Saturday, November 3rd. Baptism days

Qualifications for godparents are that they are

practicing Catholics, registered in a parish, attending

Mass regularly, baptized, confirmed, Holy Communion

and if married, married in the Catholic Church.

Godparents who live in another parish require a letter

from their pastor recommending them as godparents.

darlo todo, para crecer hacia ese proyecto único e

irrepetible que Dios ha querido para él desde toda la

14. Para ser Santos no es necesario ser obispos,

sacerdotes, religiosas o religiosos. Muchas veces tenemos

la tentación de pensar que la santidad está reservada solo

a quienes tienen la posibilidad de tomar distancia de las

ocupaciones ordinarias, para dedicar mucho tiempo a la

oración. No es así. Todos estamos llamados a ser Santos

viviendo con amor y ofreciendo el propio testimonio en

las ocupaciones de cada día, allí donde cada uno se

viviendo con alegría tu entrega. ¿Estás casado? Sé santo

amando y ocupándote de tu marido o de tu esposa, como

13. This should excite and encourage us to give our all

and to embrace that unique plan that God willed for each

of us from eternity: “Before I formed you in the womb I

knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you”

(Jer 1:5).

14. To be holy does not require being a bishop, a priest or

a religious. We are frequently tempted to think that

holiness is only for those who can withdraw from

ordinary affairs to spend much time in prayer. That is not

the case. We are all called to be holy by living our lives

with love and by bearing witness in everything we do,

wherever we find ourselves. Are you called to the

consecrated life? Be holy by living out your commitment

with joy. Are you married? Be holy by loving and caring

for your husband or wife, as Christ does for the Church.

Do you work for a living? Be holy by laboring with

integrity and skill in the service of your brothers and

sisters. Are you a parent or grandparent? Be holy by

patiently teaching the little ones how to follow Jesus.

Are you in a position of authority? Be holy by working

for the common good and renouncing personal gain.[14]

FAMILY IDEAS

We pray the Penitential Act together at Mass. One form of it begins, “I confess to Almighty God and to

you, my brothers and sisters…” What we do or fail to do affects other people. When we do not reach out

a helping hand or we ignore injustices done to others, we are not living as God created us to live.

Be sure your children understand that God will always forgive us when we ask. We don’t have to

earn forgiveness. God loves us with an unending love and will never turn away from us. God is a

God of mercy and love. We can trust our God always.

Talk with your children about living in peace. We are called to share God’s forgiveness with others.

We can be peacemakers by using our words and actions to bring healing and not hurt to others. Talk

about how to do this together as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER

God of second chances, we know that you call us to live in peace in our family and in our world. We

ask your forgiveness for the times in our lives when we have hurt other people by our words or actions.

Guide us to live always with love for others in our lives and in our hearts. Amen.

FOR FIRST COMMUNION FAMILIES

One way to get ready to celebrate First communion is to forgive people in our lives who have hurt us.

This does not mean that what they did was right, but grudges only hurt the people who hold them. Ask

your child to think of ways to let go of anger, such as listening to music or talking to someone they trust.

of fun and enjoying great food.

cleaning up/getting ready for Sunday classes and those that came

to enjoy a day with family and friends.
