IB Assessment

• Student work is assessed according to Miami-Dade County Public School grading scale: A-B-C-D-F

• Students are also assessed in a range of tasks using IB MYP assessment criteria for each subject area

• In addition to a M-DCPS Report Card, students are also issued an MYP Progress Report at the end of the second quarter

Academic Honesty Policy (Blue Form)

Students at Frank C. Martin International K-8 Center are expected to strive to develop theattributes of The IB Learner Profile that are embedded throughout the curriculum and in theschool’s daily life. Ion so doing, all students must adhere to the school’s Academic HonestyPolicy.

Forms and Definitions of Academic Dishonesty

• Cheating is defined as using unauthorized answers or sources to receive credit for schoolwork. Some examples are looking at someone else’s paper, copying from your notebook when you are supposed to use only your memory (e.g., on quizzes and tests), or copying someone else’s homework because you did not complete yours.

Academic Honesty cont’d.• Plagiarism is defined as a form of cheating when you present another person’s words

or ideas as your own without giving the originator credit for the information. Somecommon examples of plagiarism are copying information from a book without using quotationmarks and without including a bibliography at the end of the assignment listing the sourcesused. All information in academic assignments that is not common knowledge must be citedand documented. An example of common knowledge is: Miami is a city in Florida (Miami-DadeCounty Code of Student Conduct, p. 50).

General Guidelines

At Frank C. Martin International K-8 Center, we place a high value on honesty and this

extends to work submitted for assessment. Teachers are expected to work with students

from the beginning of their participation in the MYP, to develop shared understandings

about cheating, plagiarism, and other instances of academic dishonesty. Our

expectations are set out below. All members of the community need to be aware that the

school treats academic dishonesty as a very serious matter.

Requirements for Completion of the MYP(Purple Form)

In order to receive an IB Middle Years Programme certificate of completion of the 3-year

programme, 8th grade students must comply with the following requirements:

➢ Complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service during the course of the MYP (March 5, 2018). Five community service hours may be completed and recorded the summer prior to the start of the school year. Students MUST log their completed hours onto the online submission link found on the school’s website.

o 6th grade = 10 hours + reflection questions

o 7th grade = 15 hours + reflection questions

o 8th grade = 15 hours

➢ Complete the 8th grade Community Project by the specified deadline date

➢ Earn C or better in all subject areas and conduct, with no Ds or Fs in any subject area

➢ Be current with all financial obligations

➢ Adhere to the expectations of the Student Code of Conduct AND the Academic Honesty Policy.

The IB Community Project

• It is an IB requirement for all 8th Grade students.

• It is a significant body of work produced over a period of time.

• It is a culmination of the student’s service experience in the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and his/her involvement with the Global Contexts.

• It is a product of the student’s own initiative and creativity, reflecting an understanding of Key and Related Concepts, Global Contexts and demonstration of Approaches to Learning skills.
