IntroductionWith great pleasure we present to you our new titles for Autumn 2015, together with recent titles and highlights from our backlist. Frame Publishers is the home of Frame magazine, our flagship publication that reports on the international state of the art in interiors and design. In our portfolio we also have Mark, our architectural magazine and Elephant, our contemporary art magazine. These absolutely stunning periodicals have built up strong fan-bases around the world, for their content as well as for the graphic design and production quality. The magazines feed into the book publishing programme and our new titles for this season once again reflect this. We are happy to announce the expansion of no less than three of our ongoing book series, presenting monumental and luxurious volumes showcasing overviews of inspiring design-related projects. The godfather of these titles is Grand Stand 5 – which pushes our best-selling book series to its farthest reaches yet as it translates 130 trade fair stands into a visual feast of tempting temporary spaces. Our series that strips back iconic interior products to tell their story from different perspectives – designer, manufacturer and user – is presented in Goods 2. And finally, we are zooming in on work- spaces once again, more than a decade after publishing our first office-focused book. Looking at global workplaces from a design perspective, The Other Office 2 highlights 100 outstanding interiors pinpointing the current trends in creative working environments. If there is one business sector that is changing with warp speed, then that would be retail. We are very happy to announce a book written by two influential professors in retail design, which speaks to both retail designers and retail entrepreneurs and managers as it explains how shopping has been reshaped by the digital revolution. Holistic Retail Design gives a theoretical framework and sets out practical tools and approaches to improve customer shopping experiences by the application of holistic thinking. The final new title is a beautiful visual presentation of the works of Dutch artist Sebastiaan Bremer. With a portfolio having a focus that lies part-way between painting and photography, this is the first-ever detailed analysis of his works and his technique of painting directly onto photographic canvases – a style which the artist continues to use today. Bremer’s work is part of several important international collections, including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. I wish you all happy reading, and if you have a good idea for a new book, feel free to send us an email to [email protected].

Readers discover how ateliers and studios respond to the task of integrating brand identity into commercial presentations and spatial scenographies with stimulating atmospheres. Included are descriptions of how the designers overcame such challenges as restrictions of space and limitations of lighting at trade fairs. Completing the book is an index of designer profi les of the featured studios and brand agencies, as well as a listing of the all the featured trade fairs, making this an indispensable source of information as well as inspiration.

In 1923, the West Michi-gan businessman HerMan MILLer helped his son-in-law, D.J. De Pree, buy the Michi-gan Star Furniture Company. De Pree decided to rename the company after his father-in-law; a name that became synonymous with ‘modern’ furniture by the mid-20th

century. Working with George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames, the company pro-duced classics of industrial design. Since then, the com-pany has collaborated with designers like Doug Ball, Yves Béhar, Ayse Birsel, Don Chad-wick, Alexander Girard, Isamu Noguchi, Robert Propst, Stu-dio 7.5 and Bill Stumpf. Today, Herman Miller also is recognised for its interior furnishings, solutions for workplaces, healthcare environments, and related technologies and services. The company has manufac-turing facilities in the United States, China, Italy and the United Kingdom, and sales offices, dealers, licensees and customers in over 100 countries. Its aim is to create inspiring design that help people do great things. —

Holistic Retail DesignReshaping Shopping for the Digital Era

Holistic Retail Design sets out a theory that reshapes shopping by introducing strategies in holistic constitution and the improvement of retail experiences. It covers stationary, temporary and digital customer touch-points and intermediates between the consumer, the retail brand and the products being off ered. The theory shapes spaces, platforms, events, interfaces, signage and communications, expanding scope whilst introducing retail archetypes linking to customer role models. The holistic approach in retail is a child of the second digitisation wave. Since 2005, the changes that Web 2.0 applica-tions have wrought on consumers’ social and everyday practical behaviour patterns marked the beginning of the internet’s impact on purchasing behaviour, and consequently on retailing. Total price transparency, visible customer reviews and the soaring number of online shops changed the market. However, nobody was responsible for the single most vital diff erentiation factor besides price: the customer’s holistic experience, lately also known as the customer journey.

Sebastiaan BremerTo Joy

Part-intelligentsia, part-phantasmagoria, part-secret journal – To Joy is an illustrated guide through the labyrinthine imagination of contemporary artist Sebastiaan Bremer. His works explode with energy as his obsessively-painted white dots rise over his photographic canvases like clouds of smoke. Born in Amsterdam, Bremer creates his subjects from a swirling ring of psychedelic/art historical/personal anecdotal ecstasy. Sex, death, family, art, history, love and lust come in and out of focus as the imagery morphs into layers of alchemy and meaning. Charlotte Cotton, esteemed independent writer and curator, presents an essay outlining the importance of Bremer’s contribution to contemporary photography. Bremer’s own personal writings are like an intimate studio visit of his artistic practice. Gregory Volk, an art critic for Art in America and professor at Virginia Commonwealth University, poetically describes the emergence of Bremer’s unique work in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the 1990s. Designed by Christiaan Kuypers, a New York-based creative director, the book reads and fl ows like an autobiographic novel.

Postdigital Artisans focuses on a return to tactility, featuring contemporary artisans who craft objects by hand whilst embracing the digital age, drawing inspiration from these themes. The digital comes with its own aesthetic framework that cannot help but colour our experience of the world, and change our expectations of the objects that surround us. As the digital becomes ever more pervasive however, there is also a return to physical experiences that technology cannot satisfy. This is true across sectors, from immersive theatre to vinyl records, and although digital will undoubtedly dominate our future, there are pockets of resistance.

• Showcases 60 modern-day artisans who work in the digital world yet craft by hand.• Included are essays by experts which throw light on diff erent aspects of the postdigital mindset and aesthetic.• The book is a current hot topic, and was recently featured in The New York Times.

The artist collects discarded doors, furniture and panelling that are deconstructed, sawn into thin boards and become part of his immense colour archive. The Factory Set is richly illustrated to showcase the artist’s work, detailing his trademark wall-mounted bas-reliefs.

• Presented is a perspective of van der Ende’s 25 years of art practice.• There is an in-depth introduction written by the artist himself.• Included are texts by Frits van Dongen, Ron van der Ende, Jannet de Goede, Hester Keijser and Braden King.

The firm’s portfolio covers 15 years in which the outfit created remarkable environments at home and abroad. Featured projects include residences, offices, restaurants, shops, buildings and product designs.

Aimed at bachelor’s degree students and recent graduates, this guide provides an in-depth overview of 30 leading graduate schools across the globe offering a master’s degree in product design. Full course details and interviews with current students/alumni mean the book answers all the questions future students might have.

Grand Stand 3 presents 145 trade fair stands, ranging from small booths to multi-level structures. Each stand is presented by a description of the design, project credits, photography and a designer profile.

In his global design practice, Karim Rashid’s sketches are the conceptual reference point for his projects. His drawings all exhibit a visual consistency and confidence of line. Karim has produced thousands of sketches and hundreds of digital illustrations, 300 of which are shown in Sketch.

Shaken and then stirred, this book presents a cocktail of bars, cafés and clubs. Introduced by an accompanying text, each of the 40 featured projects is presented over seven pages illustrated with high quality photographs and floor plans, with an additional page dedicated to the designers.

Float! proposes a new way of building: on water instead of on land. Building on water allows inner-city areas to expand. It is up to architects of the climate- change generation to respond to the world’s spatial needs with smart, sustainable proposals. This must-read book helps them do just that.

Happening presents 29 happenings – in the broadest sense of the word. From car shows to fashion events, from exhibitions to festivals, from sparkling to robust. Instead of telling you how to organise an event, this book focuses on the design, and shows you how the designers translated the brief into an experience.

The unique atmosphere of the seaside has been captured by designers, architects and artists worldwide. Compiled in this book are 115 creative concepts, from beach clubs, hotels and oceanfront homes to sea baths, urban beaches and art installations.

Relax explores the holistic, sensorial interiors of wellness centres worldwide. Divided into three sections – spas, salons and gyms – this book offers its readers an escapism, albeit only temporary, to worlds where human wellbeing is paramount.

A luxurious monograph on the architec-ture, interiors and graphics of German design collective 3deluxe. This book presents the group’s projects showing a skilful mastery of interplaying graphics, interior and architecture to create powerful spatial situations that resonate through all of the studio’s projects.

Bon Appétit presents 35 projects from around the globe: restaurant settings produced by the world’s most influential design firms – from Karim Rashid and Marcel Wanders to Stefan Zwicky and HawkinsBrown. The recipe for restaurant magic features a provocative mix of dining environments to satisfy every taste.

Bright details and explores 38 exterior lighting designs from top-level designers, manufacturers and artists around the world. Each project is shown on eight pages through photography, plans, lighting schemes and an explanatory text.
