Liturgical Music Corner by our Music Director, Rebecca Brown March 15, Fourth Sunday of Lent “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” Jn 3:16 John 3:16 is probably the most often quoted scripture verse in all the Bible, at least by Christians. In it is the fullness of the truth of Christianity. This week we celebrate two of the most prominent figures in the history of Christianity: St. Patrick, apostle of Ireland, and St. Joseph, Guardian and Patron of the Universal Church. St. Patrick, an Irish slave, later returned to Ireland as a Bishop to convert the Druids and pagans. He preached throughout Ireland for some 40 years.

Songs for the 9 am Mass: Processional Hymn: Return to God (SS) Psalm 137: Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you! Gospel Acclamation: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory. Preparation of Gifts: I Will Choose Christ (BB # 520) Communion Song: With the Lord There is Mercy (BB # 672) Recessional Song: Save Your People (BB # 131)

Pastor’s Desk:

Greetings, to everyone this weekend we celebrate Laetare Sunday has typically been viewed as a “break” from Lent before we enter the final two weeks of Lent in Passiontide and Holy Week. The priest’s vestments are changed, is usually the rose colored vestment if we have one, the Gloria is chanted again, and after this Sunday, the sanctuary slowly but surely begins to look barren as statues and other images are covered up in the build to Good Friday, in which the normally ornate sanctuary is empty and somber. In one of his dramas, the Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw wrote, “The worst sin toward our fellow creature is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them, that is the essence of inhumanity.” As we venture forward with our Lenten journey the purpose of Lenten season is to work on the things that withhold our relationship with God and with one another. My prayers to you is that in this season of ‘repentance,’ ‘Metonoi,’ may you be open to his spirit of change as to grow as His disciples of God. I would like to thank all of those who have been very kind in driving me around and cooking lunch for me. I am touched by your kindness! Peace and Blessings! Fr. Luis

St. Patrick, the apostle to Ireland, once wrote: "Christ in the heart of every person who thinks of me, Christ in the eye that sees me, Christ in the ear that hears me." He was captured and sold into slavery in Ireland as a teenager. He escaped, but he dreamed Ireland's children were calling to him, and returned to Ireland as a missionary. As Patrick once did, Pope John Paul II. . . challenged the youth of Ireland.

Parish Mailings:

Letters to some of our parishioners have been returned with no forwarding address. Therefore we ask - would you please complete the form at the bottom of the front page of our bulletin and return to us asap. If you'd include your e-mail address, that would also be helpful. This information will remain strictly at our parish office.

St. Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and foster father of Jesus, whose feast day is March 19, is noted for his complete obedience to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He was a husband, father, carpenter, protector, provider and teacher. Silent, believing, prayerful, obedient, upright, holy, surrendered to God. His whole life was an expression of his homage to the divine magnificence. May we be like him. May we learn from him.
