FASHIONParis has been an international capital of high fashion since the 19th century, particularly in the
domain of haute couture, clothing hand-made to order for
private clients. It is home of some of the largest fashion houses in the world. Paris
Fashion Week, is among the top four events of the international fashion calendar, along with the fashion weeks in Milan, London and New York. Paris is also the
home of the world's largest cosmetics company.
THEATRE
Theatre traditionally has occupied a large place in Parisian culture. This still holds true today, and
many of its most popular actors today are also stars of French
television. Some of Paris' major theatres include Bobino, the
Théâtre Mogador, and the Théâtre de la Gaîté-Montparnasse. Some
Parisian theatres have also doubled as concert halls. Many of France's greatest musical legends,
such as Édith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier, Georges Brassens, and
Charles Aznavour, found their fame in Parisian concert halls such as Le Lido, Bobino, l'Olympia and
le Splendid.
TOURISMThe Eiffel Tower, with over a century of history, has become over time a symbol
of Paris and the world's most visited monument.
Notre Dame is the largest Gothic cathedral in France. Its construction lasted almost 100 years and began in
the twelfth century.
The Arc de Triomphe is next to the Eiffel Tower, the most representative of Paris monument. With two centuries of history the Arc de Triomphe has lived
the most important moments of France.
The Pantheon in Paris was the first major monument of the city. Its construction was prior to the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, the first place where you could see
Paris.
The National des Invalides was built in the seventeenth century as a residence for retired soldiers of the service.
Today it houses the tomb of Napoleon.
The Louvre Pyramid is a large glass and metal pyramid, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard of the Louvre Palace in Paris. The large
pyramid serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. Completed in 1989, it has become a landmark of
the city of Paris.
