadness is different - Often, we find that people use 'I am depressed' when they really mean 'I am sad.' I t i s i m p o r t a n t t o differentiate the two.
Sadness is a necessary emot ional s ta te , and though there is such a social pressure to not be sad and be happy always, it is OK to be sad when n e e d e d , S a d n e s s associated with losses, either through natural causes or due to errors of judgement, or due to competitive losses, can help us develop better judgement, prepare for future events and motivate us.
While self-diagnosis is not recommended, if you find yourself exhibiting more than two of the following signs persistently for more than two weeks, it might be time to reach out for help:· Feeling persistently sad or empty, or irritable, as felt by yourself or as noticed by many of your close colleagues· Marked decrease in interest in activities that used to interest you· Significant changes in weight ( loss or gain)· Significant changes in sleeping (very little or excess)· Lack of energy or excitement, or activity· F e e l i n g s o f w o r t h l e s s n e s s o r helplessness, or sense of nothing being worth it· Continuing aches and pains not accompanied by injury or illness
When one is clinically depressed, it does become very hard indeed to help oneself. Professional help, including medical help, may be needed to even get the jump-start needed to be able to work yourself out of it.
Sometimes, people going through a depression may a l s o h a v e s u i c i d a l though t s o r ac t ive ly consider suicide. If such thoughts occur, even in the fleeting, please do talk to a mental health professional at the earliest
