Overview

• Currently in SDD, the legacy and IEEE 802.16m frames are offset by a fixed number of subframes to accommodate new features.

• The offset is between the start of the legacy frame and the start of the IEEE 802.16m frame, defined in a unit of subframes.

• However, with type-1 subframe level offset definition, both IEEE 802.16m and IEEE 802.16e system may have some inefficient resource allocation size.

• Therefore, we need to clarify the definition of FRAME_OFFSET in order to support the WirelessMAN-OFDMA frames with efficient resource allocation size.

Frame structure with the Current FRAME_OFFSET Definition

• In case of FRAME_OFFSET = 1

• In case of FRAME_OFFSET = 2

• Problems– As shown in the above examples, there are odd number of OFDM symbols in the area 1,

regardless of FRAME_OFFSET. – At least two STC_DL_ZONE_IEs should be always needed in the area 1 since 2 symbols

and 1 symbol are defined in PUSC and FUSC, respectively.

Proposed Remedy

• Line 42-46, page 18.• Add text in section 15.3.3.4.1 (Amendment)• The WirelessMAN-OFDMA and the Advanced Air Interface frames

shall be offset by a fixed number of subframes, FRAME_OFFSET = 1,2, … , K as shown in Figure 393 and Figure 394. When the Advanced Air Interface frames support the WirelessMAN-OFDMA for 5, 10, 20MHz channel bandwidths, all subframes in the Advanced Air Interface DL Zone are type-1 subframes. The number of symbols in the WirelessMAN-OFDMA DL Zone is 5+6·(FRAME_OFFSET-1). The maximum value of parameter K is equal to the number of DL subframes minus one, since the Advanced Air Interface frame shall contain at least one DL subframe.

Frame Structure with the Proposed Remedies

• Notice– As shown in the above examples, even number of OFDM symbols are in area 2

which gives efficient resource allocation.

– Also, the all subframes of 16m are type 1 subframes in this case.

• In case of FRAME_OFFSET = 1

• In case of FRAME_OFFSET = 2
