Evaluation of the response of global water cycle to climate change. Assessment of the future vulnerability of water as a resource.
The aim is to bring together the hydrological, water resources and climate communities to analyse, quantify and predict the components of the current and future global water cycles and related water resources states, to evaluate their uncertainties and clarify the overall vulnerability of global water resources related to the main societal and economic sectors, present and future trends. Therefore, analyse and describe especially causal chains leading to observable changes in extremes (floods and droughts).

Evaluation of water quality models for application to temporary water in Mediterranean catchments
TeMPQSIM ha provided advanced tools to improve the efficiency of integrated water management in the Mediterranean and semiarid river catchments. It has focussed on existing water quality models in the Mediterranean during periods without runoff and the extreme first flush effects.
Guidelines have been prepared for the operational use of improved river models in management plans

Evaluate the Impacts of global change on European Freshwater ecosystems
EURO-LIMPACTS focuses on the key drivers of aquatic ecosystem change and examines their interaction with global, especially climate change.
It will develop toolkit for integrated catchment analysis and modelling , a unified system of ecological indicators.

Floodwater recharge of alluvial aquifers in dry land environments
Assess water resources in semiarid river basins by determining long term transmission losses from floods and quantify floodwater recharge into alluvial aquifers.

FP6 – Water scarcity related projects
AQUASTRESS: The AQUASTRESS project adopts a 'case study stakeholder driven'
approach involving proactively the acting community in the different stages of the decision-making process in view to analyse, select and validate different options for mitigating water stress (technological, institutional, managerial ...).
EUROPEAN COMMISSION - Research DG - December 2006FP7 /9
Water Supply and Sanitation TPFive areas of research have been
identified to meet the major challenges the water sector faces
• Balancing demand and supply
• Ensuring appropriate quality and security
• Reducing negative environmental impacts
• Novel approaches to the design, construction and operation of water infrastructure assets
• Establishment of an enabling framework
Six pilot theme programmes have been identified to address the four major challenges for sustainable water management for Europe.
Pilot 1: Mitigation of water stress in coastal zones
Pilot 2: Sustainable water management inside and around large urban areas
Pilot 3: Sustainable water management for agriculture
Pilot 4: Sustainable water management for industry
Pilot 5: Reclamation of degraded water zones (surface water and groundwater)
Pilot 6: Proactive and corrective management of extreme hydro-climatic events
