Basic principles

Mandatory features of the IMPEx infrastructure

• Extendibility (easily adding new models, databases and analysis tools)

• In-line with worldwide trends and standards(e.g. IVOA)

• Generality of approaches and interoperabilitywith existing tools

• Web-based applications in a service-orientedenvironment

Can be seen as a prototype for a general infrastructure capable of operating a broad spectrum of data and models.

A common metadata standard was developed for the description of simulation models and archived datasets.

The IMPEx Data Model is based on SPASE (xml) that originated from the Heliospheric community.

The IMPEx Data Model

SPASE (Space Physics Archive Search and Extract) was developed for the description of observational data

Ideal basis to add ability to describe respective simulation data on top and use it as a unified Data Model in the context of IMPEx

for further details on the SPASE 2.2.3 simulation extension see: spase-group.org/data/reference/spase-sim-1_0_0/

IMPEx Protocol

Central configuration file for access to methods and data

The IMPEx configuration file (impexconf.xml) contains basic access information for every tool and every SMDB

The configuration file is existing only once for the whole system, the caching policy is part of the definition (see Technical Documentation on website)

Also includes basic information about all services and the technical protocol to use for access of tools and SMDBs.

Access via the IMPEx Portal (xml or json)

All data is accessible via (static) tree.xml files. All data in the trees is stored compliant with IMPEx Data Model

All available functionalities and methods are accessible as a web service as defined in the methods.wsdl file

IMPEx Protocol

Common set of web services for SMDB and Tools access

The common webs service interface to Simulation Databases (SMDBs) and web based analysis tools is fully implemented since March 2015.

AMDA2

There are 30 methods defined in total, 2 are shared between all SMDBs and 4 between AMDA and ClWeb

• getDataPointValue - Generic method to return data from 0D(given point) up to 3D (volume)

• getSurface - 3DView integration - generates a meshgrid and computes interpolations for one or several parameters

SINP provides 16 web services mainly dedicated to “run on request” execution

AMDA and ClWeb provide further methods for data exchange (i.e. virtual workspace)

ClWeb4
