Student Voice
Carley Basten & Kaleb Davies are our well spoken interviewees for
Student Voice this week. This week they are talking about Mogo,
Kinder Orientation and the SRC Book Swap.
Kaleb:
Carley:
Hi, I’m Carley and I’m in Year 6 from Macarthur. I like Geography at school and I love to play sports. I have 2 sisters and a brother and also live with my 2 guinea pigs and a dog named Lilly.
Stage 2 went to Mogo last week for their excursion and from the photos it looks like they had a great time. They went to the beach, the Zoo, did some gold panning, had a campfire with traditional Koori cultural stories and enjoyed some bush tucker. We are lucky at Franklin that we have these great experiences with our friends and teachers. Lots of fun memories are made on school excursions.
Last Friday Macarthur hosted the school Assembly in the Miles Franklin Hall. Our entertainment piece was synchronised swimming on a blue tarp over mats. Our class thought we looked particularly graceful as we swam to the High Hopes Remix. I really enjoy when our class hosts assembly.
This Wednesday the Franklin SRC are having a Book Swap where students can swap books over for a donation of $1. They are also selling raffle tickets for 50 cents each with three great book pack prizes. All money that the SRC raises will go towards
buying books for remote communities in Australia.
Just a reminder that we only have 6 weeks of school left and that’s going to go really fast. We have claimed the important dates beside this column in the newsletter so parents can be prepared for what is coming up. The Year 6 Farewell dinner will be on in Week 9 at Club Tumut. Class parties will be on Tuesday 17th December and the last day of school for students is Wednesday 18th December.
Hi, My name is Kaleb and I’m in Macarthur. My favourite subject at school is sport and I especially love Basketball. My favourite basketball team are the Chicago Bulls. At home I have 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 3 budgies and a dog called Holly.
Last Thursday our new Kinder students for next year had their last orientation session. This session involved them learning about our ‘Buddy’ system here at Franklin which will help them feel comfortable and safe next year for the first term of school. I was a buddy this year to Todd and I found it to be a great experience. Some of the things we help the new Kinder students to learn includes guiding them around the school so they don’t get lost. Showing them what places are out of bounds and making sure they are in the right place at the right time. Buddies sit together at lunch and then play with the Kinder kids and make sure they find friends and are being safe. This year the Year 5 students (who will be Buddies next year) had a great time playing with the parachute on the oval and doing other fun activities including playing in the sandpit with the new Kinder kids. We all want to make the first few weeks next year a great experience for our new students.
In Week 9 Tumut Public School are having a whole school performance at the Montreal. Cost to students will be $3. There will be more about this at a later date.
Last week Year 6 had Middle School at Tumut High. This fortnight we played sport and then did some Maths work in the collaborative learning Maths rooms with Mr Lopez, our Year Advisor next year. On Friday 22nd November we have a full day at Tumut High where we will get timetables and have to find our own way to classes amongst the regular High School Students. It’s exciting but scary at the same time.
CELEBRATING FRANKLIN!

Kindergarten Orientation
Buddy Day
Last Thursday Franklin’s final Kindergarten Orientation day
for new students starting in 2020 was held. During this ses-
sion our new Kindergarten students learned about Frank-
lin’s buddy system where Kindergarten students are allo-
cated a Year 6 buddy for the first Term to make their transi-
tion into ‘big school’ easier.
Our Year 6 students enjoy helping their Kinder buddies and
this reinforces responsibility and leadership in our senior
students.
Celebrating Reading!
The SRC will be holding a Great Book Swap on Wednes-
day. Franklin students are encouraged to celebrate read-
ing while raising funds at the same time. Students will
have the opportunity to browse for a book that they
would like to take home in exchange for a gold coin do-
nation. All the money raised will go towards buying
books for remote communities in Australia.
