TIM FOX, PT, DPT, GCSFounder + Chairman of the Board

We are pleased to announce Jeffrey Rose as the new Chief Executive Officer of FOX Rehabilitation.

Jeff has served in senior executive positions in the healthcare industry for over 30 years, managing large-scale, geographically and functionally diverse businesses in healthcare delivery, direct-to-consumer marketing and advisory services. He has been recognized as a transformational leader who has effected culture, business model and technology changes, acquisition integration, and other types of broad-based changes in multiple organizations and settings.

“This is the perfect time for me to move up to Chairman of the Board and for Jeff to become FOX’s next CEO. We have selected an incredibly experienced and successful leader at a time when FOX is in a strong position,” said FOX Founder and Chairman Dr. Fox. “Jeff has the knowledge and experience to take this practice to the next level.”

As an entrepreneur with extensive strategic planning and business development expertise, Jeff has launched four businesses, introduced new products and services, acquired and integrated 25 companies, and created many successful partnerships.

Jeff is a national leader and subject matter expert on health economics and the implementation of health information technology and health information exchange to reduce healthcare costs.

Most recently Rose was with L.E.K. Consulting, a global management consulting firm, where he served on their Healthcare Services Executive Network. Prior to that Rose was the Founder, President and Chief Operating Officer of NovaCare, a medical rehabilitation company; Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Occupational Health Resources, a regional provider of occupational medicine services; Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SelfCare, an e-commerce and catalog marketer of health-related products; and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of HealthAlliant, a leading healthcare transformation consultancy. Over his career, he has raised over $300 million in capital to finance these and related projects.

“I am delighted to join the Practice as Chief Executive Officer,” Jeff said. “Along with Dr. Fox, I will be working to ensure a smooth transition and to reinforce the cultural values that have made FOX a very successful professional private practice for the past 17 years, while still allowing the necessary changes to bring us to the next level.”

JEFF ROSE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Message from Dr. Fox: If you want to receive abundance in your life you must live an attitude of gratitude, I get it.

If you want to grow personally and professionally you must be able to reflect quite regularly, I get it.

For this issue as we enter a new year, I give thanks for a great 2015, but I refuse to look in the rearview mirror and reminisce. Instead, I want to focus on the future. I predict that 2016 is going to be one of our best years ever, so let’s talk about where we are going and what we are going to do. After all, “good leaders take people places they never dreamt of going.”

I dream that my love and passion for the people and this practice will flourish, and together our final products and reputation will grow exponentially, and as a result FOX will lead the industry by setting an orange bar at an all-new height.

I dream of touching more and more lives in more places by helping folks to achieve what they once thought impossible, as demonstrated by the wealth of success stories and celebratory letters we receive on a daily basis. We provide clinically excellent care to those who ordinarily would not be able to receive it.

I dream that the old Fujitsu laptops would somehow change into a new, state-of-the-art device, just as Cinderella’s pumpkin once transformed into a glamorous carriage. (BTW - that is not going happen, but we have a plan!)

I dream of being able to view a dashboard of clinical, financial, and satisfaction data that scientifically validates how darn good we are. Such valid and reliable data will be used to teach and train clinicians on best demonstrated practices to improve the delivery of our care, and to negotiate better contracts and better rates with our customers.

I dream that the healthcare industry (more physicians and payers) would wake up and recognize the data supporting therapeutic exercise and its plethora of indications for our population. Once awake, I dream that they would then recognize its cost effectiveness and rapidly develop payment models that reward us for our outcomes. Heck, I would even share the risk….we are that good!

Now it’s your turn. What are your dreams? I need everyone to block an hour on your schedule this week or even right now and write some personal and professional dreams or goals. Go ahead dream a dream, it’s okay. I guarantee you will find them to come into a reality.

“Good planning makes dreams become a reality.”Wishing you all a very healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year.

Tim

WELCOME JEFF ROSE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

QAPD YEAR IN REVIEW The Quality Assurance and Professional Development teams have worked hard over the past year in order to provide resources for the practice to meet its strategic goals and for each team member to have the tools they need to succeed and provide clinically excellent and evidence-based clinical care. Below are a few of the highlights.

FOX Geriatric Residency Program: 2015 marks the year that the Residency Program is being re-credentialed by the APTA for another five years. In our first five years of operation, we have graduated 5 residents, all of whom went on to become board certified in geriatrics as well as took on leadership roles within our practice. We are also looking forward to a great Capstone Presentation by Andrew Harnish, PT, DPT on December 10th to mark the official completion of his program, as we welcome him as our sixth graduate!

MedBridge: 2015 was the first year for the online platform for our continuing education. MedBridge offers unlimited courses, a sophisticated home exercise program, clinical tools, live streamed courses and so much more, all at your fingertips! Better yet, we have only scratched the surface on the capabilities of MedBridge, and we look forward to continued development of their platform including the release of their mobile application.

Professional Development: In the spirit of clinical excellence and with an understanding that the foundation to any clinical practice is well-trained, highly capable employees, I am proud to announce that we have added five board certified geriatric physical therapists and have at least 15 additional physical therapists testing for certification next year. We are also home to the nation’s 19th occupational therapist board certified in gerontology by the AOTA, Patty Hoffman, BS, OTR/L. In addition, we have reached 81 total LSVT trained therapists.

Professional, Academic, Clinical Excellence (PACE) Program: We have returned our PACE Program to the field and have a total of 114 applicants in our first two application periods. Our next applications will be accepted in January 2016.

Jefferson Outcomes Data: The great care that you provided to our chosen population is being extracted from our Electronic Health Records (EHR) and analyzed!

EHR Data Extraction and Analysis: FOX and the Jefferson School of Public Health have partnered to extract and analyze our clinical outcomes over a two year period. The preliminary findings are not surprising; we make tremendous gains with our clients! Look forward to the sharing of more information related to this outcomes project with a primary focus on promoting our practice and limiting practice variability.

Patient Satisfaction: 2015 marks the first year that FOX has collected patient satisfaction data from our clients. We have secured about 1,000 total responses straight from our clients and caregivers. Look forward to this data being collected at higher volumes as well as being used in our marketing campaigns. No surprise, our feedback is positive in about 96% of cases!

The FOX Emerging Professionals Mentor Program: The program continues to grow about 20% each year. For those of you who are not aware of the program, it is designed to assist the clinician with less than six months experience to become successful in an environment that promotes patient-centered care, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning. Exceptional clinicians, passionate about the older adult population, receive mentoring and training for geriatric specific clinical skills, administrative tasks including documentation, and fulfillment of professional roles. The program has hired more than 200 new graduates over the past 11 years, and 88% of those hired still work for FOX today. Of those still employed, close to a quarter of those clinicians have moved on to leadership roles.

When I take inventory of the divisional accomplishments of the QAPD team, I get an overwhelming sense of pride. In a fast paced healthcare environment, it is easy to complete a project and move on to the next task without taking time to celebrate the wins. Wins happen all around us every day and our division is no different. I appreciate the 2015 wins and immediately look forward to the 2016 divisional initiatives.

- TRAVIS KING, PT, DPT, GCS VICE PRESIDENT, QUALITY ASSURANCE & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Virginia Tidewater

The Virginia Tidewater region has, in a short period of time, achieved the goals of the FOX Mission. This team believes in the strength of people! The FOX brand and mission did not exist in this market until May of this year. This group had a reactive healthcare model in place prior to FOX’s arrival, and instead chose to be proactive warriors against ageism. Clinical excellence is abundant on this team.

Our success in the region is apparent in the pictures and emails I have received from clients. The Virginia Tidewater team believes in each other and selflessly assists our clients and other teammates whenever necessary. Each of these individuals took a leap of faith to join a team that was fresh, new, and would experience growing pains. Bonding together, we are starting to see these efforts pay off in the positive clinical outcomes and the improved quality of life for our clients. I believe in this team and we believe in each other and our clients. We see hope where other healthcare organizations have given up. We are not only changing the lives of our clients, but an entire region.

THANK YOU VAT!

MD1Baltimore, Carroll, Washington, Howard Counties

Our MD1 team exudes the FOX cultural staples of clinical excellence, team spirit, and exchange of abundance. There is a specific client who comes to mind, a resident at Brookdale Pikesville, who was written off by multiple home health therapists in the past, and left with the belief she could never take care of her basic daily needs without help. This client was able to take a shower for the first time in three years because her FOX PT and OT refused to believe in ageism and pushed her to achieve what she never thought possible. This client stated, “They (FOX PT/OT) could teach my previous therapists a thing or two.” Our team spirit and exchange of abundance is a direct result of the clinicians’ passion for improving the lives of older adults. The team goes above and beyond to assist each other in making sure clients receive top notch care despite our day-to-day challenges. Over the past year, our team has overcome a member beating breast cancer, three surgeries, and two maternity leaves by believing in the strength of the clinicians standing next to them and banding together for our clients, creating growth in turbulent times. I am proud to serve as Regional Director of MD1, our team never ceases to amaze me.

COMPLIANCE CORNER

Over the summer, a blog article by Roy Snell, the founder of Heath Care Compliance Association caught my eye. It was titled “How to Avoid Ruining Your Code of Conduct”. Roy wrote, “most codes of conduct are about as inspiring as a restaurant menu.” I suppose that depends on the restaurant, but I get his point and have to agree.

A code of conduct is a message from leadership to the employees of an organization. It should be inspirational. It should guide all employees on expectations of behavior and should clearly define the ethical principles of the organization. Everyone should read it and agree to its standards.

The Office of Inspector General states that the Code of Conduct should function in the same way as a constitution and “all relevant operating policies are derivative of its principles.” After reading that, there is no misunderstanding the OIG’s opinion on the importance of this document.

If I look back to my days as a treating physical therapist, I cannot recall a single memory of receiving a Code of Conduct in prior places of employment. A Code of Conduct should always be memorable and easy to understand. My goal as I look ahead to 2016 is to illuminate the FOX Code of Conduct and bring it to life. I want to show you the passion behind the words. In future newsletters you will be hearing more from me about our Code of Conduct and in return, I would love to hear from you about your ideas and impressions related to our Code of Conduct!

You can find the FOX Code of Conduct on Medbridge in the FOX Documents section, under FOX employees, Compliance folder. As we welcome the new year, remember to do what’s right and stand up for what’s right and everything else will naturally fall into place!
