We raise funds from philanthropies, corporations and financial firms, federal, state and local governments and through the capital markets.
We also generate income from consulting, and lending services.
Work with local partners
Through a network of local offices and community-based partners across the country, we provide grants, loans, equity and technical assistance.
We also lead advocacy efforts on local, regional and national policy.
LISC is an investor,

By investing in housing, businesses, jobs, schools, public spaces, safety, youth, health centers, grocery stores and more, we catalyze opportunities in communities nationwide.

Let’s talk about health
Franklin Gothic Medium
Franklin Gothic Medium
How?
Franklin Gothic Medium
In America today, zip codes reliably predict how
long one may live.
About 80 percent of what determines a person’s length and quality of life happens outside of a doctor’s office, clinic or hospital.
Factors like educational opportunity, economic
stability, neighborhood safety, availability of
recreational facilities and access to fresh, healthy
food overwhelmingly influence a person’s well-
being and health.

A new way to look at health
Franklin Gothic Medium
Conditions in the places where people live, learn, work, and play affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes. These conditions are known as social determinants of health (SDOH).*

Franklin Gothic Medium Health Connects to Everything
Franklin Gothic Medium Health + Affordable Housing
How it’s connected
Homelessness, housing costs and
deteriorated conditions lead to physical
and mental health issues.
What that looks like
Poor housing quality and indoor air
impacts respiratory health
The stress of housing instability impacts
immune functionality and chronic disease
incidence
Homelessness affects all physical and
mental facets of health, and often results
in high ER utilization rates
Franklin Gothic Medium Health + Education
How it’s connected
Educational attainment impacts lifestyle and health decisions.
What that looks like
Access to education as a child enables increased financial stability which impacts overall wellness
Workforce development and adult education make these same impacts, and lower recidivism
Franklin Gothic Medium Health + Financial Stability
How it’s connected
Healthcare costs can have a dramatic impact on personal finances. An individual or family’s ability to pay is closely connected to employment, savings and even credit.
What that looks like
When individuals and families have financial stability, their spending on healthy foods and heath care goes up, impacting health and wellness –diabetes, hypertension and chronic disease
Franklin Gothic Medium
How it’s connected
A missing sense of community and connection to others can have negative consequences for mental health, threatening physical health.
What that looks like
Social isolation accounts for decreased immune functionality and increased disease rates, including mental illness, notably depression, which is also linked to high suicide rates
Community connectivity allows for increased flows of information both informally and formally for increased access to health and financial stability related resources
Health + Social Cohesion
Franklin Gothic Medium Health + Vibrant Neighborhoods
How it’s connected
Local resources, businesses and institutions provide goods, services and opportunities to ensure health.
What that looks like
Access to amenities, inviting public spaces and interconnectivity of resources are key to ensuring utilization of health care and health maintaining behavior, including participation in community neighborhood networks
Jobs and economic development for a neighborhood support financial stability, impacting health and wellness
