Stewardship: Parishioner’s Answering God’s Call in Formation This week we experience the joy at seeing 100 of our youth participate in Confirmation, the last Sacrament of Initiation.
These students completed their faith formation journey with the loving support of friends, family and parishioners in the
role of instructors and mentors. Letters of encouragement and support were provided by many parishioners for student
reflection at the final retreat held before Confirmation.
Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected].
They may be edited for space consideration.

Financial Stewardship Paul and Barnabas encountered both violent rejec"on and joyful acceptance of the mes-
sage that they preached. We, too, may meet with mixed reac"ons when we use our gi$s in the service of God. But, the Gospel assures us,
the reward for those who follow faithfully is eternal life.

Congratulations to our Confirmation Class of 2016! There were 103 Candidates that were confirmed by Bishop Baker and Bishop Foley. Please continue to pray for the Candidates, Sponsors and their Families as they continue along their path of formation and spiritual growth.
It is with this Sacrament, that we can recall our own Confirmation and what that commitment truly means to us as Catholics. How has Confirmation changed you? This all depends on you. Open yourself to the Holy Spirit. Respond to the grace God is pouring out upon you at this time in your life, and something wonderful will happen. Are you responding to the commitment you made when you were Confirmed?
When the bishop traced the sign of the cross on your forehead and prays, "Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit," something very powerful is happening. At that moment in your life an indelible and permanent mark is placed on your soul. Throughout your life think about how that moment has influenced you in a thousand ways. Are you fully living according to the gifts and fruits of the Spirit? If not, during this Easter Season, think about the ways that you can make a positive change by building upon the gifts and talents that God has given you and the Spirit has bestowed upon you.

Amoris Laetitia - The Joy of Love (Excerpts from Pope Francis’ Encyclical)
“The Joy of Love experienced by families is also the joy of the Church….”
A love that reveals itself and increases:
133. The love of friendship unifies all aspects of marital life and helps family members to grow constantly. This love must be freely and generously expressed in words and acts. In the family, “three words need to be used. I want to repeat this! Three words: ‘Please’, ‘Thank you’, ‘Sorry’. Three essen"al words!” “In our families when we are not overbearing and ask: ‘May I?’; in our families when we are not selfish and can say ‘Thank you!’; and in our families when someone realizes that he or she did something wrong and is able to say ‘Sorry!’, our family experiences peace and joy”. Let us not be s"ngy about using these words, but keep repea"ng them, day a$er day. For “certain silences are oppressive, even at "mes within families, between husband and wives, between parents and children, among siblings”. The right words, spoken at the right "me, daily protect and nurture love. Dialogue:
136. Dialogue is essen"al for experiencing, expressing and fostering love in marriage and family life. Yet it can only be the fruit of a long and demanding appren"ceship. Men and women, young people and adults, communicate differently. They speak different languages and they act in different ways. Our way of asking and responding to ques"ons, the one we use, our "me and any number of other factors condi"on how well we communicate. We need to develop certain a/tudes that express love and encourage authen"c dialogue. 137. Take "me, quality "me. This means being ready to listen pa"ently and a!en"vely to everything the other person wants to say. It requires the self-discipline of not speaking un"l the "me is right. Instead of offering an opinion or advice we need to be sure that we have heard everything the other person has to say. This means cul"va"ng an interior silence that makes it possible to listen to the other person without mental or emo"onal distrac"ons. Do not be rushed, put aside all of your own needs and worries, and make space.

Ministry to the Sick:
Volunteers Needed The Catechism of the Catholic Church states the priority with which Jesus held the care of the sick and dying as a component of his ministry and life: Christ’s compassion toward the sick and his many healings of every kind of infirmity are a resplendent sign that ‘God has visited his people’ (Luke 7:16). If you feel a calling to be a Minister to the sick, now is the "me to answer this call to ac"on. For more informa"on email, [email protected] or call Stacey Fitch 205.822.9125 x 43.
Safety Corner Spring brings flowers, and on occasion, inclement weather. Please review the Code Green policy and the loca"on of our “safe places.” There is a copy of
this on the POP website. Being prepare keeps us safe!
Please remember: NO PARKING on the curbs at the entrance of the church. We appreciate your
understanding that this area needs to be open for emergency vehicles.
Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment (John 19:23-24) The Gospel is the Answer
The Gospel works. It helps everyone who embraces it to increasingly become more perfectly themselves. It celebrates the dignity of the human person, which is a primary truth that is indispensable if we are to understand the world around us. It fosters phenomenal rela"onships and encourages vibrant and orderly community. It promotes right rela"onships between humanity and nature. It just works. In an amazing prac"cal way, the Gospel is the answer to all the deeply personal ques"ons of life and the light that shows us the next step to take in our journey. There is simply no be!er way to live.
