Tom Pierron notes ‘A new issue collector spotted the 47p value error after buying a set from his local East London post office
and comparing the values with marketing information he had received back home. He returned to the post office and was
allowed to check the remaining stock. A further 20 copies were discovered – all that remained from a pane of 25. After
waiting until early 2007 to see if any more copies turned up, the finder sold all but one copy to a dealer. In total 21 of the
25 copies from a pane can be accounted for. It’s possible some or all the remaining four, if used for postage, may turn up in
kiloware. It’s unclear how the pane with incorrect value got into circulation, but the print run must have been done in
advance of a price increase and should should have been destroyed once the 57p value had been approved and printed. It’s
conceivable one or more panes got mixed up with legitimate stock prior to distribution’.
