+My Introduction To The Song

I remember I was due to go on holiday the next morning in summer 2012 and naturally I wanted to download myself some music or movies that would keep me entertained for the flight. For once I actually used my technology to find a new artist who I had previously never heard of, Frank Ocean. All I simply had to do was use my laptop to go on to the iTunes store’s most highly rated artists of this summer and there was a number of albums, I then clicked on Frank Oceans most popular songs and fell in love with the tone and overall projection of his voice and how he can both sing and rap. All I simply had to do from there was purchase it straight on to my laptop and transfer across to my iPhone another way technology has influenced teens like myself with music habits.

+Why I Liked The Song

When I first heard the song it gave me that new song rush, I truly felt that although the only lyrics that I knew where all the cities ‘Miami, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Spain Lost’ I truly felt the song was for me and that I would listen to it by the pool and at the beach every day as the tempo and voice of the song was so upbeat. However without even knowing it I had indeed grown to admire a summery song that was about Frank Ocean using an attractive female as a drug mule who travelled to all these wonderful cities just to sell drugs, I was extremely surprised when again the use of the internet has allowed me to find out the real truth behind what I thought was a beautiful song about love and relationships.

+Reflections On The Song Although this song has a slightly disturbing theme I didn't’t find

this out until at least a year after I heard the song hence why I was able to listen to it throughout my entire summer. I do feel that the internet is a strange place to source music but I feel as I have aged and matured I don’t find certain topics like the ones Frank discusses in his song to be funny I am now old enough to be able to enjoy a song for its performance and artist not just the lyrics. Furthermore I also feel that I pay closer attention to lyrics and actually enjoy the song more as my understanding is more developed and I find the narrative in the adult themed storyline interesting in comparison to my own life, and its almost refreshing to hear artists address true problems such as drug smuggling and corruption. I suppose taking risks with music choice is what makes us a more all rounded person, listening to different artists can also broaden my music designs for my own music video.
